Warhammer 40K Kill Team: Hivestorm Pre-Orders + New Sets
September 17, 2024 by brennon
Games Workshop will be taking pre-orders for the new edition of Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team this weekend. Hive Storm will see the new Vespid Stingwings taking to the skies once more alongside the forces of the Tempestus Aquilons, battling over Volkus which plays host to a massive, massive gun.

The set comes with two Kill Teams representing the squads mentioned above. You can go with the Xenos forces of the Vespid Stingwings, revamped and updated in plastic. They keep their advanced neutron guns but also a few new special weapons thanks to their T'au overlords.
Vespid Stingwing // Warhammer 40,000
The T'au still keep a close eye on the Vespid when they are on operation. A drone watches their antics and it seems like their leader might be somewhat mind-controlled by the T'au. All in the name of The Greater Good of course.
On the other side of this skirmish, you have the Tempestus Aquilons, the elite drop troopers of the Tempestus Scions.

They are streamlined and ready for insertion, armed to the teeth with their classic hot-shot lasguns, explosives and more. You also get a sentry gun that can watch over them as they fight, keeping an eye on objectives.
The new battlefield that you'll be playing your games on features a trashed urban landscape resplendent with destroyed buildings. If you're a fan of the classic Gothic Ruins from years gone by, this might be the set for you.
Kill Team: Hivestorm Terrain // Warhammer 40,000
All of these bits and bobs come as part of the brand-new edition of Kill Team. The game has been revamped and tweaked so that it's more approachable for newcomers whilst retaining the tactical depth that Kill Team fans have become accustomed to. It's still a more involved skirmish game than your typical games of Warhammer 40,000 where every movement and action that you take benefits from being plotted.
Kill Team: Hivestorm Books // Warhammer 40,000
What's quite nice is that the new edition of Kill Team comes with rules for solo play and cooperative play. This means that you can get your head around the rules by yourself before dragging someone else in. When they do get to the table, instead of beating their Kill Team up, you can work together against a common foe. It's a great step in the right direction for Kill Team and I hope this comes to the likes of Warcry too.
Additional books and accessory packs are also available separately so if you already have a bunch of Kill Teams and terrain, you can just get the bits you need.
Revamped Kill Team Sets
As well as the new edition boxed set, you can also get your hands on revamped Kill Team sets for previous releases.
Blooded Kill Team // Warhammer 40,000
Scout Squad Kill Team // Warhammer 40,000
Nemesis Claw Kill Team // Warhammer 40,000
These Kill Teams are going to be available for you to scoop up and there will also be separate Datacard sets allowing you to update your Kill Team for the new edition. That means that if you already have the miniatures, just get your hands on the cards.
Mandrakes Kill Team // Warhammer 40,000
Kommandos Kill Team // Warhammer 40,000
Hernkyn Yaegirs Kill Team // Warhammer 40,000
All of these miniatures also have rules for use in Warhammer 40,000 so if you're looking to use them for your armies, you've got the option.
Corsair Voidscarred Kill Team // Warhammer 40,000
Brood Brothers Kill Team // Warhammer 40,000
Could you be tempted to dive into the new edition of Kill Team? Streamlining the game experience has made this game a little more enticing to me. I could be very tempted to dive in when the Aeldari get another Kill Team. I am crossing my fingers for Swooping Hawks. I think I could see myself enjoying the cooperative mode a lot as well.

Looks like a great set, will probably order it from a discount seller online here in Canada to save some money.
Have GW overcome their pre order issues yet as I might get this. As long as I don’t have to wait poised like a praying mantis over my keyboard to snag a copy between 10:00 and 10:01.
No idea. I just pre-order from a Canadian shop while casually waking up, with a healthy 15% off. Pretty rare that I can’t find what I want; the “online store only” items are almost always available at the place I order from. Just the Forgeworld kits remain elusive.
I have no idea how a company as large as GW have managed to screw up their supply chain so badly. Sheer incompetence!
I’d argue that it is not incompetence, but planned evil.
They make just enough and focus on the FOMO to ensure it will sell fast enough that folk will ignore the high cost involved.
There’s no way they could not make all of this available in a reasonable time frame if they wanted to.
Sorry, hard pass. I might have been tempted had GW included the cards in the figure box alongside the tokens, thereby justifying partially the price increases, but by having the cards selling for about a buck a card, just nixes the deal. And why are the figures such varied prices? I guess it’s to take advantage of 40k players sucking up the desired new figs.
Are the (updated) datacards a bonus or are they needed because the stats aren’t in the new rulebook ?
Then again, this is GW.
I think we all know the answer to that one…
The solo rules would make this tempting, but having to buy datacards just to get the stats for my kommandos without knowing if the imperial guard that was in the same starterbox will ever get them is a deal breaker for me.
Got my pre-order in for Hivestorm with my usual FOGS (Friendly Online Gaming Store), and was weak so also ordered a spare set of the Aquilons from a bitz site. Gods I have so much Guard right now…..
Bonjour, point de besoin d’acheter les cartes , les règles de chaque faction son sur l’appli killteam, cordialement.
