The Leagues Of Votann Army Set Coming Soon To Warhammer 40K!
September 1, 2022 by brennon
Games Workshop took the NOVA Open as a chance to preview everything that is going to be coming to the Leagues Of Votann for Warhammer 40,000! We got a trailer showcasing the whole range and also a bit more of a look at some of the characters that will be leading the Leagues into battle.

You can see some of the brand new miniatures in the trailer above but we also picked out the individual new units that we didn't know about until early this morning. We start with some more for the Cthonian Berserks with the Mole Grenade Launcher.
Cthonian Berserk Mole Grenade Launcher // Warhammer 40,000
Adapted from blasting charges used during mining, the Mole Grenade Launcher can be used to make way for the Berserks as they charge into the fray. Use these alongside your melee-focused warriors and you'll have a much better time getting to the front lines.
We then move to some of the new characters coming to support the Leagues Of Votann. Here we have the Brokhyr Iron-Master who is in charge of some of the faithful robots that fight alongside these Space Dwarves.
Brokhyr Iron-Master // Warhammer 40,000
These E-COGS aren't quite as intelligent as the proper Ironkin but they are able to aid the Brokhyr in repairing vehicles on the battlefield and lay down some protective fire at the same time. I don't think that you could have Dwarves in your game without there being engineers of some kind.
Keeping with support-style characters, we also have Squat Gandalf - also known as the Grimnyr.
Grimnyr // Warhammer 40,000
Blessed with highly sought-after psychic powers thanks to the use of cloneskeins, the Grimnyr offer their wisdom to the Leagues Of Votann and guide them in all matters. They are also an important link to the Kin as a whole. I think this miniature in particular looks awesome and I like that it has proper Old World Runesmith vibes about its design. The staff in particular is awesome.
A heavily armoured Champion is also part of the fighting force hitting the tabletop soon. This Einhyr Champion comes clad in some of the best armour the Leagues can craft and wields some seriously deadly weapons.

The description of them is "living battering ram". So, send this right into the heart of the action and see what they can kill! I'm still not massively sold on the shoulder pads for this make of armour but it feels a little bit less clunky here which is good.
Lastly, when it comes to heroes we also have a look at one of the named characters for the Leagues Of Votann. Here is Uthar The Destined.
Uthar The Destined // Warhammer 40,000
Here is some more fluff on this particular hero...
"The most accomplished hero of the Greater Thurian League, Kâhl Ûthar the Destined is a ruthless warrior armed with masterfully wrought weapons, including the legendary Blade of the Ancestors. With a gift for assessing enemy foes, he ensures that the Kinhosts he leads strikes with swift and brutal precision."
The kit can be used to make Uthar as you see here or you can use him to make your own unique Kahl as we've seen in past previews. I am quite liking the craggy and scar-wracked face though as it gives him some serious menace!
Ok, so that's the characters but what about a new vehicle? Well, the Leagues Of Votann can also get their hands on the Hekaton Land Fortress.
Hekaton Land Fortress // Warhammer 40,000
It's not quite the land train that everyone was hoping for but it's still a pretty serious piece of kit. This is the signature vehicle of the Votann and can carry twelve miniatures into combat. It also comes bristling with guns to make sure that the Votann make it into combat. It also continues this almost "moon buggy" look that the Votann have with their vehicles which I am quite liking!
So when can you actually get your hands on the Leagues Of Votann? Well, a big Army Set is on the way for the Leagues Of Votann and should be released pretty soon.

This comes with a good selection of the launch wave of miniatures for the Leagues Of Votann. You get Uthar The Destined (or a regular Kahl), the Einhyr Champion, three Hernkyn Pioneers and twenty Hearthkyn Warriors who can be split into two units of ten for a Patrol Detachment.
New Khorne Berserkers!
As well as the Leagues Of Votann, we also got a proper look at the brand new sculpts for the Khorne Berserkers that will be in the new World Eaters Codex.
Khorne Berserkers Preview // Warhammer 40,000
We saw one of these previously but we now got a better look at the miniatures.
New Khorne Berserkers // Warhammer 40,000
I think the new look is a vast improvement over the original designs that have served the forces of Chaos well (?) over the past twenty or so years. I like that you still have plenty of the grinning skull masks and toothy maws that make the Khorne Berserkers feel properly nasty and deadly. Alas, we won't have our green-eyed skull boy anymore but I'm sure he will live on in spirit.
New Horus Ascended Miniature From Forge World
As well as all of the buzz around Warhammer 40,000, we also got a new miniature from Forge World for Warhammer: The Horus Heresy.
Horus Ascended // Warhammer: The Horus Heresy
Shop Warhammer: The Horus Heresy @ Store.OnTableTop
Games Workshop and Forge World were pretty sure that the miniature for Horus needed a proper chaotic glow-up. I think they have achieved that and Horus now looks like someone at the head of a rebellious crusade against his father.
Horus Ascended // Warhammer: The Horus Heresy
Shown in the midst of his destructive rampage across the stars, it seems fitting that Horus is now standing atop a pile of bodies. The miniature screams death and destruction and is a fitting way to show off Horus at the height of his power as he looks to assault Terra and bring The Emperor low.
If you're looking for the true face of Horus and his traitorous ways then make sure to keep an eye out for this release in the near future.

