Community Spotlight: Sporty Dwarfs, Classic Chaos Marines & A Mighty Viking Tabletop
June 9, 2017 by crew
Come and join us for another Community Spotlight where we get stuck into some more awesome projects from our Hobby & Painting Forum.
Remember that right now we still have our Hobby Night Live thread up and running where you can continue to share your projects
Blood Bowl Dwarf by teddymademedoit
We're diving right in with some more Blood Bowl this time around as we show off the sterling work that is being done by teddymademedoit on this Dwarf Blood Bowl team.
This fellow is painted up in red which I think is a great colour to work with. It matches nicely with the bronze trim that has been used on the edges of the armour and the beard colouring too. Of course, that's something that will change from Dwarf to Dwarf but I think it works as a vibrant colour for the Blood Bowl pitch.
I think the basing has also been done well too. Using a mix of both grass and mud it will work across all manner of pitches and there are even some pitch markings too which is neat. It will be great to find out what the rest of the team looks like once they're all painted and ready for a scrap.
I will raise a mug for Bugmans Brewers!
Emperor's Children by halfmileduck
We're sticking with a bit of a Games Workshop theme right now as we show off these Classic Emperor's Children models from halfmileduck. Since we're looking towards a new edition it seems like a lot of folks are diving back into their collections to paint up older models.
As well as working on some troops which you will see below he also painted up this model of Fabius Bile. It's awesome model has been given a great lick of paint with a brilliant pink/purple armour design which works well against the cream of his jacket.
Once again it's nice to see some more bright colours on the tabletop and obviously, the Emperor's Children allow for that. You can see it as they're grouped together below...
I think that these classic looking Chaos Space Marines have really come out nicely and I love the painting style. The hazard stripes on the weapons work nicely too, adding to that retro feel. Working as a frame to the miniatures the darker bases act as a nice match. They also work as a nice generic base design for the grim battlefields of Warhammer 40,000.
15mm Viking Tabletop by ojenserud
You may have indeed seen this tabletop on Hobby Night Live but we just couldn't let this go without giving it a Golden Button. Check out this fantastic Viking Tabletop by ojenserud in 15mm, soon to be inspiration for a 28mm project.
I really like the framing of everything here where you have just enough of the various terrain pieces to make it feel natural. The fencing works as a nice outer border and the small copse of trees help give you a different landscape compared to the open fields.
This is made all the more impressive when you see the tabletop in the midst of a proper natural landscape and how well it blends into real life.
Match that with the fact that ojenserud was also able to get some work done on this at a Metal Festival and I think you'll agree that this tabletop is a fantastic work of art.
If this work has come out so nicely in 15mm then I can't wait to see what will happen when ojenserud takes the project to the larger scale of 28mm. Bring it on!
