A Spartan Land Raider Grinds Into Warhammer: The Horus Heresy
April 22, 2022 by brennon
Games Workshop has been continuing their Warhammer: The Horus Heresy previews with a look at a big new plastic vehicle. The Spartan Land Raider looks to be coming as part of that Sci-Fi boxed set that will set the scene for your Heresy-era wargames.

The Land Raider Spartan or the Spartan Assault Tank is a pretty big mainstay of the armies of both the Loyalists and the Traitors. When it comes to shuttling your troops into battle, it can carry twenty-six Legionaries or thirteen Terminators.

As was pointed out by arbitorian as part of their video looking at the Spartan, it might have tweaked transportation capacity so that it can bring a Primarch into battle alongside ten Terminators. It would be rather neat to see a Primarch stomping down that assault ramp.

As well as being a great transport option, the Spartan is also armed to the teeth. It has a mass of lascannons on sponsons as well as the hull-mounted heavy bolters. You can also strap a pintle-mounted weapon to the hatch on the top that the gunner can use.
The base kit for the Spartan also comes with options for adding the Imperial Aquila or the Eye of Horus to the side of the tank. So, you can show your allegiance to the Loyalists or the Traitors as you ride into battle. If you want more vehicle goodness, you can dive into the Forge World Webstore offerings.
Are you going to be snapping one of these up?

OK I admit it I want one!
yeah … lovely models that’s for sure.
I may go total retro and wait for a land raider but my old man bells are ringing.
As it were
New Land Raider variants are welcome and HH is perfect excuse for that.
Nooooo I have several still boxed landraiders so I’ll back away quietly.
one of the things I have never ever bought is vehicles for 40K or 30K. I am very tempted by all of the HH carry on I must say.
Looks very nice, but I dread to think how much it will cost!
Also, and I know it matches the artwork, the original Rogue Trader era design of these vehicles and the real world WWI tank design inspiration, but I wish they would provide an option for putting some armour over the tracks… Despite understanding the inspiration, I find having the tracks be so vulnerable such an immersion-breaker!
The stupidity is the point.
Even when (ESPECIALLY when) played completely straight, 40K is at it’s best when it’s a dark comedy.
yeah … best not to think of the design in the 40k setting.
So many things that make no sense at all.
Even if you play it as a dark comedy too many things just don’t add up.
Vehicles with no ground clearance or suspension, actually fighting at all when they control space. It’s like Star Wars, best not to think about it and enjoy it for what it is, an aesthetic choice to make it unique and visually identifiable.
I can’t say I’ve ever had any problems with Star wars as far as vehicles were concerned.
They may use magical anti grav, but at least there’s ground clearance 😉
AT-AT walkers, when they have magical anti gravity.
they’re not half as bad as those big stompy robots in 40k or the mechs in battletech.
4 feet are definitely more stable than 2 😉
But the ramp opening in front of the vehicle doesn’t bother you? Every dismount a slaughter.
No, it doesn’t… Partly it’s the WWII landing craft inspiration, but also marines are supposed to be so heavily armoured that they’re able to run into machinegun fire. And in any case, the marines piling out are being supported by the weapons carried by their APC. Yes, it’s still ridiculous, but that one doesn’t bother me!
It will be great if they do bringing out M.II, marine’s armour for heresy battles.
