Games Workshop continued the previews for Warhammer 40,000 and the Blood Angels this week. This time, we got to see the new miniature for the Sanguinor and the Sanguinary Guard descending from on high as true Angels Of Death.

The Sanguinor leads the way and despite the lack of nipple plate (boo!), the miniature isn't that much different from previous incarnations. It still retains that baroque and Gothic feel and gives the Blood Angels that Sci-Fantasy feel. Some folks aren't happy with the face but I think the mask gives off quite a classical, uncanny look.

No one truly knows the identity of the Sanguinor. Is he a manifestation of the Blood Angel's psychic will or simply one of their own battle brothers who dons the armour in times of need? As pointed out in the article, the actions of the Sanguinor seem to overlap with those of Commander Dante. Maybe the mystery of the Sanguinor will be revealed over the course of this new edition of Warhammer 40,000.

New Sanguinary Guard

As well as the new miniature for the Sanguinor, we also got new miniatures for the Sanguinary Guard. These elite veterans of the Blood Angels might have had their wings clipped a little but they are still clad in their relics, wielding weapons from the vaults.

The Sanguinary Guard still wear their relic armour that has been retrofitted to make it work alongside suits of Tacticus Mark X armour worn by the Primaris. They still bring their Angelus Boltguns into battle and crackling power weapons to bring their foes low.

I quite like that we get helmeted and unhelmeted versions of the miniatures and whilst their armour looks a little strange, I think it is starting to grow on me. It will be interesting to see if different painting styles can make it pop. Also, it's a bit of a shame that we've lost the full wings of the Sanguinary Guard, replaced by little ones and modern jump packs. Maybe we'll see some folks working on customisation kits so you can bring back those classic wings.

With encarmine blades and spears at the ready, these miniatures are going to be landing on Warhammer 40,000 battlefields very soon.

What do you make of the new miniatures?
