The War On Vigilus Expands & More Revealed For Warhammer 40,000
November 26, 2018 by brennon
There was lots to get our heads around this weekend from Games Workshop as they talked about how things are going to be expanding with the War On Vigilus, the epicentre of battle and strife in the world of Warhammer 40,000. BUT, before all that we have the most important news, the Noise Marines are back!
Now that is a blast from the past. This Noise Marine has been sculpted using modern techniques but is based on Jes Goodwin’s original sketches. You might notice that as well as the wild colours on the miniature they've also thrown in that Goblin Green base to help power through that nostalgia.
Games Workshop is very good at the old marketing these days and whilst I don't think I could give this miniature the justice it deserves I'd still love to have one in my collection for the sheer wow factor.
The Battle For Vigilus
Things are hotting up on Vigilus which has been the place where many of the major conflicts during this new edition of Warhammer 40,000 have been taking place. There is a twist here however as an old character comes back to the tabletop to lead the Ultramarines in their latest endeavours.
This new version of Marneus Calgar comes armed with the Gauntlets Of Ultramar as you can see but he is also wearing new Primaris armour, reforged by his lord to fight on the battlefield at his side.
I'm sure he was very happy to have a Primarch to fall back on when it came to matters of command!
Things are getting interesting down on the planet Vigilus though...
...and that means we're going to be seeing a new campaign book, Vigilus Defiant.
This new book will help tell new stories from the doomed planet with the Imperium holding out against Xenos threats from all sides. It will allow you to play more campaigns and scenarios and focuses in on one particular threat from the Black Legion itself led by Haarken Worldclaimer.
He has sent forth a proclamation that the world of Vigilus will fall to him and the Warmaster within eighty days. This might be the biggest challenge the Imperium has faced so far and it will be interesting to see what he has up his sleeve when it comes to taking Vigilus.
Additionally, you'll also be able to play out some new scenarios set amongst the ruins of this world with the Urban Conquest supplement too.
So, if you're looking for more rules and scenarios for getting stuck into urban warfare this book should lead you down the right path. With the Black Legion coming you'd have thought that other factions might give it a rest but no, the Genestealer Cult is also on the way!
Cultists Hit The Road
The Genestealer Cult are getting themselves some cool new miniatures that offer them new options when it comes to Fast Attack. Leading the way we have some Quad Bikers...
...as well as some actual Bikers too. The Genestealer Cult is always good at working with the equipment they can snap up from facilities on the planets they take over and you could imagine a lot of this popping up at mines and factories as well as simply being owned by the populace.
These fellows are very much in the interesting Mad Max vein and it would be neat to see this expanded. The Genestealer Cult are not a force that I would have thought would really expand beyond a skirmishing army but their time seems to have come.
They have some fascinating miniatures as part of their collection and the range is wonderful for those who like their painting.
Also, much like with the Orks I would suggest that the Genestealer Cult are a great army for those who like to get stuck into their bitz bashing as they are scroungers!
Mighty Titans
We've seen plenty of little Titans over the past few months but Forge World wanted to assure us that there is another big one coming. This is the towering Warbringer Nemesis Titan.
Yep, as you can see it is huge. It's a gun platform, walker and fortress all at the same time and it is packed with lots of detail.
I think there is quite a lot here for people to get stuck into if you're a Warhammer 40,000 fan. I would love to hear what forces you're playing as right now and I am very tempted to pick up a force for myself even though I don't think I'd ever really get the time to play the game anymore.
It's an exciting time to love your grimdark Sci-Fi games.
What do you think?

40K Wild Stallion’s back on tour ? The new Titan look’s bigger that the other warlord ? Not just with the gun.I think the arbiters should be in a city Battle to be right ?
Oh man that noise marine does need to go straight into my collection, what a fantastic update on an old mini My favourite stuff though is the Genestealer cult, those quad bikes look great and the bikes even better but I don’t know much about how they play as I don’t do any 40k at all, it would be a close run between these guys and Orks for me Kudos to GW for remembering the old whilst I in something new, only a couple of years ago people were asking for plastic sisters of battle, squats, noise marines and Slaanesh… Read more »
That noise marine has always been at the top of my list of Worst GW Ideas, Ever. Of course I have one. Even paid money for it. The GSC strategist will be a must buy, if only to act as a Kill Team target. Never been much for bikes and quads unless they are wheelless anti-grav devices. Remind me of WWI troops riding bicycles to the front.
Looks like I can save up for Blackstone Fortress expansions.
One thing you forgot to mention is that the map that that Genestealer Cultist is looking at on the hololith table is one of Warhammer World. 😉
Aye I thought I’d see if anyone noticed – but that is a cool touch 😀
It’s also has a nod to a Bob Olley concept piece done for Rogue Trader… though that was a Magos at a holotable.
We need ‘eavy Metal Orks! WE NEEDZ DEM!
I absolutely love that Noise Marine. He is so metal. Haarken Worldclaimer is also among my favorites from those. Others are also really good and interesting enough that Genestealer Cult leader is looking at hologram of Warhammer World.
I have 2 issues with Calgar:
1 – It’s lazy writing on GWs side, instead of creating new characters the existing ones just “suddenly become primaris”
2 – It’s another step towards killing off the old non-primaris marines.
That 2nd issue is what I hate most about this. Making established character like Calgar into Primaris pretty much opens that option for GW even more. It is really sign that GW doesn’t care about us old fans that have used our they and money to they products.
At least the Noise Marine is not Primaris.
Ok I have two issues with your comment (sorry not meaning to sound passive agressive just offering my opinion) 1- why is it lazy writing and not just writing? Marneus Calgar has ben around for 30 years, all the way through 40k so it makes sense to me that they would want to keep him going as he is a piece of living history within the game. And I sure hope we get new Primaris versions of other Marine characters as I think they’ll look cool. But just because characters are being carried over doesn’t mean new ones can’t be… Read more »
Thing is if they phase out those standard Marines and all models that those have then they will most likely also remove rules for those as well meaning that those can’t be used in what ever is current edition (if not 9th then maybe 10th) at that point. So that means that those are pretty much useless unless you use them as Primaris Marines but then they don’t get those options since least currently Primaris Marines are all about using single weapons so that there are no upgrade options and all squads are same. As some one who has collected… Read more »
OK, to answer your points As you say, he’s been around for 30yrs. And yet after 30yrs, they can’t create a new character leaving the existing one as is, they have to buff him up into the latest product line instead of coming up with a new character. 8th Ed advanced the timeline, so why instead of leaving Calgar as was and creating a new hero from the new timeline, did they just recycle an existing one? That’s why I think it’s lazy. I have no issue with new sculpts to replace existing kits, e.g. new berserkers, new SM Tac… Read more »
I love the Spinal Tap nod in the video for the Noise Marine . Not a fan of GW , but I’m getting me one of those
If anyone knows me I am in no way a 40k fan…in anyway shape or form… however the Noise Marine is a model that I may just get to paint.

The noise marine is blast, the rest also looks cool but the Slaanesh Steel Panther is a beast 😀
I want about 50 noise marines!
One of my favourite older GW models, reimagined!
