For me, the tank is still too blue. The work to break it up helps tremendously, but there is still so much of one dark color on the body, that for me makes it lose depth and contrast. I’m happy to hear that there won’t be any dipping on this project. I concur that this custom army should get more attention.
That does break it up more! But might still be a little too blue fir me too, but will reserve final comment later. Trying to think of an idea to make it not so blue but can’t figure one out yet. I’ll mull it over some more. How are the pointed qtips working?
So looking at the picture on the post of the tank. Maybe break up the top of the hull by painting the two raised lines/bars black or even gold to match the turret. Something else like that and then the washes as suggested below should do the trick.
I think the Macharius looks great! Don’t think it looks too blue and the gold/ grey breaks it up enough. Some pin washes around the panels will give it some more definition though. Is there any plan to put this thing on a base? Could be a way to introduce some more desaturated colours and texture whilst still keeping it a focal point for the clean blue of the army.
I like the look of the tank much more now, the other colours do help to break it the blue, the washes should definately help give a bit more depth to some of the details.
Dip it, dip it good!
Sorry, couldn’t resist.
love the tank pin wash and the gold looks fabulous on the tank.
Blue and gold are fabulous. They really Draw the eye in. Thanks for doing this vlog. It’s great to log on and see a mini update every few days.
Not trying to heap it on here but I’d love to see an Age of Sigmar one down the line. Even a smaller one
the tank needs more cathedral-y-ness At the moment it is a very pretty tank, which is good much better from where you were the gold looks phenomenal needs more of that about. It looks much better over all. But as it stands it is just a very pretty tank not a cathedral. Find a lot of spare purity seals spray them the white, spray bone, sapia wash, dry brush bone, drybrush a lighter colour do the seals wash the seal bing bam boom a sheet of seals go to town with it. I would start washing now before you get… Read more »
another round of excellent decisions.
going with the washes is a big deal and it’s going to make a huge difference, well done @caledors mate. the dip is all well and good but it will never match the control and contrast of washes. get some black in that blue, it worked for Dallas if i remember rightly.
the tank looks much better now the contrasting colours are on there, all good choices too.
well done Az for the turret panels.
I think the tank looks better now and no matter what, with an object this size you are gonna get a lot off an single color. When the time comes to dirty it up, with washes and pigment powders you can add a lot of contrast and interest onto it, like Grime streaks, chipping and panel washes. Maybe if you’re adding a red stripe on the grey pants you could add a red outline on the grey panels. Keep up the good work!
this is a great vlog . dont rush it we all enjoying it! the tank its looking great. but id agree adding a little more gold to the central hull. maybe match the drivers hatch to the commanders with the ring of gold. also like the suggestion of the red stripe on some of the grey. even go as far with adding a red strip down the sides of the main gun barrels to draw you eye to them. are you thinking of painting the fuel barrels a different colour? if so red would be good but may draw the… Read more »
Red stripe Would be good. I think modelling purity seals would ruin it. Red barrels and more gold would be excessive imho, sometimes less is more
If you are going with the pin-washing then i would suggest getting the GW gloss washes. I use that all the time over a gloss coat when i do my pin washing/outlining and it works a treat.
This tank needs some RED!
