A New Type Of Dreadnought From Forge World?
December 29, 2014 by brennon
Forge World are back to the grindstone after the Christmas period and that means new surprises in plastic and resin form. With that in mind one of them managed to snap this preview of a new type of Dreadnought coming your way...
As you can see it's seemingly got a wider top half and that protruding armour at the front looks very strange indeed. It looks like more of a sentient turret than it does a dreadnought although we're yet to see the legs of course.
I must admit I don't know what on earth this could be within the Forge World/Warhammer 40,000 range but maybe some of you lore followers will have an inkling as to what it is?
Let me know!

Looking good.
Looks interesting.. it reminds me the Dreadnought which is in the original Space Marine boardgame. 🙂
Sorry I meant Space Crusade not Space Marine.. 🙂
I thought the exact same thing. Looks a lot like the chaos dread from space crusade.
Hmmm, I’m not sold on this one so far, and that protruding part, just looks like it would be an easy target, but shall wait and see for the whole image!.
Looks like it is protruding due to there being twin heavy bolters build into the body. Looks interesting.
that not a dreadnought that a madcat ! with helmet
It looks like a mini knight more so than a dread.
I’m reserving judgement until I see the complete model, but so far I can’t see it replacing the contemptor as my favourite dreadnought.
have to agree cover the helmet and you’ve got a madcat i wonder if the legs are straight or chicken legs
Is it not the Lucifer Class Dreadnought which would mean 30/40k chaos only, also do I spy twin heavy bolters under the protruding chest plate.
Not sure on this one, I’ll hold judgement till I see the full pick.
Had a word with Alan Bligh at warhammerfest, he confirmed that a new class of dreadnought was going to be released that was heavier than a contemptor.
Yep, definitely looks like something out of the BattleTech universe. Catalyst (or whoever holds the rights now) should sue GW for this.
its definatly a madcat in a many ways
Didn’t Bandi do that to Fasa back in the day ??? many mechs looked like Gundam and or Robotech clones.
FASA did use lot of designs from several animes like Macross, Dougram and Crusher Joe in they early mechs but were forced to drop those because of lawsuit from Harmony Gold that held rights to three animes that were used to make Robotech. Those designs become unseen and later those got reseen versions that were different enough.
That was it, Harmony Gold lol not Bandai, I remember lots of ruckus at one point over the Warhammer, Marauder and Spartan I think it was lol. Used to love looking at Duane Loose’s artwork for Mechs and AFV in the old Technical readouts. http://dloosedesign.com/portfolio/mechs/
perhaps even a Jenner
Interesting stuff. It seems to be armed with two twin-linked, belt-fed autocannons and some kind of shoulder mounted multiple missile launcher, so probably a fire support varient, though without knowing what weapons options it may have it is impossible to say if it is a dedicated lomg range platform or also has shorter ranged builds. I can see the resemblence to Battle Tech designs, but as pointed out upthread the principle influence seems to come from the old Space Crusade Dreadnought design from way back in the day. It is certainly worth watching, though it is premature to make any… Read more »
Looks like an oldshool nod do the yee olde Warhammer Space Crusade game! … as I’m sure many have picked up on.
Sweet.
Two initial thoughts:
1) Bosom
2) Big head in a tiny boat
Hmm… Forgeworld have put out enough good stuff that I think it’s only fair to reserve judgement, but I’m not liking the look of this so far. With those small eyes and the limited room for movement, I can’t see that dreadnought seeing much of anything over the ‘chest’ sticking out in front of it. I don’t know much about the Battletech universe, although it looks similar to pictures I’ve seen of mechs from the game. Unlike others I don’t see much (any) resemblance to the Space Crusade dreadnought. That one was shaped like the Ed209, narrow and with weapons… Read more »
Possibly some heavyweight Mortis type dreadnought?
Battletech/40K crossover. Now I can start my Jade Falcon Space Marine clan.
