T’au Empire Pre-Orders Hit For Warhammer 40,000 This Week
April 25, 2024 by brennon
Games Workshop are going to be taking pre-orders this weekend for the full release of the T'au Empire for Warhammer 40,000. You'll be able to get your hands on the new Codex, an updated Combat Patrol and all of the new Kroot miniatures separately from the launch box we saw a few weeks ago.
Codex: T'au Empire // Warhammer 40,000
Shop Warhammer 40,000 @ Store.OnTableTop
This book comes with all of the up-to-date lore for the T'au Empire as well as all of the revamped rules for using them on the tabletop. You will also find new Combat Patrol rules and an updated set of Crusade campaign rules for following a more narrative approach to your grimdark wargames. There are two variants of the Codex for you to choose from depending on how loyal you are to the growing power of The Greater Good.
The new Combat Patrol will also be popping up giving folks a good chance for you to dive in and start your T'au Empire army using the slimmed-down rules.
T'au Combat Patrol // Warhammer 40,000
This set comes with a Commander in their high-tech Enforcer battlesuit as well as a Breacher Team and a set of ten Pathfinders who will be setting up all of those Markerlights for you to aim at. You also get a Devilfish that will make sure you can deploy that Breacher Team right into the heart of the fighting and then get them out of dodge before things go badly!
As well as the Combat Patrol, you can also get your hands on the Datasheet Card pack which comes with quick reference cards to look at during battle and your Datasheets for the various units in your force. Always beware of buying these packs as they are prone to going out of date when Games Workshop do errata and updates for Warhammer 40,000. They can be really handy but just bear that in mind.

If you want some jazzy dice then you can also get your hands on the T'au Empire designs from Games Workshop. They are clear, just like the T'au when it comes to how they want to enact the plans of The Greater Good across the galaxy.
T'au Empire Dice // Warhammer 40,000
Games Workshop are normally a little hit-and-miss when it comes to their dice designs but I think these hit the mark nicely. You will be able to pre-order these this weekend as well although be wary that they might sell out very quickly.
The New Kroot!
Folks who missed out on the launch box for the Kroot can now get their hands on these auxiliaries of the T'au separately. It all starts with their new Shaper miniatures that lead the way for your hunting packs.
Kroot War Shaper // Warhammer 40,000
Kroot Trail Shaper // Warhammer 40,000
Kroot Flesh Shaper // Warhammer 40,000
The Kroot Shapers are able to bring their various skills to the battlefield, leading the Kroot in different ways. The War Shapers are experienced fighters whilst the Trail Shaper leads you towards your prey via discreet routes. The Flesh Shaper then takes on the role of shaman and ritualist, choosing the best cuts in order to further the advancement of the Kroot.
The basic Kroot Carnivores have also been updated and come in a new set featuring classic weapons and some new ones for good measure.
Kroot Carnivores // Warhammer 40,000
These Kroot Carnivores are perfect for those who want to run the exclusively Kroot-based detachment in Warhammer 40,000. You can completely remove the need to use silly ol' T'au and their technology in your games in favour of brute strength and cunning tactics.
If you want to get more specialised and focus on the Kroot intently then you can also introduce some of the mighty Krootox and such in your army too.
Krootox Rider // Warhammer 40,000
The Krootox Rider helps you lay down some covering fire on the tabletop whilst the Krootox Rampagers are the youngsters in the pack who just want to thunder forward and smash their enemies apart in close combat.

More revamped miniatures have also been added into the mix with the updated sculpts for the Kroot Hounds. They are now a lot more muscular showing that they have been on the chow! I sense that maybe the Flesh Shaper has managed to find the right cuts of meat.
Kroot Hounds // Warhammer 40,000
Last but not least, we have the Kroot Lone-Spear who can set up towards the back of the battlefield and take some potshots or hunt down enemy vehicles. That explosive-tipped javelin can do some damage if you hand a solid hit.

All of these miniatures are available to pre-order this weekend and will be coming out later in May. It seems like the release of the T'au has been a long time coming but finally, they will be gracing tabletops once more. It will be neat to see how many folks bring Kroot armies to life and how many stick with the classic T'au force laden with battlesuits.
Are you going to be scooping these miniatures up?

The bird alien on the dinosaur looks like a cool mini. The main Tau range is pretty dated though. The dice look nice.
GW is killing me with the prices of the smaller-pointed squads. A full unit of pyrovores for 105 points? $150 for 3 models. I’m not updating my old ones at that price. A full unit of 20 kroot is currently $110 for 110 points. I was tempted to make an all kroot army, but I’m already collecting OPR Jackals which are $44 for the same amount of models from their official printer.
The krootox are still some of the coolest models though! Hopefully they are decently priced so I can convert them a bit to fit in with the jackals.
The old Tau combat patrol was better, in my opinion. This new one looks like a horrible deal.
