I’ve just looked at the pictures and i love it. I’ve been thinking of doing something like this with Perry miniatures ( or whatever i can find that’s in true(r) scale hard plastic / resin ). I think the weapon kit bashes are working very well. These would look great with a random lone Primaris. ( Finally Space Marines might actually get to look like Space Marines. )
For the final video I will have to bring in my Stone Templars or our Astral Knights then 🙂
Oh yes please. Superb Mr. Lyons.
The flamer is, by far, the most 40K looking mini in the group. I think the weapon upgrade pulls the theme together much better than the other mods I’ve see so far. Well done!
Totally agree. When I first put the flamer together it felt like everything clicked for me.
Everything is a process. Sometimes it takes something happening that advances the process in leaps and bounds. I’m hoping that you have just found it.
Great Flamethrower conversion and good idea to wire the backpack with the Hellguns.
The flamer guy is absolutely astonishing. This conversion says so much 40k than no other. But I think the bayonets once painted will look good, too.
I’m not sure about the muzzle breaks though. Maybe you can make them work but for me they look a bit out of place or not “integrated” enough (don’t know if it translates correctly to English).
I think those muzzle breaks will look more ‘natural’ once there is a bit of primer on the model to unify the look of the model.
The flamethrower guy looks great. My only critique is, that the head of the flamethrower seems a bit heavy, so the whole weapon looks a bit topheavy.
The idea with extra muzzles für the Hellguns is also very good looking and if you add some cables, it would make a great Hellgun.
I love the flamer, however I’m not so sure about the other infantry at the moment.
Interesting stuff, when I am making spears I always glue the shaft and insert the spear tip on top rather than trying to fill the hole saves having to redrill if you get distracted at the wrong point.
Wow, there is a lot of awesome to talk about in this vlog! 😀 How about in order of increasing awesomeness: – I really like the extra long lances and pennants. 40K is exaggerated reality, everything is taken to its maximum and then taken another 20% further. That level of excess is the main part of its visual appeal. The “short” pennant does look more realistic than the “long” pennant. It looks like a reasonable length, it’s in a sensible historic proportion, It looks reasonably, sensibly boring. The long lance and long pennant have that 120% look that achieves that… Read more »
I was that guy xD Wasn’t thinking about the horseman, but whatever, the conversion looks sweet! I think you nailed it.
Love this proyect, all is coming great together. Keep the great job John!
Great work sir.
The muzzle is a nice touch. Don’t think it needs to be attached to the pack any where. The flamer is a brilliant looking conversion. I like the model so far and I am sure with the gapage tidied it will paint up lovely.
The bayonet and the odd guard flask, grenade or pack will look great.
Initially was worried about how you would drag these metal models out of the 18th / 19th century but I think it’s well on the way.
I couldn’t cut out pennants like that, not without measuring, just couldn’t do it 😀
As for the infantry conversions, the flamer is great, the lasgun “tip” looks great. Not sure about the bayonet.
As for cabling the rifle to a back pack, my only concern is that the straps (slings?) on the rifles might get in the way and look a bit awkward interfering with the cable.
Have you considered using something like an ax blade on the rifles instead of a bayonet? At least with the stormtroopers. Imo, that marine knife (well, short sword for any one else) is a little too massive looking. You should have plenty of dwarf sprues around to arm up your squad(s). Sticking the blade down from the barrel would remove the need for placing the “bayonets” free of the barrel bores.
The flamer looks great and distinctive.
Love the flamer! Also like the addition of the lasgun tip. I think I would go with a power cord going to the backpack bit that’s already on the model.
I like the long pennants but some short ones makes sense. The flamer conversion is awesome, can’t wait to see the final product all painted up. I do worry about the bayonets during game-play, plastic to metal has always been a pain for me, I would hate to see them used in a BR and someone snap the blades off by mistake. Have you thought of adding a few faces/masks conversion? I know some of the kits(Command Sprue) had gas-masks that you can glue on. Or drill out and eye and put in the small scopes or the end of… Read more »
That flamer conversion is absolutely awesome!
Like the las gun end on the rifles too, still not sure about the flintlock above the trigger, I’d still lean towards snipping them off to make it look more flat and square like.
Definitely need to run two lines side by side next to each other for the hell guns!
Flamer conversion looks really good. The bayonet looks a little too bulky for the rifle. I do like the added muzzle break on the grenadier, some cabling to the backpack would start to make it more Sci-Fi.
I was wondering could you ask Lloyd to do some pennant designs in photos hope for you like he did on the team Yankee Russian buildings from the boot camp
they are looking great have you/anyone used Guitar strings as armoured cables john but don’t know if its cost effective.
I have use them before. I enjoy the look of them. I would have used some but trying to source my materials from inside the studio 🙂
its always good to economise with what is at hand this makes them more personal.
Hey John could you do a little comparison of these awesome looking dudes next to standard guard models. I really want to make some Vostroyan Cavlary on horseback but from what I’ve read the horses are a little small for the models. Would love to know if your minis are a good scale. Failing that I’m sticking em on bears haha Great update too man love the project so far.
I will add one to Wednesday post 🙂
Nice! Some good conversion work here. I really like the flamer dude, but I would run both cables down under the arm. Yes, the barrel bit and running a cable around onto the back for the grenadier would be a good conversion for the hotshot lasgun – guitar string would be particularly good for this. I like the bayonet conversion – anything to get the muskets to look more sci-fi… SCOPES!
the flamer conversion is beyond expectations. brilliantly creative. as for the lances and pennants, both standard and OTT work for me. yes to the muzzles for the grenadiers. the wire feed for them needs serious thought, each troop will undoubtable look better but you may end up with too much which could leave the excellent work on the flamer getting lost in the unit. i’d probably do it, as I feel a power pack with some of that plasma glow effect of yours would work wonders. i’d keep it to a single feed and have them fairly short in comparison… Read more »
The flamer conversion is amazing, also the lasgun muzzles really “elevate” these into sci-fi. This is my favorite vlog you’ve done so far John!
That flamer is fantastic, to me it really starts to get them looking like proper guardsmen. Like some people have mentioned I’d see about clipping off the flintlock-ish bits, they stick out. With that they wouldn’t look out of place in the grim dark at all; I’m sure the fluff mentions that guard gear uses readily available local resources including wood. For the storm troopers I like the idea of repeating the wire trick and perhaps adding a few scopes, purity seals and so forth (storm troopers would surely show a little more individuality in gear customization).
I like what you have done with the conversion
Looking good. Flamer is great. Lasgun end is cool but wouldn’t do the cable to the backpack. Maybe instead to a little clip underneath the gun.
Don’t like the knife. It looks to big and out of place.
