The Space Wolf Ancients Pre-orders Hit For Warhammer 40,000
August 2, 2014 by brennon
The Space Wolves are out in force, or at least their ancients are, with the release of the Space Wolf Venerable Dreadnought, Murderfang and Bjorn the Fell Handed onto the pre-order lists for Games Workshop. Oh and the small matter of the Codex!
They are pictured, from top to bottom, as Venerable, Murderfang and Bjorn and as Sam said when he first saw these I have a good liking for the awesome new Venerable Dreadnought and Murderfang is quite cool (although the face puts me off) but Bjorn just looks too 'normal' for my liking and not entirely special despite his various decorations.
Codex Space Wolves is of course coming too allowing you to use these murderous ancients and the flyer we saw last week. It's got another great piece of cover art by Raymond Swanland and as with most codices these days you can pick up a limited edition version too. In this case Games Workshop have made two!
Overall I'm quite liking the look of the new Dreadnoughts and it will be interesting to get a look inside the codex proper and see how the rules match up to the models.
What do you think?

I think the GW team have been playing Warmachine…
Schhh .. you could get someone fired 😉
Finally, some dreadnoughts worthy of Russ!
What is up with Murderfang’s head? That is one ugly guy.. and not in a good way.
Its just bed head hair LOL.
Why is it carrying a shield? Is it made out of papier mache?
Kozplay 40K
To save for a more practical ‘ride’ he’s had to take on a second job delivering pizzas. As he can only totter along at half the speed of a man on those under-engineered little pegs, he needs to carry a heated platter, the shield, to keep the pie warm till it gets there. The axe is for people who don’t pay.
See? Who needs GW to make believable fluff? 🙂
Three Cheese Pizza
hip hip Huzzah!

sorry to break this to you but if its pizza he should be holding it flat because the way hes holding it now all the topping will fall off to 1 side
. maybe its a frisbee all dogs like them
During their deep slumber dreadnoughts are often targets of pranks by their battle brothers.
Same reason a terminator carries a storm sheild and thunder hammer instead of a ranged weapon ; no good reason at all 😉
Thats not a shield @Redben, its the new puppies frizzbie of doom. 🙂
trust you to say Frisbee b4 me now my comment above makes me look stupid and thiefly
As a core kit I actually like a lots of the panel detailing and bits – the axe and shield is, interesting….
The murderfang just ain’t doing it for me aesthetically or from a background point of view – the whole sealed sarcophagus being the essence of the dreadnought.
Still each to their own, which I feel is a statement may well come up when the wolf sled gets posted here.
Anyone fancy a sweepstakes on the number of comments on the wolf sled? lol
Reckon it is going to come in for some serious sledging!
For US friends of BoW and foolish non cricket loving fans from the Commonwealth:

I’m usually good for about thirty ‘hate’ comments and oodles of minuses if I point out that the figure is tragically flawed, poorly designed, and ill conceived… which I suspect it will be :-).
Therefore my choice in the pool is ‘120’.
Hmmm That may be a tad conservative
On the other hand some folks may not post negative comments as a way of thanking GW for the LOLZ
I’ll save you the trouble of commenting @cpauls1 . I’ve seen the “sled”. It’s more like a floating boat and IMHO it looks absolutely terrible. Just really, really stupidly awful.
I’m thinking next week we are going to see record numbers of “wtf is that?” posts.
Now where would the fun be @erastus, if I didn’t provide a satirical description and honest comment to get all the GW loyalists frothing at the mouth :-). OMG, if you’re already on my side it MUST look like a can of crushed arseholes lol. Maybe we could have a heated agreement instead ;-). Can’t wait!
@cpauls1 our disagreement before was never about criticising the miniature, or criticising GW. I only took umbrage at you taking the proverbial out of people who like GW. I get annoyed when one group of wargamers starts attacking another group, for whatever reason.
Regarding the sled, I’m saving my true thoughts on it for the inevitable discussion, but safe to say it will divide people.
It could be low as words may just fail people, 🙂 I am sure someone will love it
Once again, converting thread into comic book
WHOOSH! BANG WHACK BOOM SPLAT! KABOOM! SNAP! VROOOOOM!
KA-POW! RUMBLE CRUNCH POW! ZAP!
THUD.
I do agree with Sam, Bjorn is not ancient enough the contemptors in 30k are so much better without being 10k years old!
