Games Workshop this week revealed that they are working towards a new Codex for the T'au Empire for 2022. It will soon be time to bring The Greater Good back to the grimdark of Warhammer 40,000.

First off, some great artwork for the front cover. A Commander in Enforcer armour stands proud, directing their troops into battle. Flanking them are a selection of Pathfinders who are trying to hold off the encroaching Ork forces.

"Up close and personal" has never been good for the T'au but their weapons have been given some extra kick. Pule carbines and rifles should be able to shred your enemies however close they get to you. I do wonder if they are going to put anything into the Codex to make the T'au better at close combat? I sort of like the fact that they are terrible at it, to be honest, it means you have to really think about where to deploy your units during games.

New Darkstrider Miniatures

As well as the new Codex, we also got a look at a new miniature for Sub-commander El’Myamoto who is also known as Darkstrider.

Darkstrider #2 - Warhammer 40000

Darkstrider is one of those T'au who doesn't quite follow the rules. Sure, he will do what his commander's ask of him but he isn't afraid to improvise and do something a little off-the-wall if it can get him the desired outcome quicker.

You could even use him alongside the equally forthright Commander Shadowsun in your games if you wanted to feel like a real renegade. Darkstrider seems very good at delivering that gut-punch where it is needed, especially with his special rule that adds one to your wound rolls against a specific unit he picks out.

T'au were my army of choice for at least two or three editions of Warhammer 40,000 so I am eager to see what new toys they get to play with. It will also be interesting to see if the T'au get new ways to stop Psykers AND if we might see new alien species brought into the fold?

What do you make of the T'au?
