New Space Marine Librarian Now Available For Warhammer 40k
June 13, 2015 by brennon
The new Space Marine Librarian is now available from Games Workshop for Warhammer 40,000 and those new armies you've been making. See what you think of him...
"An Open Mind Is Like A Fortress..."
As you can see he comes in Terminator Armour with his Storm Bolter aimed squarely at the enemy. He even comes with a few different variants which include the much cooler 'summoning physic energy' hand...
Will you be adding him to your force of Space Marines? I always thought they were some of the coolest parts of the Space Marine army alongside the zealous Chaplains.
What do you think of him?

As I said before – boring! It looks like a toy. Even the failcost mini is better than this.
Is it true they can summon demons in the new codex?
Look like a toy? Really? 😀
…Yup! It is bland by comparison to previous ‘versions’. It doesn’t look like they have bothered. It has all the excitement of a caravan site on a rainy day. Reminds me of the original SH Terminators – toys.
In my opinion the ‘toy’ look is the painter’s fault, but it’s only my opinion
Not a bad point! Maybe in my old age i’m not ‘getting’ it. Many of the newer wacoshop minis lack a crispness (best way I can describe what I mean) and I don’t get excited when I look at them.
The wacoshop painting cult look is lacking that individual flourish that makes you want to go out and have a go. It used to. I would buy stuff just because the way one of the painters had presented it.
New Dev marines are the same – the cherub is dreadful when you look at the older metal versions.
It’s not for me, mainly because it looks far too similar to the Blood Angels one, it seems fairly clear they took the Blood Angels Termi Librarian digital file and slightly remodelled it to reconfigure it into a generic SM Termi Librarian.
Frankly that just smacks of laziness, and an opportunity lost.
I’ve been full of praise for a most of the new sculpts that GW has been producing of late, and I feel nothing but disappointment when looking at this one – for £18.00 I expect a lot more than a remodelled older sculpt.
It looks good. Although i really wished that they made a helmeted librarian…
Agreed, best armour in the galaxy… Yet bare face…
Yeah, a helmeted head option along with a few more weapon options would have been nice.
Again, at a loss for why this is even necessary. Why do SM need 4 variants of every model they have? There’s armies out there with ONE option for a miniature, yet we just keep getting repeats of the same SM models every time there is a new codex. Just start calling it Warhammer Space Marine, and drop the charade.
This is the first plastic, non chapter specific SM terminator librarian they’ve made isn’t it? Obviously part of their move to make everything in plastic instead of resin/metal.
Well they could of done a librarian on bike or jump pack as there is no such model in any material. I thought filling in the options with no models would be higher priority then the ‘first plastic, non chapter specific SM terminator librarian’… 😉
They could have, but why would that be a higher priority? GW has stated all along that they will be phasing out finecast in favour of plastic. This is just part of that move. Maybe they want to get all of the HQ minis into plastic before they make any new ones.
They should be a higher priority as they don’t exist in any format at the moment. I’m sure they’d sell more jump pack/biker libbys than yet another termie libby due to this.
…to fleece chumps out of their cash is why SM need 4 variants of every model!
Hit a nerve?
Uncalled for
Are you just trying to hit a nerve?
I apologise. Sometimes I just can’t resist being a dick.
You’re not on the short list of people who are allowed to insult others @unclejimmy, as you can from one of the posts further down.
@unclejimmy I have variants of every Chaplain/Librarian etc. etc. Not fleeced at all – it’s because each model was a piece of art in its own right, with its own character. It’s called collecting. That’s what GW did when it was, you know, a miniature company that made miniatures not toys.
I won’t be buying this piece of shite that looks like the toy you’d get in a 99p packet (trash bag bunch! remember?). I’ve seen Monsters in my Pocket with more detailing…
Fair enough you don’t like it but some of these comments are a little far fetched now aren’t they @poosh ?
“piece of shite”
“toy you’d get in a 99p packet”
“Monsters in my Pocket with more detailing”
Seems like you’re joining unclejimmy in purposely trying to get a response here, whether its a comment from someone who likes it or a few +1s from the other whiners.
Obviously this comment will undoubtedly get a few negatives though so you’re probably right.
whiners?
Yup… toy. Action figure pose… and cape made of what?… Vinyl? Armour so thick he looks like a washing machine, and all for only 18.50 pounds. I’d consider it for 99p, but only to part it out on other stuff.
