Sigismund First Captain Of The Imperial Fists Hits The Battlfield From Forge World
June 12, 2015 by brennon
The mighty Sigismund - First Captain of the Imperial Fists has hit the webstore for Forge World and he is looking very spiffing indeed. A great addition to their growing Horus Heresy Character Series...
More information...
"Wielding the Black Sword, a paragon blade of ancient and unknown provenance, Sigismund has brought countless warriors and warlords to a bloody end. Now, as the Horus Heresy unfolds, he has turned his consummate skill with the blade against the Traitor Legions, ready to strike down all who oppose the Emperor of Mankind and endanger the Imperium he helped build."
Wielder Of The Black Sword
The model is an impressive one with Sigismund striking a defensive stance with his sword raised to deflect the blow of some deadly foe. He might even be getting ready to stick someone with the pointy end...
I knew there was a reason (apart from the whole zealous religious thing) that I loved the Black Templars as a Chapter. It's quite cool to see all the black worked into his armour by the painters giving a nod towards the successor Chapter that he made - one that's probably more famous than it's parent one to many Warhammer 40,000 players now.
What do you think?

A mini to fist em all.
Hes amazing.
Dorn: You failed me!
Stunning mini until you realise his legs are the same length as his torso, which kills it for me
He’s got gangsta pants on, hanging halfway down his a** . They should have posed him holding his pistol sideways while firing it.
I’m always a bit ambivalent towards Forge World’s space marines. On the one hand they’re all better than GW marines, but on the other, they’re not as good as they could have been if they’d been given the freedom to sort the scale issues out.
I duno, asterion moloc is spot on 😉
The pile of scrap metal he stands on looks great.
Not a fan of the figure’s legs either tho..
Quite certain the sculptor has never seen Da Vinci’s “Vetruvian Man.”
Ridicolous proportions are a hallmark of Warhammer 40/30K. Its really not just the legs that dont make anatomic sense..
Even with his stubby legs hes pretty cool.
Marines have enhanced human physiology, but there is nothing enhanced about having stumpy legs – its a sculpting error unless I missed the fluff where Sigismund was renown for stumpy legs
Weirdly I was looking at it as him having a too large torso so I was all like “whys everyone moaning about his legs? it’s his body that is messed up” 😛
could be, I think it because there is a scale match for upper half and lower half, and a disparity between the two, could be either but I wen to legs because they are the extremity.
However the more I look at it is it me or has he got the beginnings of a conehead going on?
Theres absolutely no doubt about anatomic inaccuracies in 40k/30k, thats not what I meant, and there are even more mistakes to be found.
But maybe… maybe Sigismund is such a killer swordsmen and second in skill only to the breed of them Primarchs because of his stumpy legs ? His tiny and quick steps might make him hard to anticipate and so he triples and dances his foes to death.
They probably will explain his legs in and upcoming Heresy novel.
its definatly in its first stages of conification, didnt notice that at first
ditto
That’s what I was thinking, his body looks long.
The problem is that the fluff has evolved but the miniatures haven’t. Back when Jes Goodwin designed the original plastic mk 7 marines, they were imagined as being only slightly taller than a normal man, but built like brick privies. Thus GW marine minis are about the same size as other human figures but have ludicrous shoulders. Many years later and marines in the fluff (and illustrations) have evolved into these übermensch colossi with tree trunk legs but the minis have kept the same proportions. There is a massive disconnect between the fluff, the rules and the minis. While I… Read more »
Never know, one day I might get my wish and FW will go it alone lol
We can dream! This doesn’t say ‘Emperors Champion’ to me. Lots of the new stuff, and from wacoshop too, is boring to look at.
Reinventing 40k to become what it deserves to be, now that would be something to witness .. new scale on the minis, a matured ruleset that reflects its many years in bussiness and respect for its fans and community. Open up the communication channels outside white “buy moooaaarrr!” dwarf. Negativity warning: and stop putting emphasis on goddamn swords on every goddamn character mini as by now its becoming sleep inducing to watch the same depicted combat situations on every release, imo. There are after all quite a bunch of very cool guns in the 41st millenium, sometimes i wonder why… Read more »
Well said, @erastus . Plus from me (I know… freaked me out too lol).
😉
Wise words.
Must remember to think harder, the way it is now my thoughts have way too short legs as well.
I wish they would do a reboot of 30k/40k and rewrite the history, dont friggin kill all the primarchs and evolve the whole thing similar to “Endtimes”.
And yes do the damn sculpts in a truer to fluff scale.
I think bringing back the primarchs would be a mistake. It would risk blurring the distinction between 40k and Horus Heresy. Personally, I think they should evolve 40k in a direction that plays up the sheer gothic insanity of it all. When I think of 40k I think of inquisitors, mad ecclesiarchs and underground genestealer cults.
