Looking forward to seeing this one, John. I’ve got a ton of spartan scenic sets that I’ve assembled but not painted yet so I’m definitely keen on a way to do it somewhat efficiently. I learned at GenCon a couple of years ago that enamel based primer works best on MDF (thank you Corvus Belli build team!) so I’m interested to see how you approach it. =)
As I am in the midst of trying to complete several MDF pieces of my own I am very much looking forward to this series.
I’m almost certain I’ve seen that vault door before somewhere, I just don’t know where. If I find out I’ll let you know.
One issue I know with MDF terrain is that the material soaks up paint and thus makes it difficult to paint. I’m curious to see how you tackle this issue.
good wood primer first to seal it, although personally I use a brush on shellac wood sealant first
It’s sound very Tolkien
One primer to seal it all
PVA to bind it
and if building you fail
bin it.
XD

Terrain looks quite nice. Working with an airbrush may not make sense. Use a pigment high coating. So you don’t have to basecoat twice. Base colour with workshop paint and then maybe some airbrush highlights + drybrushing the card edges + adding details.
I remember reading about Spacehulk when I first caught glimpses of it and wanting to do something like this.
Future me would also think about adding led lights to this thing once completed.
Just imagine the effect with the desert bootcamp lights and a scary critter horror soundtrack (or maybe just the Aliens movie sound effects ?) in the background.
Looks like an interesting and fun project. Very much looking forward to it.
This is a conspiracy! in 2 days my backstager trial ends and *NOW* you start a hulk?! You monsters!
VERY interested in this and also where the terrain is from. I am just seeing a vault for Fallout Wasteland Warfare. If you were able to Nurgle it up a bit it would make a great infected Space Hulk but also a very good representation of Vault 22 from New Vegas. Never hurts to have a dual purpose 😉
ooh nice, looking forward to this one 🙂
looks like it was made by bplaser minature scencery
This is going to be big.
lets do this!
With Space Hulk I am generally of two minds when it comes to the table. A great table full of terrain for Space Hulk is amazing. But most of the time the corridors and what not just look so random why would a ship have such a design? I know it can be done it just that I have a really hard time at it my self.
interesting challenge, been busy of late so i haven’t been on Beastofwar a whole lot. this looks like it’s going to be a blast.
So I checked out the site for the company you guys got the MDF bits and bobs off but couldn’t find the individual bits, seems they come as a big vault?
Lookin’ forward to this one Dude. I love me some Space Hulk!
oooohhhhhhh yeas – another John Vlog and ITS SPACE HULK!!! Think I might actually love you @johnlyons 😉
