Roadmaps For Warhammer 40K, Age Of Sigmar & More
August 29, 2024 by brennon
Games Workshop put together a series of roadmaps for what's coming up for Warhammer 40,000, Warhammer Age Of Sigmar, Warhammer: The Old World and Warhammer: The Horus Heresy. These are "loose" to be generous but there were some little snippets of information to be drawn from the roadmaps that came out during this week's reveal.

As you can see, the roadmaps were more of a look back at what has come out rather than what's on the horizon (in any great detail). We did get some information though on the right of the image. Astra Militarum will kick off 2025 with Blood Angels seeing out 2024 (that seems a LONG time between releases). Anyway, the Astra Militarum release will be Death Korps Of Krieg focused and the well-loved regiment of the Imperium will be getting new miniatures to round out the infantry that are already on offer.
We also know that Games Workshop are going to finish off the Aspect Warriors missing from the Aeldari revamp with their last Codex (Swooping Hawks!) and Imperial Knights are going to be stomping back onto the battlefield with a new Codex during 2025.

There is also a roadmap for Warhammer Age Of Sigmar...

This contained a little bit more information but was also a bit confusing. Skaven, Stormcast Eternals and now Slaves To Darkness will be the focus of Battletomes as we finish off 2024. It's good to see that the forces of Chaos get a look in.
2025 will see more Spearheads and Army Boxes which is interesting alongside something for Death. How nebulous. There will be new Spearheads for Destruction focusing on the Orruk Warclans and Gloomspite Gitz. These will be to introduce the Ironjawz into the mix and perhaps give the Gitz an alternative option. Then "all factions" which could mean literally anything.
Warhammer: The Old World Roadmap
If you'd prefer The Old World, Games Workshop also laid out the path forward for armies in 2024 and 2025.

You'll be able to pick up Warriors Of Chaos soon capping off 2024 and then as the new year rolls around, The Old World will welcome two more factions to the game with new plastic and resin miniatures as well as re-released sets from the archives. The Empire Of Man will be first followed by the High Elves. That White Lions Of Chrace army is looking more and more like a possibility.
Warhammer: The Horus Heresy Roadmap
Last but not least, we also got a look at what's coming for Warhammer: The Horus Heresy...

This roadmap was even harder to follow than the others! There is a tease of some other factions waiting to join the fray in 2024 and then "more stuff" coming in 2025 with a very general set of previews. More tanks are on the way but it seems like the vast majority of people would prefer more infantry. At least they are looking to release more each month to supplement armies, be it in epic-scale or 28mm.
Did you get excited about any news from these roadmaps? I am most excited by more Aeldari stuff popping up and whatever comes to Spearhead and Warhammer Age Of Sigmar!

I cant say that I was excited by any of that, the only thing that caught my eye was “major reveal just over the darkening horizon” for Legions Imperialis but they cant say what it is yet.
Yeah, that’s all that I’m looking forward to, as well. I was really excited about Old World, but that’s fizzled as GW botched releases and made too many “made to order” only. FOMO? No. Pass.
A friend of mine told me was building an Empire force for TOW with primarily Perry plastics and a few printed pieces.
Usually I’m more of a purist concerning IPs as other ranges seldom really match the style and spirit. But this felt just right. Sadly such stunts were less convenient with other armies due to the lack of ace plastic sets of such fitting looks at very affordable prices. E.g. for High Elves.
100% Perry would work as Empire – and once could deep-dive with their plastics, there are so many to choose from.
Hope no one (Ben) had to get up early to watch that. A bit of a waste of time as they didnt even show the roadmaps!
I was up at 2am…and then went to bed regretting my life choices.
I’m surprised by my own interest in AoS these days…
Spearhead seems quite promising. The fixed force composition is a bit of a strain for me (like to choose my own units). So I love different Spearheads per sub faction.
The Darkoath Spearhead ought to be tempting. Also Iron Jaws beside the skinny bog Orcs.
And the nebulous Death project got me interested.
Age Of Sigmar is awesome – I have been recharged in my hobby painting and playing AoS recently.
Ironically, I think the Old World failure to launch properly has made me consider Age of Sigmar… using the classic minis, probably. Something I’m considering. Although, with my painting room occupied for 2 months, I have a LOT of ideas – as one does when one cant execute them!
Sounds a bit familiar. The last weeks I feel I’ve gone full circle back and forth and then some. The Perry Empire idea brought me to TOW, to Skaven (I suppose influenced by our recent Death on the Reik p&p advances and the new plastics), then to the New AoS, from there to the way back when Skaven (reading up on old Andy Chambers articels and adding the Skaven Supplement to my WHFB 4th / 40K 2nd edition collection) and old school small scale armies, back to AoS Spearhead, thinking about building a bunch with Old/Middle Hammer miniatures, again to… Read more »
I honestly thought it was going to be the Elves, either High or Wood, that would be the next to come from Old World.
Glad to be proven wrong.
As a man who may or may not be obsessed with Primarchs (as you may or may not have noticed via my Golden Button winning project on the topic – shameless self congratulatory pat on the back here) I was disappointed there wasn’t even a mention of any new models coming – my wallet however was delighted.
This wasn’t a road map so much as a hastily drawn doodle on the back of a napkin from someone you asked for directions…
