I love the new direction. The heavy weapons would be a great addition… especially with the historical undercarriage (if I understood it correctly).
Adding flamers is also a great idea. They are really nasty… if you are on the receiving end.
Let the creatively flow. I look forward to seeing the las cannon conversion, and flames. I think while you might get a little frustrated, you will be happy with the end product.
The only frustration I will have is in my own ability to pull off my ideas. But hey! That’s how we learn 🙂
And you might only get frustrated if you go deep into conversions.
I’m happy to see you explore new ideas, and that the project is evolving and developing into something that I hope to see in a future game play vid!
I love making conversions, I’m the kind of guy that turns a great model into pieces just to change the pose or something, but I need to take a better look at those minis before saying something, because maybe what you want is something as easy as attaching a flamepistol to a rifle (instead of a bayonet) than cut out the rifle from the mini to put the flamethrower. If I were you, i’d look for some poses where they have a very horizontal grip on the rifle, and try the space marine or catachan heavy flamer style, with a… Read more »

I mean, that is just a lance that throws fire… xD
Holy Smokes what a cool idea mounted flamer men of death! @johnlyons
Bless ya John,
I feel like the community have bullied you in to doing more work! Myself included 😉
Do you know, honestly, its because of you guys making so many suggestions that it is pushing me to do something more impressive. I’m looking forward to seeing it finished and resplendent.
Glad to hear it! Can’t wait to see the finished force also 🙂
It’s looking good, nice to see you pushing your comfort zone again, really like the idea of heavy weapons teams in the army as well. I would think that if there is a bit of death korps in your mentality that you could give yourself a bit more freedom in what parts you look to convert with.
Death korps always had a WW1 feel to me from their gas masks and the very few bits of fluff I’ve seen about the wars they fought in so I think that @kamaron has a great idea in using WW2 flamenwerfers.
Awesome and flamers will look very cool. I am also probably a bigger conversion guy than anything else in this hobby. Don’t forget that small amounts of green stuff can really hide joins on your conversion work if it does not fit exactly right! I converted a Krieg Heavy Weapon crew member and and Krieg engineer into a sniper team with cloaks and green stuff was my best friend! Agree with Kamaron above on the best flamers to use for this project. I think I actually have an extra forge world Krieg banner topper that would look great on that… Read more »
Oops, it’s a Black Templar Dreadnought back banner, not Krieg.
🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 John is officially a hobby god, give that man a bag.
the army is conceptually brilliant and taking it to the next level is absolutely the right way to go.
there will be blood, there will be sweat and there will be tears but we’re with you all the way. takes balls to step outside your comfort zone, respect.
As I mentioned over on the post about the cav, it would be cool to mix in, or have a full unit, riding some more exotic beast rather than a horse. I know that in the fluff they rode horses but it would look way less Napoleonic to have some riding other creatures and now that you are going deeper into conversion work this could really spice things up.
Enjoying the extra investment you are putting in buddy I believe it is the extra changes we make that make armies truly ours so I hope Warren has fully briefed you up on what he wants John 😀
Try a Cadian Mortar on the end of the brass Cavalry Pole! Boom, shaped charge.
Yes. Yes. Yes. More converion work. This is a good turn. It will make it look much more 40k. I used the Elysian weapon pack from Forge World for my special weapons.
I’m looking forward to the banner because I don’t know how I can do that.
I think this army list is better, loving the new squads and additional heavy weapons, really enjoying see this army coming together
C’mon, it’s 40K. Make them as cheesy and OP as possible. All kidding aside, you never played 1st through 3rd editions where conversion was the only way to get what you wanted. Anyone remember the space marine scout armed with an autocannon? No, because GW just forgot to give that option anymore. When they offered bits by the gram or ounce was the best time to go to a GamesDay. It is great that GW offers every bit on the sprues nowadays, but you have to buy lots more than you need and multiple copies as well. The Banner, well,… Read more »
