A Powerful New Tau Battlesuit Launches From Forge World!
October 4, 2014 by brennon
Forge World really have no stop button it seems with another addition to their range of awesome larger scale miniatures for Warhammer 40,000. See what you think of the Tau XV109 Y'Vahra Battlesuit!
This rather bulky looking battlesuit comes with 'a triple barrelled phased-plasma flamer capable of vaporising even hardened ceramite, and a massive EMP discharge cannon designed to incapacitate enemy war engines' to quote Forge World which all sounds very deadly indeed.
Some more information on the Suit...
"The Y'vahra battlesuit originates with the same Earth caste engineer as the R'varna, Fio'O Ke'lshan Sho'Aun, infamous for his resistance to the will of the Ethereal Council as much as his genius at weapons design. The Y'vahra represents a disturbing paradigm shift in the tactics of the pragmatic Ke'lshan Sept, in whom long years under near constant attack by alien forces has bred a stubborn pragmatism and siege mentality. The new XV109 is clearly a design intended to carry the fighting to the enemies of the Ke'lshan, perhaps marking a new stage of expansion on the Tau Empire's neglected eastern border."
Quite the awesome looking piece of kit and if you fancy splashing out a little extra for your Tau army then this could well be your guilty pleasure. Experimental rules for this deadly suit can be found on the link at the top of this piece.
What do you think of it?

That is one great looking big battlesuit. IMO much better than GW Riptide.
“Triple-barreled phased plasma flamer”…
To quote Jayne Cobb, I’ll be in my bunk…..
The feet on some of these things always look too small to me, especially considering the size of the weapons it carries. It certainly has a lot of detail.
Bigger, bulkier, heavier….
Don’t know about better, though. Too many big things nowadays, in 40K.
This, not saying its bad just not feeling it
With reference to the rules, as you would expect, it looks quite formidable. Personally I think the profile of the model from the front is fantastic. The weapons load out fills a slot sorely needed for the Tau, as the Flamer is a “Torrent” weapon. Unfortunately I feel rear profile of the thruster assembly doesn’t work well for this model. The angle of the fixed position exhaust nozzles feels too flat (horizontal) and the transitioning of surface edges is too sharp, in contrast to the inlet venting in the chest. Having said which I would probably still purchase the model… Read more »
Just doesn’t have the cool factor. Might be the legs. Just looks really top heavy and awkward.
Lol wow can I change my mind about starting an exodite army as my first adventure into 40K
Interesting piece of kit… I like the overall design but can’t help feeling it is a tad too bulky – did Ork ‘mekboy have a hand in the design of the propulsion units?
That looks utterly bonkers in the best way possible, adore that massive thruster array that makes up the back portion of the ‘mini’.
Looks like something that spends most if it’s time flying through the air at highspeed towards its target…
Blow ’em to pieces! 😀
I can say one thing about and this is going to be really deep 😉 It’s huge.
Awesome looking kit. I own two Riptides I built 1 via the instructions, but it is a kit that can be posed in a verity of ways! I will be adding one to my army eventually!
Holy big jump pack Batman!