That Land Fortress is huge, I wonder what the inside looks like.
The Khorne guys look nice. But that’s probably because they haven’t strayed to much from the older designs as much.
As wonderful as Horus 2.0 looks – just why? Why do this too me! I literally had one Primarch left to buy – now based upon the closing comment around GW & FW redoing everyone, I have 19 to buy.
If it takes another 10 years to release them all I will be 57, I will be blind by then!
CURSE YOU!!!!
You need to soldier on for those of us who can’t! Take one for the team! I’ll be rooting for you. ?
thanks for the support! I will do my level best, but its going to be tough! “10 years man 10 years! I dropped out I started buying Horus Hersey Primarchs and became a fulltime hobbyist…” To paraphrase Jeremey Piven and John Cusack. To be fair there are a couple that could do with another pass (Leman Russ and your weird hanging leg – I am looking at you…..and Corvus Corax looks a bit odd), but then there are others who I am not sure you can do much with, if the goal is to show the Primarchs during the Hersey… Read more »

We need naked Konrad Kurze in a feather cloak! Let’s make this happen, it can be out own Snyder Cut.
crazy Konrad just eating corpses and flapping his feathery cloak – what a diorama base that would be! Him with a flesh effigy of the Emperor!
To be honest the squats look like an after thought, there is nothing in the squat line which fits in with the 40k style. The vehicle weapons look like an after thought. Then again the Tau dont look like they fit in with the 40k design style. Just another GW “we can cash in on this” but with so many people saying the squat units look adhoc I will be surprised they will. The 40k squat design style they have chose here is more for high sci fi that grim dark 40k. As for the Khorne Berserkers you really cant… Read more »
40k is more than just imperium with it’s skulls. If eldar were released today people would complain they look too clean.
I do like the new space dwarfs.
I didnt realize those bots were hovering at first glance the ruins they are flying over make them look as if they have one leg. The psyker is a nice model and reminds me of the old living ancestors but the armoured guys are still a bit too spacemarine looking.
Yeah, I thought the same thing at first glance. They’re kinda weird-looking. Why not just use clear flight stands like the other flying units? Those look just fine.
All of those look really good.
Ignoring the…mess… that is the Leagues of Votann, those new Khorne Berserkers look GREAT!

😉
I do like how (some) of the models and vehicles for the LoV faction look.
I do not consider them (space)dwarves or Squats, because they lack mighty beards and look like they got a primaris upgrade of their own.
So much negativity!
I personally am excited for new squats, (yes that’s what I’m calling them). I think I will pick up the new Leagues Of Votann Army box. It’s time for the space dwarves to return!
As far as beards go. Add them if you want them. Time to get busy, building, modding, and painting!
The votann look really nice put together. The big tank is a bit meh, but having too many gun emplacements is standard for 40k vehicles so yeah.
The berserkers are fine, but khorne in general has the worst aesthetic of all chaos gods, so they do nothing for me.
Sorry but that Land Fortress looks more like a version of the popular 80’s toy “BIG TRAK” that had been designed by Fisher Price (it’s just missing the brightly coloured “drag along” rope at the front). I’m not entirely sure what’s causing these new space dwarves to constantly miss the target with me. Is it the paint job?, or the fact GW basically did a Primaris on the old Squat models? Could it be that’s there’s not a consistent “look” to the army? I did like the Squats of old, with their rank and file being equipped with flak armour… Read more »
Hmm – when I first caught sight of Einhyr, in the angular armour, I thought it looked VERY similar to the Mantic style of Space Dwarf. I feel the same about the Land Fortress – that certainly gives me vibes of the Mantic range. Then I saw the Hearthkyn and thought they could just be new Astartes. It’s probably just me – having seen Squats come and go, and other companies variations on the theme, there is bound to be some crossover and “inspiration”. But for me, the army set as a whole seems a little…..disjointed(?) – the Pioneers, Hearthkyn,… Read more »
What’s everybody getting bent out of shape on the state of the League’s “beardiness”? These are not Tolkien dwarves, nor are they fantasy dwarves. Some of them are FEMALE (ooh, I know, shudders run through the masses). Maybe they’re just gents that like to get their space helmets on and/or closed without having to deal with a foot long beard in the way or a mouth and nose full of hair when surrounded by sealed against vacuum. The new vehicles that we’ve seen must be like a Tardis. The Sagataur is supposed to carry 10 squats and this new one… Read more »
