THQ confirms Co-Op Space Marine
August 10, 2011 by beerogre
So it's offical... THQ have now confirmed that there will be a cooperative mode on their new Warhammer 40K: Space Marine game.
But there's a downside... the cooperative mode will be available free when you buy the game... however, if you get t he game second hand, you'll have to buy cop-op mode as an add-on.
So if you were hoping to snag a cheap copy on eBay, be warned you may still have to throw some extra cash at the game to get all the extra goodies!

Well thats good to know – love a bit of co-op, and should be even better as Space Marines
With as many people as there are on this site, a collective gamer group would destroy the rankings in online play.
if ur an xbox player id be more than happy to desroy the rankings with you
Was that a female IG at the start?
This game looks more and more epic each time it’s shown. Can’t wait to play.
This looks better than the Ultramarines movie.
well it doesn’t take much to best that horror show of a film. but this game does look quite epic
combine these game cinematics with the facial mapping tech used in both LA Noire and Ultramarines and we’d be onto a real winner.
I believe the female guardsman is 2nd Lieutenant Mira – The commanding officer leading the remaining Imperial Guard units. According to the Wiki. That Chaos Sorcerer Lord, whos name is Nemeroth looks really awesome and badass. Also i believe he is voiced by the same guy who did Gaberial Angelos and Eliphas from Dark Crusade.
But yeah Relic should of done the Ultramarine Movie and if they do this game right it could be the Ultramarine Movie we wanted, except its interactive. I like the idea of a live orchestra for the music! ROLL ON SEPTEMBER bye bye uni life!
Also i know sofar only Loyal marines and Chaos Marines have been announced for Multiplayer but i hope we get to play as Orks and Imperial guard as well.
Also i like that Ork Warboss “Was Dat supposed to hurt?” lol
Just take my money already. Please. I’m ready.
“But there’s a downside… the cooperative mode will be available free when you buy the game… however, if you get t he game second hand, you’ll have to buy cop-op mode as an add-on.”
That sounds like a typical marketing ploy that I have come to expect from GW.
This has become comon practice for videogames. Certain retailers were putting 2nd hand discs on sale for almost full price. Developers feel this has undercut their new game sales so the theory is to claw back some of the lost revenue or possibly make the cost of 2nd hand game plus the download the same as buying new. If it’s the same price then you will pay for brand new wouldn’t you? I am fine with this personally I only buy games that I really want to play and I would prefer my money to go to the developers then… Read more »
Just to mention- retailers (gamestop I know) drop the price on second hand games which need online passes by the value of the pass. Otherwise they lose their second hand sales, so you’re still going to get it cheaper second hand even with spending MS points or whatever on online pass!
Looks mega epic, Ultramarines was a pretty epic film, however this is the film that we really wanted! Though it’s a game!! 😀
Woooohoooo hooooooo hooooo….. oh yeah baby.
the paying for co-op is a thing the computer game industry is bringing in to try and make up for all the money they are losing due to trade in’s and selling second hand games online as they dont recive a penny from these sales. they have predicted that if they dont do something to make money from these sales they will be out of business in max 10 years.
hope this makes sense.
cheers
This preview…
why are my pants wet?
I know it’s their job, but THQ really are giving this game the hard sell. Plus that looks like there’s far too many visual spoilers among those clips.
Must… find… money
I like the look and feel of it all. The only thing I wish for is that space marines stop being the focus of all the games. I know they made them the poster child of the 40k game, but just once can’t it be Imperial Guard or sisters? I think I’ll relate more with someone that isn’t 300 years old and unstoppable.
This is no attack on the game itself, just GW always going with the marines as the safe bet.
“But there’s a downside… the cooperative mode will be available free when you buy the game… however, if you get t he game second hand, you’ll have to buy cop-op mode as an add-on.” How is that a downside? Its done like that so that game retailers don’t take every penny for selling the games preowned. When a preowned game is sold, all the profits go to the Game retailer, while nothing is sent back to the actual makers of the game. Who’s more important? the game retailers? Or the Awesome companies like THQ that make these awesome 40k games?… Read more »
Space marine: “Iv’e saved some orks for you.”
Me: Why thank you!
What is the source of this information?
I would guess the THQ staff at GenCon probably.
Praying to the Chaos Gods that this is done right! YAAARRGHH!
JUST WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Loved the Ultramarines film. This game will, hopfully, be like being a character in the film. Just hope they are nor overselling it as no game is perfect. The train game sequence reminds me of the one in Gears or War and of course the Gears look very like and use weapons that are like those of Space Marines.
