Black Library has released two new anthologies to help introduce newcomers to the backgrounds of Warhammer 40,000 and Age of Sigmar.

Go On Crusade

Delving into the 41st millennium, we have the anthology Crusade and Other Stories.

Crusade and Other Stories

Featuring thirteen short stories and a new novella, each of the stories included has been chosen to introduce new players to the various factions and style of fiction of Warhammer 40k.

This includes a fight between the Ultramarines and the Death Guard, as well as the various other aliens and Imperial forces of the future.

It's Hammerhal Time

For the Age of Sigmar, we have the collection Hammerhal & Other Stories.

Hammerhal and Other Stories

This collection also features a novella, as well as short stories and novel extracts. On the one hand, it is good to get a look at novel extracts to see if you'd fancy reading on. On the other hand, I always get very frustrated that the rest is missing.

Short story collections like these provide a good taster for the settings and help you get an idea of the different factions.

I am hesitant about the Age of Sigmar background, but it was recently described to me as akin to 80's hair metal, something which has rather peaked my interest.

This may well be a good way for me to get stuck into the game at last.

Do you think you will pick up either of these?
