Not a lot of resin, mostly Dystopian Wars armor. A lot more of Mantic’s “Restic”. I’ve never touched anything by Forge World, though.
Cool army project John ! I also toyed with the idea of creating a custom astra militarum army. My idea was converting a bretonian army into a 40K army. That was until I realise that I still have a lot of painting and converting to do for a current army project.
Hi John
Richard Abbott is a fantastic Painter that front rank use for there online presence

These are of his web site for the Calvary but his infantry are on the front rank web site I own one of the sets of infantry painted by Richard
They look great, thanks for the link : )
They are really nice. thanks for that, that’ll help with some colour choices.
I’ve built a hell of a lotta Forge World models, both my own and those for friends who don’t feel up to it. It can be a real pain but I do enjoy it and FW DO make amazing kits!
I’ve always wanted a Mecharius for myself but I never took the plunge on one. This is starting to change my mind.
The only thing that “bothers” me is the actual guns. It does not look very sci-fi to me. Maybe putting the muzzle of a regular lasrifle on to the end of them maybe it would help with that? I’ve been working with a few kits and it can sometimes be tricky to get the mould release off the model. The sad part is that you only find out if you’ve screwed up once it’s basically too late unless you want to strip them down and do it again. With a big kit like that it can be a hard process… Read more »
After revisiting the video, I agree that they don’t look very sci-fi. But that works for me well. I surely would love to play against the prussonians.
I really gave the kit a good scrubbing in the warm water. So I am confident that it’s either all off or mostly off. I am taking some time while working on the Mecharius to look more into what I could potentially do to increase the sci-fi aspect of the models 🙂
Are you considering a prussionian tank commander that you could magnetise on top. I would love to see some flamer conversions for the troops, and heavy weapon teams would be great, you could have some horse drawn lascannons/autocannons, Victoria miniatures do some nice conversion pieces
Horse-drawn heavy weapons are a great idea!
Would you be able to see if you could attach a grenade launcher to one of the figures
Done multiple FW super heavy tanks your’re doing it the way I do it but I use a nail brush as it has more bristles and covers a wider area. Key to getting all of he mold release is checking crevices after it dry’s. Usually I have not had any problems once I check it closely and wash a 2d time, marking areas that need a second wash with a pencil. Infantry look good, would be hard to mod the guns I think, maybe a simple way would be to snip off the firing mechanism on the top of the… Read more »
I wonder if anyone makes plastic World War 1 figures that would be easier to convert into 40K Imperial Guard. Sorry I still refuse to call them Astra ……….!
I’ve just gone and priced up a 1000pt Pretorian army from Victoria Miniatures… Ouch almost £400 🙁
I should really dig out my metal ones and finish them at some stage. If I do I’ll definitely add the lancers to it
I’ve had problems with the mould release stuff as well on Forge World kits. Some warm water with washing up liquid and an old tooth brush to scrub the undercuts and crevices should do the trick, otherwise they can get really frustrating when the paint starts flaking off.
washing the parts is important.
It’s all about the tanks, eh? 😛
