Keeping up the trailer content for you this morning, we also got a look at some gameplay from the upcoming Fat Shark video game Warhammer 40,000: Darktide. Check it out below...

In a rather rockin' (oh dear, I sound like an out of touch adult now) trailer, we got to see a team of four heroes sticking it to the servants of Chaos in the depths of Atoma Prime which has been overrun. In true Fat Shark fashion, you're going to be getting stuck in with melee weapons and a now wider suite of ranged options to take down your foes.
The core of the gameplay does seem to have shades of Vermintide about it, especially when it comes to the melee combat but that's no bad thing. I have really enjoyed playing Vermintide II recently and if Fat Shark can refine that gameplay loop even more whilst creating satisfying gunplay then I am all for it.
From my semi-educated musing, it seems like we're getting an Ogryn to play as (duh) plus an Imperial Guard/Astra Militarum Captain and a Kasrkin or Stormtrooper. The final addition is an Imperial Priest I would guess, especially considering the massive hammer and constant chanting about The Emperor.
I am very interested to see how this all turns out and I can see it being a fun hop into the grimdark future with friends.
Are you a fan of Vermintide and tempted to give this a go?

Nice looks great with a Doom twist to the confined fighting in corridors.
Mind explode…. Ogrryyyyyyns!!!!
Mmmmmmm, gribbly. I dig it.
There should be a LIKE button on each news post. I’d hit the button for this one really hard 🙂
ALRIGHT!! Now THIS is how you do a down-and-dirty Warhammer 40k game! While I do love Deathwing and 40k: Space Marine, this is a very welcome change.
I hope the plot will be easy to understand.
Did I see a lasgun with recoil ?
Do they even know what a lasgun is ?
’cause it looks and sounds like a rifle …
I’m not a fan of the Left4Dead/Verimintide style co-op multiplayer games.
I’d rather have a good solid solo adventure/action game.
(oh … and a guardsman surviving anything without dozens of his mates dieing is a bloody miracle ;))
The lasgun sounds and functions about right; even in the DoW games they had “recoil” in their animations. Now there is also an autogun available that sounds and works like a proper rifle complete with recoil.
Does it really? Cause it seems to be really dumb looking. What exactly is causing a glorified laser pointer to recoil?
Also, who is the hammer chick suppose to be?
Maybe she’s a lost rebel pilot from Star Wars: Andor? Or could that be an orange penal jumpsuit, sans bomb collar?
She’s either a penal trooper or an Inquistor; I’m leaning towards the latter, given her power hammer and voice lines in the trailer.
According to the fluff, there’s a couple explanations: 1) The lasgun was originally designed as a training rifle for a solid-ammunition weapon, and came with pistons in the stock to simulate small-arms fire. When it was converted to a lasgun, the pistons were not removed and the result was simulated recoil. 2) Poor magnetic shielding in the lasgun’s casing can cause the weapon to shake when its power pack is discharged; not proper “recoil”, but it still causes the gun to move. So yes,it may look ridiculous, but it’s been covered before. This is also a fictional setting where real-life… Read more »
I can understand the sound, because no one really knows how a laser is supposed to ‘sound’.
The animations in DoW were so tiny that the ‘recoil’ could have been explained as a reloading animation or something.
This is a first/third person animation so detail starts to matter.
I don’t know if the fluff has any explanation for the recoil, because that’s the source I don’t know.
I think it is just lazy/cheap design, because they simply replaced the bullets from the ‘traditional’ autogun with lasers to make it a lasgun …
Ear me ROAR!!!
This looks tempting!
4th character reminds me of a sister of battle, rather than an inquisitor, not knowing the background that had these four be together, an inquisitor and henchmen makes sense
She could be an inquisitor (or inquisitor’s acolyte). Her robes and hammer may also indicate that she is a priestess.
The other three are all guardsmen (one happens to be an Ogryn). So whether she’s part of the inquisition or the ecclesiarchy, she’s very likely the leader of the group.
I haven’t played Vermintide. Are the character classes just going to be skins with different dialogue options (like in Left 4 Dead) or are they going to be essentially very different form one another (like Borderlands)?
I’m expecting the latter with an Ogryn in the gang.
That looks great, might get it when it comes out. Kind of sad there isn’t any mechanicus in there though, a Skitarii ranger or vanguard would have been a great choice.
