Pre-Order Warhammer 40,000: Leviathan Set This Weekend
June 7, 2023 by brennon
Unless you've been under a rock for the last week, you'll know that Leviathan, the new boxed set for Warhammer 40,000 is coming up for pre-order this weekend. This is going to be your first chance to dive in and get your hands on the newest miniatures and physical rules for the 10th Edition of Games Workshop's flagship Sci-Fi wargame.
Leviathan Boxed Set // Warhammer 40,000
Shop Warhammer 40,000 @ Store.OnTableTop
This set comes with seventy-two miniatures split between the armies of the Space Marines and the Tyranids. Both of these forces have been designed as Combat Patrols meaning that you can use them for a balanced game right out of the box. The Angels Of Death are trying to stop this Hive Fleet from eating everything in its path...
Leviathan - Space Marines // Warhammer 40,000
The Space Marines are led by the Captain In Terminator Armour and the Librarian In Terminator Armour. They are then joined by a Primaris Lieutenant In Phobos Armour and Apothecary Biologis, supported by five of the new Terminators, five Sternguard and a Ballistus Dreadnought. When it comes to dealing with Tyranids, flamers are pretty vital and so that's why a band of Infernus Marines tops off this set.
However, the Hive Fleet is not to be denied; they are relentlessly seething across the sector.
Leviathan - Tyranids // Warhammer 40,000
Inside this set, you get a Winged Tyranid Prime, Neurotyrant, Von Ryan's Leapers, Psychopage, twenty Termagants, two Ripper Swarms, eleven Neurogaunts, five Barbgaunts and the deadly new sculpt for the Screamer-Killer. This is a rather nice set indeed and whilst I could see a lot of people just wanting the Space Marines, this seems like a solid way to get your Tyranid swarm started. Additionally, it should be way easier to paint than the Space Marines which is always something to consider!
Both forces have been designed so that they can be painted as any army you like. You don't have to do Ultramarines versus Leviathan. I have already been thinking about the Jormungandr or Behemoth paintscheme for the Tyranids and potentially something like the Blood Angels for the Space Marines.
The Big Books + Download The Core Rules & Datasheets!
As well as the miniatures, you also get the Leviathan-themed Rulebook for Warhammer 40,000 which comes packed with background alongside the updated core rules. You also get your very handy Chapter Approved Mission Card Deck which will be good for setting up Matched Play games.
Leviathan Rulebook & Components // Warhammer 40,000
If you'd like to get your scything talons into Warhammer 40,000 10th Edition before Leviathan becomes available, you can also download the Core Rules right now. Get reading through the new rules and see whether or not the game is for you before diving in. Additionally, all of the Datasheets for the Leviathan miniatures have also been made available for you to get as a handy PDF right now.
My mind is boggled that the Datasheets for the units in the box weren't included...in the box, but there we go. It would have been nice to have the physical sheets so that you could avoid having to reference your phone/tablet all the time.
Pre-Order Bonus Items
If you are looking to pre-order Leviathan this weekend then you can get some additional goodies depending on where you pick it up from. If you order from Games Workshop's webstore then you'll get a Double-Sided Gaming Board.

If you decide to pick up Leviathan from a Warhammer store in person on the day of release then you could get your hands on a fancy Token Set.

Last but not least, if you're picking up the game from a Warhammer stockist (so your friendly local gaming store) then you could get some Deployment Markers and Dice Trays which could be handy to have at the tabletop when you get stuck in.
Deployment Zone Markers // Warhammer 40,000
Dice Tray // Warhammer 40,000
Some nice additional bonus items for those who want to dive in with the new edition of Warhammer 40,000. Will they stop the scalpers is the big question that everyone will be asking though. Pre-orders begin this weekend and will last for two weeks. Games Workshop have said that Leviathan will remain available whilst stocks last but they have made "a mind-boggling quantity". They have also installed a new queue system and way of limiting the number of boxed sets that can be picked up from their webstore. We shall see if it holds up or collapses this weekend.
The Battle For Oghram Global Campaign
Finally, there is also going to be a Global Campaign happening following the release of Leviathan. You will be able to join the Battle For Oghram which plays out over thirteen days and will determine if the Tyranids or Space Marines are able to hold this jungle world.
Battle For Oghram // Warhammer 40,000
You can find out more about the Battle For Oghram over on the Warhammer Community website. It sounds like it should be a fun event to dive into when you get the new box and perhaps want to play some games at your local store....
"Pre-order the Leviathan boxed set this Saturday and among the stacks of miniatures inside you’ll find a special single-use code to join the Battle for Oghram. This is your invitation to fight for the fate of the planet, and earn the victorious faction priority access to exciting new reveals in the next Warhammer 40,000 preview."
Very sneaky indeed. It will be fun to see what folks get up to with this and I'd hope we see more of these global campaigns as 10th Edition grows.
Are you going to be going for Leviathan?
"Additionally, all of the Datasheets for the Leviathan miniatures have also been made available for you to get as a handy PDF right now..."

My FLGS has been “soft capped” at 30 copies. Not sure whether the supply issues GW have had in recent months are actually resolved. Maybe they are trying to drive sales through their stores and website? Who knows.
The stores have been allocated 30 or 60 depending on the size while GW work out further allocations. This is to ensure all the stores at least have stock on the day. This Friday GW will update the stores if they are able to fill the higher number they have requested.
Thanks for the info. Makes sense.
I think a lot of their recent supply issues have been caused by producing Leviathan. I expect that will continue for a good while.
Does look like a good game box deal if you can get one.
Given how little I played 9th due to covid I just can’t justify dumping my wallet on the same written material all over again. 10th just leaves me utterly cold. I can’t be bothered to even read about it.
? you do know you said that out loud you’ll have the inquisitors arresting you for decision to the imperial cause.
