Grim Skull Unboxing: Greater Good Alternative Models
October 4, 2016 by dignity
Looking at some alternatives for our Greater Good armies we unbox some of the characters from Grim Skull.
Each of the miniatures has plenty of character packed into the sculpt and would be a suitable alternative for those of you wanting to expand upon your grim dark collection.
What do you think?

Definitely need Big Shas for my Tau Human alliance. They’re probly where he got his cigar, and I’m sure they can fix him up with a bionic powerfist… 🙂
Niiiice.
Is it possible we may see you painting these up :0
Cool figures. They are so cool that I believe that a certain CEO in Nottingham is calling his legal team at the moment 🙂
Do like big shas, how tall is the mini (foot to top of the head?)
If I had never heard of Tau I would say these are awesome miniatures. However I don’t feel they are well suited to the source material that inspired them. As such I don’t feel they could be used as alternative models. They might only serve a purpose in a weird mirror universe setup. Or as stand-alone display models like John said.
They are awesome 🙂
Imagine playing Assassinorum: Execution Force with a four-man Tao team from this range? – or Deathwatch Overkill with an entire Tao Elite squad…
A pity such obvious talent cannot be used on something original.
Reminds me of Kabuki and their Primarch rip-offs.
does it break the 40k narrative – should Tao be that Bad Ass?
Farsight is pretty badass, he is in a mech but still pretty bad ass.
I see Big shas as the tau equivalent of John Matrix in Commando….
a nice figure.
I could see him saying I love it when a plan comes together like Hannibal
Love to see what @elromanozo could do with these
Grim Skull?…never heard of ’em. I’m sure these models are from Wargames Exclusive though.
Oh right you’ve got it under the ‘Tags’, also check out the Imperial Cars on the site! They are so AWESOME!!!

From what I understand Grimm Skull are the designers\sculptors of these minis and Waregames Exclusive are the manufacturer\distributor.
wherever you stand on the issue you got to admit big shas and his cigar are cool.
my favourite part was definitely Justin skilfully describing what he liked about the pinup sculpt, well played sir.
they should put your skills to the test by giving you a kingdom death pinup in a bikini mate to see if you can talk your way round that:)
First off that joke, high octane? Come on that big no no which would make it a nos… oh dear ha ha. I am glad that you guys worked with them, and gave us a bit of a review because I see a lot of these sorts of companies and I think about using them some of the time and I am like no… I am not going to risk it. I would actually like to see more of these with different companies as it allows you to yeah I want to give this company a go or no that… Read more »
@caladors as far as I can see
Grim skull design the minis they refer to wargames exclusive as their official re-seller.
So grimskull makes them and Wargames exclusive sells them (haven’t checked if they sell other designers minis minis as well)
Thank you @joerugby for clearing it up 😀
@artyengineer that sounds frinkin tops! In the hobby forum I am assuming? When you do I will take a look 😀
@caladors im actually compiling a list of ALL alternate and conversion part manufactures and what their specialities/niche products are. Hope to post it up in the next few days.
Yep, those models of really nice and i have picked up a few models of that line (as heroes/leaders mostly). Casting is fantastic.
Considering that I now own a squad of suitable models thanks to a recent purchase of the Kill Team box, I can absolutely see me picking up one of the three to use as a leader.
Those models look superb, @dignity are you going to unbox the ‘undead cyborg’ defo not necron models?
These look pretty cool. Tempting. Very tempting.
An unboxing of the vehicles would be great – I ordered the Limo, but I am worried that it might be a bit small 🙁
what was that old GW game with the Mad Max style racing? – BOW should do a 40k Wacky Races in the spirit of Bloodbowl 🙂

Always like the look of the greater good range, I never get any as I mostly play 40k in GW stores which wouldn’t allow them to be used, I also agree the style probably doesn’t really fit the fluff. But they are all characterful characters which is something that I find most GW 40k character models significantly lack.
Possibly if I ever clear my painting backlog then I would consider getting one or two to paint up.
Those all look great. Not sure why anybody has a problem or a failure of imagination about them.
They’re undoubtedly well sculpted and cast – details look great, very characterful… But they’re not very Tau – don’t have a problem with anyone else picking them up and using them, but they’re not for me
