May 6, 2024 by brennon
Games Workshop are going to be taking pre-orders for the new 10th Edition Chaos Space Marines for Warhammer 40,000. You are going to be able to snap up the new Codex as well as army sets, a new Combat Patrol and more.
Codex: Chaos Space Marines // Warhammer 40,000
Shop Warhammer 40,000 @ Store.OnTableTop
The new edition of the Codex comes with all of the updated bits and pieces that you would expect from an update. You'll have all of the new Datasheets for your Chaos Space Marines (minus the Emperor's Children who get their own free download). You'll be able to run forces of Chaos Space Marines, Cultists, Daemon monsters and more. You'll also find new Combat Patrol rules (you'll see them later) and what you'll need for Crusade games where you take your armies from a small warband to a mega threat to the Imperium.
As well as the book, there are also the Datasheet Cards and the Dice. If you'd like to really show your support for the Chaos Gods then these would work very nicely indeed. Just always beware that anything printed could be very handy but has the potential to be out of date if you're not careful.

This gives you a good base for you to then build up a new Chaos Space Marines army for the new edition of Warhammer 40,000. To aid in that, there are also some new army sets and more for you to get stuck into and start building up the Legion of your choice.
New Chaos Space Marine Armies
If this has got you interested in running a Chaos Space Marine army then you might want to get the new Combat Patrol for Zarakan’s Daemonkin.
Combat Patrol: Chaos Space Marines // Warhammer 40,000
This set is led by the Master Of Possession who commands ten Cultists, ten Chaos Space Marines and five Possessed. You get a good mix of different troops so you can learn the ways of Chaos. Games Workshop has also mentioned that if you were looking to add this to an existing army, it comes in around the 460 mark.
For those looking to get their hands on a bigger force, you can get two Army Sets which feature new versions of the Chaos Lord. The first of these is the Veterans Of The Long War.
Veterans Of The Long War // Warhammer 40,000
This set features the new Chaos Lord on foot who leads five Possessed, five Chosen, ten Chaos Terminators and ten Chaos Space Marines. If you're looking to run the cream of the crop amongst the Hereticus Astartes then this could be the one for you.
You can also get your hands on the Dread Talons if you prefer the monstrous and the mutated.
Dread Talons // Warhammer 40,000
This force falls under the combined command of both the Chaos Lord With Jump Pack and the Daemon Prince who can be built in a variety of different ways to mirror various Dark Gods. They lead five members of the Dark Commune, eight Accursed Cultists, ten Chaos Cultists and ten Chaos Space Marine Raptors (or Warp Talons). This features a rabble of Chaos scum that has been dragged up from the Hives of the Imperium alongside their daemonic masters. With various ways to run Chaos nowadays, this could be a fun hobby project.
Last but not least, a firm favourite from the Chaos Space Marine range is going to be available again as a plastic kit.
Chaos Cultist Firebrand // Warhammer 40,000
He can be attached to your Chaos Cultists and aid them with the ability to re-roll Leadership tests whilst burning his foes with the balefire pike. A solid miniature that is now available separately.
All of these new miniatures are going to be up for pre-order this weekend.
Will you be throwing your lot in with the Chaos Gods?

I painted that Firebrand model as part of the Blackstone Fortress stuff and honestly it was not a pleasant experience. Not only was it a very busy model in terms of detail (Chaos’s most enduring feature) but it also had so much dead space with bits of detail being visible but inaccessible because of other protruding but of model. It was also pushfit and really didn’t lend itself to sub-assemblies