I didnt say to bring em back, I meant they should reboot all history and rewrite it. In a Marvel/DC fashion, when they realise that they wrote themselsves into a corner.
As it is now 40k is fluff is boring, all the cool guys are dead, at best its a shadow of its former glory.
I like him but to be honest Im bored of these “standing with sword” poses, but I suppose the idea is that you collect the characters that match your chosen faction, so there is gonna be a certain amount of style overlap.
@erastus Im pretty sure I am going to go with Death Guard, might place an order for 5 assault marines in Mk4 armour over the weekend 🙂
@solar Traitor! 😉 Death Guard are a good choice. Their special units gave a lot of character.
He didn’t specify whether they were traitor or loyalist deathguard did he 😉
You going all 30k then solar????
@jay188 Yeah I think I am, but slowly. The main reason I held off 30k for so long is my huge backlog of minis, Im sure I am not alone but when you have hundreds of Orcs and Imperial Guard lying unpainted and then you have a Skaven army box which YOU HAVEN’T EVEN OPENED!! it becomes a little difficult to justify buying more expensive models lol So over the past few weeks I have been slogging through the backlog, last weekend I managed to finish building my Orc army, think I will make a start on painting later today.… Read more »
aaaand it is done! Went a bit overboard but literally just before I clicked submit common sense prevailed and I removed some shinies lol, can’t wait to get my order though!
You must post some photos once you start working on them @solar
Agreed!
@erastus will do, definitely. So far I have ordered just a five man tactical squad, and 5 man assault squad and set of Tigrus bolters. I was going to get some legion shoulder pads but I think I will try free handing them. I originally also had a 10 man tac plus pads and a close combat squad but decided to start small for now. I hope they come quickly.
I ummed and aahed for ages but went MK4 in the end but I will prob add some mk3s at a later date…
@erastus omg I tried to uprate you and clicked thumbs down instead cos im on phone. Can someone please upvote that for me?? Sorry!!
I feel ya solar got so many 40k marines myself sitting in boxes but 30k does have that certain flavour and i find I’m saving my pennys for a trip to WW.
Think base and sword are great but the Polux miniatures better for kit bashing as for scale ….i like my marines as they come for now 😉
Here’s the thing: If I’m paying £45.00 *choke* for a miniature I expect the proportions to be right, especially if he is a man-sized (OK slightly bigger) single. Can you buy him without the base? I see that as about £2.00 worth of toy scrap at best. If it was any other company, would anyone seriously give the figure a second look? The community has slagged mini’s of equal quality, at a tenth of the price, for far less, despite objections to the contrary. I know… same old negative comments. But if you want positive ones, make something for a… Read more »
Yes, please, lose the pile of junk he’s standing on. It detracts greatly (for me) from sigismund himself. Didn’t even notice any leg length discrepancies with that mass of trash he’s descending. And, sorry Brennon, but Imperial Fists will always have a bigger place in my heart than the Black Templars. Salamanders all the the way, though, only chapter that needed NO successors.
He was always going to have a sword like that. Isn’t he the fore runner of the Emporers Champion model for the Black Templars…..the guy with the sword just like that one. I like that they tried to make him a bit different wrt pose ie sword with opposing arm out streched to suggest he is a master technician with the sword. Unfortunately as mentioned above there is something very wrong with this. I’m not 100% sure its just scaling. His armour is very non typical. I think the retro armour bulks out his legs so they don’t taper much,… Read more »
I personally do like this model, but not enough to pay the price it is.
I like the model, I don’t actually think that the legs are out of proportion, I think its the pose and angels of the photography he is crouched after all
I agree with number32. He is crouched and if you look you’ll see his knees are bent. I did a rough measurement of legs vs torso and I think it is pretty good. Now having said that this model isn’t for me. I’m interested in the 30K universe but just as a fluff observer. Overall I think it is a good model.
I really like the model. Thinking he might be my first charater series model from FW. unless I settle down and wait for Robute 🙂
An eye of terror skirmish type game (with a necromundian advancement system) with heavy blood quest inspired scenarios and characters would perhaps have me interested in 40k again. A warband 40k game with the option to bring in units from the other armies that have been lost in the warp (slowy mutating from warp exposure). Of course it can be done with the inquisimunda system but theres just no damn way im buying GW at the current prices.
As a Templar fanatic I’ve been waiting for this model for as long as the figure series has been going. I’m rather disappointed unfortunately. I may get him one day but I’ll be giving him a helmet (I REALLY don’t like the head) and amending any proportion issues with careful sculpting (if there actually are any – I’m not convinced yet). Still looking forward to adorn though
One thing I will say is that if/when i pick this up I will absolutely be doing a head swap also. At the moment I am thinking him and Polux will be more for cabinet pieces than an army but hey we’ll see. I am researching alternative heads that fit with the descriptions in the Black Library stuff. The Blond Hair and Scar are missing on this one which is a shame.
I agree, needs a helmet.
