Fight Bigger Battles As Warhammer 40k Apocalypse Announced
March 28, 2019 by brennon
Following up the massive amount of Age Of Sigmar news from AdeptiCon we also had the announcement that Apocalypse, a new game for Warhammer 40,000 is also dropping in the near future from Games Workshop.
Bigger is better right? Well, this new system is looking to introduce insanely large mass battles into the mix for Warhammer 40,000. And yes, as they mentioned in their preview...those are movement trays in the video.
The scale of these battles is so huge that it doesn't actually come down to units but entire formations. Rules have been tweaked to make it more playable at this scale I would imagine but I'm still not entirely sure about this one.
They are looking to try and play out all of those battles from the artwork and the lore that look far too immense in the same time it takes you to play a standard game of Warhammer 40,000. This will be quite the feat and I'm interested to see how they do it.
Event Exclusive Librarian
As a side note, the team also revealed a new Event Exclusive miniature that isn't a Primaris Lieutenant. Check out this Librarian...
He will be available at events next year so watch this space. It's good that they've finally decided that enough Primaris Space Marines have been promoted to positions of power!
Are you tempted by massive battles in Apocalypse?

Nope. Give me proper Epic 40.000 like back in the day and I *might* consider it…. movement trays in 28mm… Naaaaaaa
not even the genius 3D movement trays shown on the XLBS a couple of months ago? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Grip-Strong-Reusable-sent-ltd/dp/B01H2T4QRE/ref=sr_1_1?qid=1553770427&refinements=p_n_feature_two_browse-bin%3A3327593031&s=kitchen&sr=1-1
Word! Plus only for troops as I can tell from the video…. I WANT TITANS ON TRAYS!
How about 28mm land trains? Sounds pretty sweet to me.
@sundancer I agree.
A single vehicle at this scale is kind of oversized already.
thought it was going to be 6mm/15mm
The world has gone upside down. 40k now has movement trays, but fantasy doesn’t!
I wonder if the movement trays are just to make it easier to move stuff, or if there won’t be individual model removal and instead you’ll remove a tray at a time (not sure how many minis each holds, but I think five would make most sense).
I think it’ll be for ease of movement and removing entire units in one go – it does seem to be MUCH bigger in scale.
If it’s removing units in one go then basically this is just an excuse to buy ridiculous numbers of miniatures, because if one hit takes out ten minis, you might as well just field 1/10th of the size army and play normally… at a fraction of the cost… not to mention the painting required.
To play with massive armies I’d rather shift to a smaller scale of mini (which I can’t be bothered to paint as they’re too small, so that means more gaming and less painting)
Just Like when a Titan fire’s then Ben?
7th Ed Apoc or go home for me 😉
How can Apocalypse to be back when it has never left. Even before this people have been playing games of Apocalypse in 8th edition.
Its mega epic many pounds were sacrificed bring this game/information the marine looks good.
The ‘fun’ in 40k has always been inversely proportional to the size of the game.
D12’s hey? I wonder what they are used for.
Background story for your army or battle ?
’cause that’s what the new dice in Kill team were used for 😉
I’m quite excited by this new Apocalypse because it sounds like a completely new ruleset designed from the ground up to play big games. I quite like normal 40k, but even a standard size game takes me an age to play. It just wouldn’t be fun for me to use 8th ed to play giant battles. But with a brand new system hopefully they can try some innovative stuff, without all the standard 40k baggage. Interesting to see d12s and what look like order tokens in the photos. If it’s good, I might just use the system to play regular… Read more »
