Are you…. are you… going to drill out the gun barrels?
*runs for cover*
Kidding aside, does filler primer not reduce some of the smaller details like panel lines? I don’t play 40K and I’ve not seen much in the way of Forge World models with the occasional exception for ones shown on BoW. That looks like quite a chunk of resin. Is the body hollow? How are you planning to tie in the tank to the infantry? Just thematic colors and insignia? Will that be enough to draw everything together? This is an interesting project, and I am really looking forward to seeing how this comes together. I suspect it will be a… Read more »
not really, its more for filling joins so as long as your careful/acurate when spraying it on you wont loose too much and you just sand it back, technically halfords grey primer is a filler primer, same process and techniques (just smaller) as car body and paint repair.
Vallejo & Stynylrez/UMP primer (same thing both made by badger different stickers) can be used as a filler primers, although tamiya’s and mr surfacer are both speciality primers designed for joins and seams filling. If all else fails you can get all scale model builder and rescribe any panel lines you fill….
neglected to mention that it self levels which why john will be able to remove the mold texture from the FW resin by using it first before a traditional primer, so by building a layer or 3 up the surface imperfections get filled, with the final layer giving a uniform finish
Bingo! And all fantastic information form you! Am I going to drill the barrels? No, I’m painting them black come hell or high water 😛
OK that’s it, Now I have to go in and finish painting my Macharius Vanquisher.
Mine was completed up to a city camo pattern, but as usual I got sidetracked with other projects. Just went back last night and looked at it, I haven’t even painted the tracks yet. Bad Krieg Commander I am.
Looking forward to your techniques as I try to do mine in tandem. I’ll start tonight after work!!
I’ll try to take some pics before and after and share them.
Having not done this before where is the best place to put the photos on BOW?
Yo, Silver! If you want to post photo’s for us to check out then hit the painting and hobby section on the forums. Either drop them into the What are you painting now, or make your own topic and drop a link either to me in a message or on a comment here 🙂
@johnlyons. Just posted it in WAYPN.
Now that’s a bit of a beast.
Looking at the video and the cutting mat you are using all the colours and stains built up on the bottom left corner of the cutting made me think it has a setting on. It looks like a concrete themed industrial gaming section of a mat.
Will you be adding any of the usual tank accessories/ kit to it that you often see on WW2 tanks?
If those are smoke stacks at the back it would be good to see you try some smoke effects as there is just the one smoke belcher in the force.

@noyjatat im considering modifying an ecig and a miniature peristaltic pump to make essentially a miniature smoke machine, probably easiest to build into some terrain, but if the tank is big enough no reason why it couldnt be housed inside the hull…
@nakchak would you need to suck on the barrels?
You could get a cheap smoke engine from a model railway set. They have built in fans already and some would be able to fit into something the size of a Russ or something bigger.
true, i just figure it would give me something to do with spare parts from defunct vape atomisers and foul tasking e-liquid 😉
Currently my old coils get used as objective markers and techno widgets in terrain
That track gap would drive me mad!
Would probably pack it with milliput and spend as long as has already been spent prepping it getting it perfect, its no wonder i never get anything finished lol 😉
muddy tracks for the win
@noyjatat its a shame its not really practical to add after market tracks to most kits on the market, especially some of the higher end mini’s out there i.e. FW, main reason why i dont buy many of the big GW kits would rather give my money to tamiya and similar companies as it more about the assembly and modelling than the gaming with vehicles for me
stuff like this would be great:
