Looking good! DIY transfers are a pain. I’ve gone down to a printing shop before and used their $10k+ printers to print them out before. They have a very nice resolution that is difficult to get on a $100 printer. I also can’t wait to see what you do with the bases, but I suspect that if they are dark, it may be difficult to offset the dark blue of the uniforms, but that can be difficult to discern on a video versus in person.
@johnlyons On Friday i posted you a little present John. I Print waterslide Transfers and i print white ink, I’ve sent you some of my sample sheets to play with, if you want any made up for this project feel free. i would love your feedback on them as i hope if feedback is good i may make this an available product i can sell to everyone out there that want individual custom transfer sheets. i hope it will get to you soon on first class from Surrey (was hoping you would of got them before this Video). Love the… Read more »
Awesome! I will totally give you some feedback on them. And yeah the pennants will get something. Most likely numbering and the odd symbol.
the eagle is spot on. never made my own transfers so this ones an eye opener for me. nice choices with the artillery. they’re looking better and better with every layer of detail. laughed my arse off when you said you went home and started a display piece. i said it sounded like you needed a break but then started writing an alternative counter intuitive second option but ran out of time so deleted what i’d wrote and kept it simple. i discovered this after i painted KD:M 54mm x-mas twilight knight, have you seen how many lanterns are up… Read more »
I’ll bring it in and show you on tomorrows vid probably 🙂
that looks great I think the full red shield would work great on the tank with eagle for the standards n the like.
It sounds like you painted quite a bit after you listed it all off. 😛
I’m just starting to play around with printing my own decals myself. I glad you mentioned the issues involving inkjet printers. It explains some the issues I’ve noticed which I put down to novice mistakes.
I’ll know now to have more confidence in myself and keep a closer eye on my printer’s capabilities and limitations. 😀
I have the paper with the film already on it.. it works pretty well. They do come out a bit darker then I wanted and the paper is a wee bit thick so you have to trim it way down if you can.
I have always wondered about DIY transfers …. Thanks John this was worth the price of admission…. Particullarly the bit about different types of paper and how they are used . cheers.
The Pattern you’ve come up with is excellent and will fit those models well
Like the pattern you came up with
Looking at the tank again, it needs something to break up the blue in the front and center of the tank. How about white barrels for the main gun?
Hi , nothing to declare…. Looking good, John.
I would like to say what would the eagle look like in silver or metal colour … just throwing something out there.
@johnlyons Kinda late to this video. But I have used testors waterslide transfer sheets for years. Both white and clear. Not hard to work with and the clearcoat spray is never an issue for me. key is to spray it quickly and lightly three times with about 5 mins between sprays in a nice warm room (with the window open of course!). I’ve done loads of them and if you spray it four times lightly you will ensure the ink does not run. Love them. I have 4000 points of Death Korps of Krieg covered in decals!!!
