Is this entire series going to be this face?
Do you mean that look of “I have no idea what I have gotten myself into?” then yes 😉
Just a reminder, you have a working 3D printer now for more packs, bags and sundries!
Some sci-if flotsam and jetsam on the bases might be another way to sprinkle 40k dust over these models.
The models look very nice. If I had the time, I’d like some of these myself. Justin’s coverage of Sharp Practice has intrigued me.
My heart is bleeding seeing a Landwehr soldier with a ‘Voxcaster’ to be honest..oh well, let’s see how it pans out..
I think you need to do a little work on the rifles to 40k them up a bit. Maybe replace the bayonets with Space Marine or Chaos Space Marine combat knives if you have them. Add a scope to a rifle or two. Maybe you could add side mounted magazines to the rifles? Giving your officers chain or power swords might help too. Maybe a standard bearer or two.
I am totally going to do a standard of some description. I’ve waiting for an excuse to make some transfers in here for ages and this project is my time 🙂
I think you shouldn’t do anything with the rifles as I like the idea of them having a traditional look while still being made to look like some old guard from their history.
I agree with carlosfandango that having 40k accents on the base is a good way to go. Depending on the size of the transfer you have options incorporating more with them.
Poor Landwehr dude, he even got mixed up with the regulars… 🙁
The project is looking great though imo. Maybe here and there you could do a headswap or add in a bionic hand/arm/eye?
They would probably look great all weathered up in WW1 style mud. 🙂
This is a really interesting idea for an army you could add old style gatling guns for heavy weapons team and not sure if available but some WW1 old style tanks would look awsome. And some rocket teams like they had in Zulu Dawn film would also look good. Perry Miniatures have got some nice ranges you might find useful.
I have been looking at Perry miniatures for something 😉
Tease!
At 25 seconds this video disappeared!! Not sure if it’s my I phone or what. So annoying.
I’m very interested to see how this works out with truer scale soldiers and the heroicish W40K weapons. I’d also quite like to see how a Primarus looks next to them. Maybe you could have a Primarus special character associated with the army.
I’m so excited for you to explore this. I really love taking two dissimilar things, like Napoleonic figures and Imperial Guard, and making a whole new thing from them. Looking closer at the muskets, the mounting surface on the rifle scopes may be a little wide, but a quick trim should bring into shape. It may be that incidental accessory bitz will be your best friend: the smaller grenades, purity seals, random things that are usually too fiddly to be bothered with on a fig. (fortunately those bitz will still be lurking in the bottom of the bitz box) Perhaps… Read more »
This is a real learning curve for me. In the past I have relied on purpose-made bits for conversions or using what was already on a model. But now I have to really get to grips with the aesthetic I have picked. So expect me to fail in some areas but hey, we’re all learning right? 🙂
When you get to the cavalry, explosive tipped lances would be cool. Concur some chainsword conversions on officers (or even just painting a power effect) would 40k them up without too much effort.
I’ve been thinking of explosive-tipped lances. But the Death Corps don;t seem to have them rules wise. Heres a question to you Blue, what would you use for the explosive on the lance?
Very cool again. Id like to see some with special weapons.
Not sure how feasible it is, but if you can find enough plastic laser weapons with sci-fi scopes that you could remove and attach to the muskets? it would take the look a step away from Napoleonics but would be fairly time intensive.
i’d add some small elements to the guns that could accommodate glow effect. something like a a small box attached to the side to act as a power source. or add something to the end of the barrel that makes them look like ray guns. a coil on the barrel with a dish on the end for a retro sci fi look that would be very cool. and order some extra infantry to finish those squads off, perfect excuse to add special weapons. even if you don’t do anything with the rifles do a weapons swap for these at the… Read more »
I like what I see so far, I agree with adding the bits and bobs on the bases and a few items to alt up the soldiers.
Can’t wait to see how the Painting scheme works, I love the very classic look the Prussian army had and it will be interesting to see how they look in a 40k style.
Joining this late, but since the Death Korps has been my primary 40K army since I got into 40K I think this is an absolutely awesome idea!!! I have toyed with the same idea at times and did incorporate a 10 man Dreamforge Stormtrooper unit into my army as an allied guard unit once, but never thought about going this route. As I think on it, Foundry make some great Bavarian Franco Prussian War models too that would be great to try the same thing with. I love the helmets they have! Hmmmm! I think self printed transfers are a… Read more »
I like your Vox caster idea. I will totally do that! 🙂
is there any reson you didnt go with plastic napoleonics?
Love to see some heavy weapon teams , do frontline do cannon crews that can be firing lascannons
was that corporal jones you picked up?
In a past life as a Prussian before he began his career as a German spy lodged in a small town as a butcher to ensure he got all the local gossip?
Do I need a tinfoil hat now?
Awesome idea for an alt guard regiment. Looking sweet so far. Only thing I think really needs to be sorted is the (las)rifles. Yes the Vostroyan first born are known for using antiquey looking guns but they are still very identifiable as lasguns due to the powerpacks and winged skulls on them. Could you manage to somehow add a las power pack to the Prussians muskets to …lasify them? Great job so far @johnlyons
