Shadowspear Battlebox Brings New Miniatures To Warhammer 40,000
February 8, 2019 by brennon
We knew it was coming. The forces of Chaos are arriving on Vigilus and they are very, very angry. Games Workshop has designed a new Battlebox for use in Warhammer 40,000 featuring Space Marines going up against Chaos Space Marines in Shadowspear.
All of the miniatures within this box are entirely new, for both factions, and offer you a chance to play as either a shadowy aspect of the Space Marine force or the brutal and bloodthirsty forces of Chaos. Leading the Space Marines we have a new Librarian model.
This Librarian, who looks like a total badass, by the way, is leading a force of Eliminators as they look to hunt down the foes of the Emperor. Take a look at these new power armoured snipers as they get a bead on the enemy.
It is nice to see an evolution of the Space Marine Scout as we take further steps towards the entire Space Marine range becoming Primaris. I know a few people will lament this but it makes sense to me that they end up doing this.
The artwork shows off a little more of what's coming for the Space Marine side of things, these dirty fighters taking some cues from their foes in the name of the Emperor.
On the Chaos side of things they're finally seeing the update, they deserve with the traditional traitors getting themselves an upgrade worthy of those that turn their hand to dispatching the servants of the False Emperor.
Led by the Master of Possessions that we've already seen before in previous previews we're also seeing some rather monstrous additions to the army including a new take on Obliterators...
...and this crazy looking piece of kit, the Venomcrawler. Things are looking a lot more 'DOOM' for the forces of Chaos which is a good pool of inspiration to draw from of course as those demons look utterly awesome.
More is set to be revealed for the Shadowspear Battlebox in due course giving you a peek at the other warriors caught up in this conflict for both the Space Marines and Chaos Space Marines. Additionally, another big character is coming back to the fore...
Not quite the Primaris Lieutenant you were expecting, right?
Adepta Sororitas Incoming
We got more news on what's happening with the Adepta Sororitas as we took a peek at another of their miniatures in the works.
2019 is meant to be the year of the Sisters Of Battle so I hope we get to see more news on what's happening with them in the months to come.
Will you be picking up Shadowspear?

Pretty excited by this!
I collect both forces, so after a few months of nothing for me to buy this will make sure I dont feel left out!
The Eliminators will be very interesting to see I think! 🙂
For sure, glad that GW is doubling down on going through the Space Marines and replacing a lot of the old stuff. Space Marine Scouts are a cool kit but I think those Eliminators are looking ace. It’s a good step in the right direction!
for sure!! Proper camo cloaks too!
I’m just not sure what to make of that big Venomcrawler thing! maybe will grow on me!!
Still not sold on the Primaris Marines. Not in the slightest…
But Chaos? Oh my! That’s some seriously nice models. They’re obviously chaos, but they’re not overflowing with unnecessary detail and fake smoke / slime like the Plague Marines were.
Well damn. Time to start saving…
for a moment I read “tome to start starving” XD oh dear me 😉
Well…. I mean you not WRONG or anything…..
I also read it as @sundancer said with ‘starving’ if that helps
New Chaos Space Marines? Yes please! It’s also nice to see little bit what SoB are going to get.
So Abbaddon moonlights as I Primarius Leiutenant ???? I knew he had to a second job ! I knew it!!!!! Those Black Crusades aren’t cheap to run you know …………
The camo paintwork on those Marines is stunning!
This is precisely why I have no savings!
The Librarian is my favourite. I think it is a new idea and role. Not every Librarian needs to be a blue armoured ‘hey look at me’ walking target. While the Eliminiators are a new take on scouts, the Librarian is a new variant on something already there but takes it in a cool new direction.
Totally agree! Super excited to see how he pans out rules wise! I wasnt sure about the cloaks but I think they have grown on me
@milmaa I like the cloaks but I’d do the entire squad in camo or darkened colours.
Nice stealth clothes sergeant!
Thanks Captain!
…..Why is your armour still bright blue/yellow/red?
You left out a pic of the coolest of them all, the Master of Possessions.
I’m from the AOS side of things, but that new 40K fig rocks so hard I’m going to find some way to work him into my armies too!
For recruit a gamer month i have wanted to bring in my wife. Although she has expressed interest in the past i felt i needed just the right minis for her to sync with…..step up “SORORITAS!!”
Ooh the scouts look way better than the original ones.
I haven’t played 40k in a few years and models like these make me miss it. I’d have to start upgrading my marines to primaris, but those eliminators look pretty cool. I wasn’t a Chaos marine player, but I always like seeing good models. That new Obliterator looks beast. The feet makes me think that this Obliterator was a space marine centurion at some point.
Liking the new models for both sides, I much prefer the new Obliterators over the old ones
Well played with the Abaddon misdirect, Games Workshop, well played indeed.
All those minis look great to me, but I particularly like the new Primaris models. The way the camo cloaks are cut to fit around the power armour (as are the Librarian’s gauntlets and brigandine) is a great little touch. I also think the Eliminators really look the part of Astartes snipers, infiltrators and assassination specialists. Given how difficult special operations are, it is good to see the Astartes range begin to put some more experienced hands into that fields rather than relying principally on neophyte scouts. And as someone who has a particular soft spot for the already sneaky… Read more »
Wow I don’t think a single model has let me down this time. I’m liking what I’m seeing this time around.
“Here. Throw this tarp over your armor. They’ll never hear you coming.” 😛 😛 😛
@warzan How many pieces do you suppose these cloaks are? 😀 😉 😀
This will probably finally make me dip my toe back into 40k. Have an old scout based Raven guard force and these models are just perfect!
The old scout models are showing their age, with there “kick me between the legs” stance. These are much more modern sculpts.
Similarly the librarian model is amazing. A lot of SM characters are “in your face” look at me vibe. This is much more “not by strength, through guile” vibe that I love.
What was Warzan saying about GW resurgence the other week? With models like this I can see why. Simply gorgeous sculpts.
Oh and there has been speculation on what else will be in the SM side of the box set. They will need some firepower to deal with the obliterator and spider thing what ever that is. Id love to see a new landspeeder as again that’s a model that’s been around for eons and could benefit from a “primaris” resculpt.
I haven’t kept up with all the fluff changes, but the description of these new snipers sounds like the light Primaris troops with pistols and knives… What’s the difference? (Besides their weapons?)
Still, they all look really, really good, even though I’m still not much of a fan of cloaks on models.
And I’m very glad to see they’re no longer saying a job as difficult and important as scouting and sabotage is being given to new recruits!
Apparently the Reivers are meant to be fast-moving terror troops disrupting command & control behind enemy lines, not really true recon troops at all. So that still allows the scouts something to do.
These releases will be the ones to push me over the edge of starting a Primaris Kill-Team. Wow! I thought I’d said my good-byes to GW some years ago, but they do keep making some beautiful models. And their new, smaller sized games are looking great too.
