Raglan Builds An Epic Warhammer 40,000 Battle-scape
February 12, 2016 by brennon
We got some fantastic looking images through from Gareth who has created a rather wonderful looking Raven Guard Army. He has decided to turn a 14ft by 6ft gaming area into a massive battleground for playing out Horus Heresy-era battles and for that he needs lots of ruins...
The terrain was all grabbed from Tony Bragg of Bragg Miniatures and allowed him to quickly add some fantastic pieces to the tabletop without any painting on his part. Bragg supplies great terrain-scapes which are all ready to go on the tabletop.
There is a lot more in the works I would imagine but I think this is a great looking set of terrain for use in Warhammer 40,000 and 30,000. Interestingly I think this reminds me of a multiplayer level from Space Marine where you had to take on hordes of Orks.
One of the main things that draws you to terrain like this is that the buildings haven't just been dropped onto a board. The extra effort involved in adding some more detail around the base of the ruins means that they look like they belonged there in the first place.
I particularly like the ruins around the big archways that form the entrances to the building. It looks like something big blasted its way inside these Gothic ruins. But, that's not all...
Dam Busting
As well as these ruins Gareth also got a massive Hydro Dam made by David Marshal of TM Terrain. This is the chap who helped build the Agincourt diorama/battlefield that the Perry twins had at the Tower of London. This stretches the entire 6ft across the board with some extended cliff faces.
This is incredibly impressive and I love the big gun emplacements atop it. I think this would be great for objective games and I could see some teams with jump packs landing on the drainage channels built into the front of the dam if they were daring enough.
Big props to Gareth for getting this terrain together and it means we're going to have to step up our game when it comes to building tables for Warhammer 40,000 I reckon. Let us know in the comments below what you think of this tabletop and the terrain involved.
What ideas do you have for big epic Sci-Fi boards?

That terrain is simply amazing. It makes me wish I had even a quarter of the talent to be putting out kit that looks like that 😀 .
forget talent … I wish I had the space to even dream about either buying or building something like that.
Id love a table like that, but no room lo
Beautiful table! I wish I’d room (and skill) to build me something like that.
The fortified dam is ‘damn’ impressive.
Love it, brilliant, first class.
Great looking terrain 🙂 ……But that Raven Guard Army is very impressive.
