Games Workshop are going to be taking pre-orders for the first Codex of Warhammer 40,000 10th Edition this weekend. The Tyranids are continuing their invasion of the galaxy with a new Codex, updated Datasheet Cards and of course, plenty of new miniatures for their 28mm Grimdark Sci-Fi wargame.

As mentioned above, this Codex replaces the Index Rules that are currently available for the Tyranids. This means six new Detachments with their own unique abilities, bonus Enhancements and Stratagems plus new Crusade content which allows you to take the narrative route with your space bugs. If you're tempted to snap this up, there is also a Limited Edition version of the Codex which features unique cover art and lots of other plush upgrades.

It hasn't been specifically mentioned what is going to happen when it comes to the Codex and the Warhammer 40,000 App but I would assume, much like with 9th Edition, that you'll get a code in the book which allows you to unlock the army in both the reference section and battle forge of the app.

Additionally, if you're a person who likes having rules in front of them in a tangible form, you can also get your hands on a new set of Datasheet Cards which cover all of the Tyranid units currently available in 10th Edition.

The idea is that these can be used alongside the double-page spread Detachment rules presented in the Codex to mean that you don't have to do a lot of flicking back and forth. Again, this means that the Index Cards already out there are superseded by these. I suppose at least I have it good in that I won't need to replace my Aeldari and Chaos Demon ones for at least a year.

For the Tyranid player who has everything, you can also check out a set of Tyranid Dice from Games Workshop which are presented in lovely Leviathan purple.

Additionally, if you're looking to get started with the Tyranids then you can also get your hands on the new Combat Patrol set for the Tyranids. This matches with the existing Combat Patrol sets that are available for you to play against and is obviously good if you didn't want to pick up the Leviathan boxed set.

This set comes with a Winged Tyranid Prime, twenty Termagants, five Barbgaunts, three Von Ryan's Leapers and then a Psychophage to cap things off. You also get two Ripper Swarms which snake across the battlefield looking to nibble at kneecaps.

The New Tyranid Miniatures!

These new miniatures were all shown off as part of a previous Warhammer Preview so there's nothing massively new here but they are offering up more core and elite choices for your Tyranid army.

The first of the kits you're going to be able to pick up is for the Norn Emissary/Norn Assimilator. This gives you two variants of the somewhat brutish assassins within the Tyranid swarm. Don't let their size fool you though as they are agile and eager to get stuck in, bringing their targets down and killing everything else in the way.

Another of the big kits that allows you to make two different miniatures is the one for the Biovore/Pyrovore.

This gives you some serious artillery to use as part of your Hive Fleet. Use the Biovore to rain down Spore Mines on the battlefield and cover your enemies in horrible shards of bone and toxic ooze OR just spew forth burning liquid on those nearby and melt them into puddles. Either way, you're going to make a delicious soup out of your opponents.

If you prefer the stealthy approach, you can pick up a new variant of the Lictor with the Neurolictor and the classic backstabbing hunter itself.

If you're looking for an even more powerful melee threat then you can also pick up the new miniature for Deathleaper. Who wouldn't want a stylish killer in a fetching skin cloak?

Sneak this killer into your army and make sure that you've got a Sly Marbo for him to battle against I say. I would love to see Games Workshop update the classic Catachans and put together an awesome battle between the musclebound soldiers of the Astra Militarum and the sneaky Tyranids, skulking through sweltering hot jungles.

The Swarm Grows - More Rank & File Miniatures

All the bases are being covered with this new set of pre-orders from Games Workshop. You can get the new miniatures for the Termagants and the Hormagaunts...

...each with their own updated sculpts which replace some very long serving plastic kits from Games Workshop. It's nice to see that the core of the Tyranid force got an overhaul alongside the addition of new miniatures. The Necrons got this treatment back in 9th Edition and now it's the turn of the lucky Tyranids.

Last but not least, we also have updates for the Genestealers. They are another kit that had been doing a lot of heavy lifting over numerous years. The plastic kit has now been updated with more dynamic poses and options to give them all the Ymgarl head (definitely do that!).

That is quite a lot of new releases coming up for the Tyranids. All of these pre-orders are going to be available to snap up from this Saturday over at Store.OnTableTop if you want to enhance your Tyranid army or just get started.

Make sure to let us know down below what you make of the revamp for the Tyranids!
