Three New Boarding Patrol Boxed Sets Coming To Warhammer 40K
February 9, 2023 by brennon
Three new Boarding Patrol sets have been previewed by Games Workshop for use in the new game mode for Warhammer 40,000, Boarding Actions. The close-quarters combat of this new game mode can now be enjoyed by new forces for the Tyranids, Necrons and the Grey Knights.

Each of the Boarding Patrols has been made to match the mustering rules required for playing out Boarding Actions. That means around 500 points worth of troops that can be picked from HQ, Troop and Elite choices in your collection. The first of these we'll take a look at is for the Necrons.
Necron Boarding Patrol // Warhammer 40,000
This set comes with a solid core of ten Necron Warriors that are going to be able to survive even the harshest of conditions. They are protected by a band of ten Lychguard which can also be built as Triarch Praetorians (although the second of these units can't be used in Boarding Actions). Finishing things off, you then have three of the deadly Ophydian Destroyers that are going to be able to snake their way deeper into the heart of these space hulks to cut your foes to pieces. There is also a Canoptek Plasmacyte that can help aid your killer robots.
Sticking with the idea of getting stuck into combat, there is also a Boarding Patrol set for the Tyranids.
Tyranid Boarding Patrol // Warhammer 40,000
This set comes with three Tyranid Warriors which can be tweaked to match the various foes you might face in your boarding actions. There are then eight Genestealers (a squad of give in-game) that you can sneak through shadowy halls, ready to lunge at unsuspecting troops. Finishing things off, there is also the murderous Broodlord who is a proper killing machine.
It's a bit of a shame that the Genestealers are still the older miniatures. It would have been nice to see them updated before getting a set like this. If the rumours are to be believed though, we'll be getting a new roster of Tyranid miniatures with the 10th Edition of Warhammer 40,00 this summer.
Last but not least, we have the powerhouse of the Imperium that are the Grey Knights. These daemon killers are going to be storming space hulks and arks of omen, ready to cleanse them of Chaos filth.
Grey Knights Boarding Patrol // Warhammer 40,000
This set of miniatures are led by Castellan Crowe who fights at the head of a band of Grey Knights Terminators. You've then got a core of ten Grey Knights which can be dashed into combat as Interceptors or used to burn out your enemies as Purifiers. A great set for those that want to get into the core Imperium Vs Chaos battle happening with the Arks Of Omen. With Vashtorr on the loose, it's well worth having the Grey Knights on side!
These three sets are going to be coming soon and will sit alongside the existing Space Marine and Chaos Space Marine sets we've already got. Could this still be a marker of the kind of armies that Games Workshop are hoping for people to use when we move to the new edition?
Which of these Boarding Patrols would you pick?

Ooh nice Nid hulk bashing for the win.
Despite being a casual 40k collector and player, I’m just going to say it. A limited run product of repackaged models is hardly breaking news. I get it GW is the big gorilla in the room and attracts traffic, takes away space from other interesting things.
The Space Marine boarding patrol, which only officially comes out tomorrow, is sold out or otherwise unobtainable in most bigger UK stores and has been for days (OTT included). So these won’t sit alongside anything and might well be unobtainable to many in the first instance too. Makes it all rather uninteresting.
This
I could get GK one just to bolster my growing GK army.
Great but the sad thing is GW aren’t’ smart enough to realise THESE should be part of their MAIN product line, i.e. Start Collecting.
