Warhammer 40K Chapter Approved, Tabletops & Objectives On The Way
July 7, 2020 by brennon
Games Workshop has been talking about more of the options coming out to support the release of Warhammer 40,000 9th Edition in a few weeks. The big first thing that you'll need is a gamer is the new set of Chapter Approved books.
Chapter Approved // Warhammer 40K

The most important of these two books is the Munitorum Field Manual which has points values for all of the armies currently available in Warhammer 40,000. If you're planning to get playing sooner rather than later then this is a good resource. You've also got the Grand Tournament 2020 Mission Pack which is helpful for those wanting to dive in and play in a more competitive sense.
Warhammer 40K Tabletops & Objectives
Another of the new options that is available for those diving into Warhammer 40,000 is this Battlezone: Manufactorum Battlefield set.
Battlezone Manufactorum // Warhammer 40K
This set is sized for you to play quick Combat Patrol and Incursion games but if you pick up two of these sets you'll end up with a play area big enough for full Strike Force games. Once you drop a bit of terrain on top of this you'll have some suitably grimdark tabletops.
You will also be able to pick up a new set of Battlefield Objectives which you can fight over. These are both Imperial and Necron related so they would be good for use alongside the new Space Marine and Necron armies from Indomitus.
Battlefield Objectives // Warhammer 40K
I do particularly like the look of the Necron which has been suspended in an energy matrix. Every time that someone captures something ancient and tries to study it, it always goes well right? You could set up some fun battles with that in mind, perhaps aboard an Imperial ship rather than on a traditional battlefield.
Also previewed as part of a recent preview was the introduction of new paints, game aids, a journal for mapping your games out and Open War Cards which will help randomise your missions on the tabletop.
Are you tempted to dive in and check out what's new when Warhammer 40,000 9th Edition hits?

For a “grim dark” universe these are really colourful … sort of.
I think 40k is fighting with itself a bit right now… when it comes to being grim dark or not. In many places you can still see those familiar grim dark, clock striking midnight themes. And at other times its just another Sci-fi game like any other and things are just not that grim or dark at all.
I really like the objectives set – they’d work really with a lot of Steampunk style games (Wolsung etc) too
So they are already releasing Chapter Approved for 9th edition. One would think that that’s too soon.
???
You need the points for the models. They are only in Chapter Approved.
So, you have to release it with the rest of the launch.
You cant make players “wait” for the points cost of thier models.
Or you can make for free download in your web.
But if the people buy another book Cachinnggg
True.
But honestly, you only make bank if you player base is willing to pay up… and lets face it 40k players are always more then willing to pay.
So why not make money on your rules. I mean who is really to blame, the company that over charges on thier pricing or the players that jump to pay those prices.
Complete true.
They said this years edition of CA will just be the revised points costs to bring all codices to 9th, and the Tournament Mission Pack. So we’ll have to wait until next year for a the same sort of content previous CA’s have included.
The objectives markers look good I’ll have to see the book’s first.
I was going to buy Indomitus, but I think I talked myself out of it.
Don’t really need another two armies for a game I probably won’t get chance to play for a year and I already have a Drukhari army.
And from what I read, the rule book is mostly snaps of minis painted by people with a lot more skill than I possess… with a token gesture of rules.
So I’ll save the money until something more interesting comes out.
I wish they would have gone with way way more artwork myself.
But its not just a rulebook, its a “history/background” book for new players… and like any book its also a model catalog to sell miniatures.
So there you go.
Yep. I was initially interested but the more I have seen the less interested I am. Maybe when the real starter box is released I will take another look, and by then people will have played the new skirmish mode and we will know if it is fun and balanced.
Yeah… when even GW don’t call this a starter box for beginners you should beware.
If it had the rules pamphlet, objective tokens, measuring tokens and blast template I would be more interested, but Indomitus is looking more like it’s designed to squeeze money out of the hardcore 40k players.
Naming the box after a genetically engineered dinosaur that went on a rampage in one of the more recent Jurassic Park movies may have been a bad idea.
Indomitus does have a complete set of the rules. The hardcover has all of the rules and missions, missing only the point costs because that changes all the time now.
The objective markers are just anything 40mm in size, no big loss. Also they do not use blast templates anymore, if I understand correctly.
9th is the first time Ive considered playing 40k, in a long time. Just nots sure I want to start down that path.
I’m pretty sure 8th ed did away with the blast and flamer templates. 9th isn’t bringing them back.
So, they changed the mat sizes again and also made them so they are not standard with anything you can purchase from the standard mat making companies?
Of course they did. Why would that surprise anyone, GW hates 3rd party products with a passion. They go out of thier way to make sure everything is GW produced.
Presumably you can play on any size battlefield anyway. Only tournaments will require specific sizes and those that run the tournaments will have to deal with that purchase.
Looking more and more like it’s a good call by me to step back from Indomitus.
They adjusted the minimum to match the Kill Team boards. You can still play games on the traditional table sizes but now you can use the Kill Team boards for legal 40K games too. pretty sure a lot of third party companies were already doing mats and tiles for KT so it won’t be a huge adjustment for them. The stuff GW will be releasing (like the set above) will be usable for large KT game or small 40k games so I’m quite happy to get more usage out of them.
