Get your prefered skin tone recipes in early guys 😉 lol
I don’t get it? I must have missed too many Weekenders… I’m THREE months behind due to Police stuff and sleeping.. I know it’s shameful display! But I’ll get right back to those innuendo’s and erect mushrooms!
Battle Scribe @johnlyons ? Might have to get that again it.
Sorry @warzan, lol!
BTW Historical Meets Gritty Sci-Fi!!!!! (I’m in heaven lol)
Hi @Johnlyons,
Loving the idea of this and while its not my preferred scale its great to see a stalwart of the wargaming industry getting a mention – dear god I sound twice as old as I am!
Anyway, my only thought is why not something like Weapons bronze from AP – while I can see why you might want to go down a yellow/gold route, copper/bronze might give you the metallic you want to add in whilst keeping the more common (not researched so purely going of the 3-4 images you brought up there) red-ish cuffs and collars?
Not sure about the models at this early stage but I’m sure you will pull this off with your usual aplomb and turn this project into something magnificent to behold John 🙂
How do these minis scale next to existing IG? I think a few weapon swaps may also help them look more sci fi.
Looking forward to seeing how this comes together. I think at least one piece of large heraldry is a must. Also being a guard force I hope their will be a visible command structure with some form of ranks on the models. Whether this is pips, crowns and stripes, feathers in the caps or coloured sashes at their waists I am not sure. I hope you take the background a little further to take into account the breeding of their horses. Military units and homeworlds would probably have a limited and specialised breed based on function, aesthetics or both. I… Read more »
I was tossing up ditching the Dark Angels and starting a new Astra Militarum Army, but decided against it. Now I can live out that alternative timeline through this series! Huzzah!!
Skin… depends on what sort of skin type you’re looking for. Though recently I’m liking GW Zandri Dust for a base, Army Painter String To e for shade, relayer Zandri Dust. Highlight with Vallejo Khaki 70988
Very excited to see how this goes
I know very little about 40K armies, so I’m just along for the ride!
Love that you’ve got an army list already in mind as you start to put this together and the colour scheme looks awesome, can’t wait to see what you’ll do to translate that onto the armour 🙂 Az
Army lists tend to be the most fun part, much like designing characters 🙂
Great choice of models.
Choosing metal for a conversion project must present an extra challenge, but looking forward to this one.
Be intrigued to see how sci-fi you can make these without losing the Napoleonics esthetic. The gold collars etc. might help with that. If you want to expand the force a touch more, I think a unit of Militarum Tempests with the right colour scheme would be a cool.
Urgh..Napoleonic 40k Imperial Guard?! I don’t know guys..muskets in space?
Those poor Front Rank Prussians..
All metal as well..how to attach SF bits without major filing and reconstruction? Why add mag pouches when muskets haven’t any magazines?
I’d flog then on eBay or paint them as proper Prussians for the Waterloo project.
Get some plastic Victrix French or Brits or if it needs to Cavalry some Perry or even the new Gripping Beast Dark Age cavalry and sci-fi those up..!!
Oh well..a BOLD project.
BUT I’m happy to be impressed and will keep an open mind 😎
@johnlyons
Godspeed!
I didn’t think you would be sold on this idea 😛
The idea of the army is a light-footed approach to the conversion work. I don’t want to end up cutting, drilling and filling all over the place. I want it to be simple, fast and effective so I can make the paint job make them shine 🙂
I’m counting on your well established ability to work wonders with the paint man!
Otherwise I’ll end up like @avernos and will never ever be sober again..ever!!
😉
I saw them all laid out a couple of weeks ago and was “oh front rank naps I have some of them, stunning sculpts whose army is that?” then got the 40K news and I’ve not been sober since
Lol 🙂
Front Rank do some beautiful figures
I suppose this will be something similar to the Zulu War era figures GW did for 40k some years ago
Praetorian guard
Thems the ones. Cheers
@johnlyons Transfer work would be really good to see as I’ve been mulling the idea over for my Eldar but just not sure how practical it really is, so you wanting to explore that would be appreciated.
For me the weaponry is a big part of what would sell this army as a sci-fi force, and I’m not convinced a re-paint of muskets will do the job. Still, I’m hoping to be proven wrong! I’ll be enjoying the unfolding project either way.
Oh! this is one very interesting project. Don’t really have any suggestions, but looking very much forward to follow along.
Having issues playing this VLOG. It keeps stopping and then the dialogue plays without the images. Stopped it three times and it’s still doing the same thingy.
Dropped you a message 🙂 Az
Maybe adding the muzzle of the lasrifles the weapons will look scifi enough.
Love the idea, I think it wiil come togheter great 😀
Great project. Currently doing a alternative Imperial guard army myself. Using Mantic coopeation miniatures and putting the brody helm with gasmask on it from Anvil industries. Using the special weapons from the drop troop guys from Forge world. It’s going well. But I would love to see how you do the transver thing. Would be great for my tanks and company banners. I’ll be following this flog closely.
I played around with this concept around a hear ago with some rough riders for my valhallan troops. I really dont get them on the table enough. Looming forward to seeing what you do with these.
When you @johnlyons go for the yellow cuffs, then they will be 3rd company. In Prussian armies the colours told everyone from what unit you are. This system is still used in the Bundeswehr (unofficially).
I’m very excited to see where this will lead to.
This is Great!! This is the core of hobby for me. High concept for an army list, “Non-standard” or “unofficial” figures for the army, A little bit of converting and a smidge of “Counts As” and you have a great characterful army ready for all sorts of gaming in the gaps. @kamaron has a great idea that may work well. Cut the muzzle/flash suppressor off the lasguns (it is the most iconic part any way) and mount it on the muskets. Also, if you mount a scope on 2 or 3 out of 10 of the muskets that may sell… Read more »
I really enjoyed this! Great to see Guard who aren’t Cadian:)
huzzah its getting built finally ….. it only took a year
I have a Victorian themed guard army and put all the las cannons on gun carriages. Might look good on a napoleonic themed force. Depends how quirky you want them to look but they look good pulled by rough riders.
That’s a lovely idea right there!
