Could the gun carriages use a comm box and antenna instead of pennants? Something to use for coordinated fire?
That Dark Sky has went down well. I have found in the past that Dark Blue is a difficult colour to get right (especially Vallejo’s Dark Prussian Blue). Must get a pot.
Vajello flat blue is better blue I think. It’s easier to darken down in my opinion
@torros thanks for the tip. I’m pretty sure I had problems with a Game Colour dark blue, which is why I bought the Dark Prussian Blue. Didn’t seem to have much pigment and very transparent.
I didn’t like the Prussian blue myself . Just for info the flat blue is model colour 962
Liking the Colonel – looks a bit Capt’n Birdseye but that’s not a bad thing! Still think that the red on the cuffs would be a better choice for the rank and file, as it of-sets the skin better but it just comes down to personal preference
Glad I wasn’t the only one thinking that. Was just googling for the best likeness.
That blue is really good looking it’ll make the army pop quite a bit. For the las-cannons I wonder if a purity seal or two might look pretty cool; same reasoning as for the tank in that perhaps they’re one of the few bits of old tech handed on to them by the imperium.
Anyhow they’ve really come together with that primer down it’s going to be a sweet army.
Yeah, I think I’ll have to make the “heavier” gear look more revered.
I like the look of the colors. Good choices.
Big fan of the blue buddy. The officer is looking good, I think the skin is a little yellow for me though I would expect these guys to be a little more weathered and I think the grey is too weak against the other strong colour tones.
I like the blue too, very vibrant and almost has a purple hue to it.
Don’t forget to try the pointed Qtips I dropped off at Christmas for cleaning off paint that you get on a part you don’t want it on. I keep a handful on my painting tray so I can get it immediately before it starts drying!
I like the progress to date, and it’s great to see colours going down at last! I only have a couple of thoughts. I realise you’re trying to keep the colour boundaries neat, but surely a larger brush (with a good point on it) would be much, much quicker – even with a few touch ups I think you’d come out ahead time-wise. The other thought is that the blue is a bit saturated for my taste, but then again this is 40K 😀 I assume you’ll be using a wash / dip to tone them down a bit? Are… Read more »
I like the idea of the skin color but his face looks a bit waxy and flat, maybe it just doesn’t show up well on camera. 40K typically doesn’t do subtlety well and all the nuance is lost. The laspistol looks like flat featureless primer and I understand the idea that it might be because of the equipment shortage. But the Napoleonic era was the age of the military tailor and I can’t see unadorned primer being tolerated, at least not on the gear of any officer in good standing. If the shortages mean no paint is available, perhaps some… Read more »
I like the general in particular, the flesh colour looks better than the olive you were using, in fact it looks closer to the colour of your hand. The blue went down really well, my Prussian for Slaughterloo have a blue that is nearly black this looks so much better. I can’t wait to see this lot finished.
Idk, that blue is REALLY DARK and sort of flat looking to me.
The rest isn’t too bad except for the flat primer look of the las pistol.
Liking the colour choice, what colour will the tank be?
Have you thought about different colours for the cav and art crews?
the officer looks good to me john.
Really liking the look of this army so far, I was very dubious at first, but seeing it all primed it really does look the part. I am going to enjoy seeing the paint go down, like one of the earlier comet, I do hope you are going to use quick shade, perhaps if you have time one exaggerated high light on the upper most edges of the flesh, but I do think this a bit of a big ask considering how many figures you are painting, but it is something you could do in a few months time.
Looking good so far. Have to say I immediately thought Titanic when the test model was revealed.
I like it. I really like the blue on these guys a lot.
I would say make the hate just black, the grey for the hat isn’t working for me.
When you showed the (almost) entire army all zenithed, I thought, gee, the ghost army of Prussonia (or Johnsylvania).
Yeah man, Captain Birdseye is looking pretty damn good!