Whiners = People who whine.
Once upon a time GW made different models for each HQ – each one a beautiful model. Remember their models are collectibles as well.
I have every single Empire Warrior Priest. And many of the different marine chaplains and librarians – all great models I love. THAT is what GW should be about – not this shoddy generic plastic toy.
18.50 pounds is insane .. if thats not a detachment from reality i dont know what is.
Shameful model. I fell asleep looking at it. yes it’s functional and well made. It’s not a great miniature though. Barely any detail or character. And even worse almost no options – no different heads, just a different hand option. If you’re gonna use plastic and therefore not achieve the level of detail a metal or resin model gives, at least give us more options! The HQ choice should be a showcase model – one of the best sculpts that you put your full pride and effort into. The superb resin/metal version is 100% superior – more detail, ad true… Read more »
Remember when GW made pieces of art, and not toys?
Yes! Now all they make is that slurping sound, like all companies do when they circle the drain.
They still managed to put his foot on a tiny weeny little rock, are they trolling?
lol
he looks good but to expensive.
It’s alright, but not really that exciting, the power armoured one looks much more dynamic. Just one of the bland generic models they have to produce I guess. Might’ve been more exciting if it was a completely modular kit, so you can build it from the ground up and add whatever weapons or helmets you like, rather than just having a different hand option. That said, these plastic HQ minis are meant to replace the old metal and finecast versions that, of course were sculpted in one pose. Maybe they will create a boxed kit to make a customisable librarian… Read more »
My problem is that he looks very “same-y” Take off the book from his back, swap the staff for a sword and you have a terminator sgt or captain. My suggestion for a librarian would be a standing pose, with head bowed, both hands on the staff as if he was praying or meditating, The make a lighting coming up the ground around him or around him, or lighting/psychic power arcing off the staff, and going into his armor. I do not know the process for the molds but that seems no more difficult than some of the odd shapes… Read more »
I have a lot of the original metal librarians and I agree that they had more detail thrown at them. That said this one is way better than the librarian in the original terminator set (although the helmet is still cracking on that one). I really like the hand stretching out summoning up a ball of energy to smite a foe but I have to agree with the two general points. To make this generic the sculptors have made this model bland and the cost is way too much!
It’s a fail simply, because it doesn’t improve on the previous model, paint-job or not its dull and uninspiring.
You’ll never see a Terminator character box set, simply because they’re too popular and will sell by the bucket load singly (even this dull and uninspiring version)
The Tactical rock is just stupid and Lazy, but I guess it’s paid for one sculptors Gas Bill !
Wow. The more I look at this model, the WORSE it actually gets. The sculpting is far lower than GW’s standard – it wouldn’t look out of place as a plastic model 15 years ago from GW. The resin / metal model is a a beauty and vastly superior – thank goodness it looks like GW have retained the resin model in their store. Why is the book STRAPPED ABOVE HIS HEAD. How the frak is he meant to consult it? A toy for kids. And believe me, there are actual “toys” (McFarlane toys) with WAY more detail, class and… Read more »
“The resin / metal model is a a beauty and vastly superior…”
But he had a book above his head too didn’t he?
Yes that’s true actually, still a superior model though!
And it’s telling that that model is now SOLD OUT.
Good indicator of how bad the plastic model is.
Maybe they made the plastic one because they were about to run out of the resin ones?
They make their models to order I believe, at most. So they can’t run out ‘least that’s what the GW staff told me when I called them and tried to ask sneaky questions. They have a forge across the road or something. I doubt the mold is worn out either.
No excuse for making such a cheap inferior model. The Blood Angels plastic terminator is miles better, and that’s not exactly a brilliant model.
The book feeds holy pages straight into the stormbolter and fire them at the enemy, in case thats not enough for the enemy to wisen up he can slam a miniature version of the book into someones face via the scepter. In case he loses the bolter the book is clearly readable to anyone from its elevated position. It helps if you read the fluff before complaining ok? 😉
Meh!
Not a bad model IMHO. Stupid price.
Should give him away as a freebie in a battle box or something.
I got a Christmas card for free when I walked into the store in December… but I’m not holding out for anything more.
Only thing that this one has going fpr compared to BA one is that storm bolter makes more sense than combi weapon that BA one had.
