Kharn The Betrayer Slaughters His Way Into Warhammer 40,000
September 3, 2016 by brennon
It was previewed last week but now we finally get to see the new Kharn The Betrayer model hit webstore for Warhammer 40,000 by Games Workshop. Blood will be spilled!
As mentioned in previous posts he isn't everyone's cup of tea but I really like this new model. Maybe the chains around his arm are a little much but otherwise I like the sense of motion in the model and he looks good rushing into combat like this.
It has somewhat prompted me to think about delving into Warhammer 40,000 and making a retinue of Khorne warriors for use in the new Kill Team rules set. I like the idea of this band of butchers with really personalised power armour charging around looking to pull peoples heads off.
I could then create some nice trophies for their bases as they continue to battle onwards.
A Traitor's Hate
Additionally a new Black Crusade book has been announced called Traitor's Hate which focuses in on Kharn in particular.
Inside...
"As Abbadon the Despoiler launches his 13th Black Crusade, the diabolical Lord Xophas bypasses the Cadian Gate and leads an invasion of the Diamor System.
On the Warmaster’s orders, Xorphas commands the Crimson Slaughter, Black Legion and Word Bearers forces as he seeks a monstrous source of power that could spell the doom of the Imperium itself."
New rules, formations and background are included within this tome and you can even stretch for a Limited Edition version of the book too if you so wished.
"...this limited edition book comes in an exclusive slipcase and includes 6 metal Tactical Objective markers, 36 Tactical Objective cards, a double-sided campaign map/poster and a set of Heretic Astartes Psychic Powers cards, with exclusive artwork!"
Are you interested in delving into this new slice of the story and maybe even going the extra mile and picking up this Limited Edition copy?
Do you collect Khorne?

Pose is good but he is too busy for my taste as far as details go and that also ruins that pose for me. He could had been so much better and character like Kharn would deserve that.
I like your point. It would be nice if there was a chaos god of subtlety and restraint.
Subtlety and restraint are two words that GW doesn’t have in its vocabulary.
Chaos certainly doesn’t know about them … 😉
That groin piece shouting “helloooooeeee!” is a bit of a distraction.
it’s a chaos suit it’s probably screaming die die die?
This chaos groin plate looks very cheerful
Had to look twice to realise that wasn’t his face …
Khan was always an iconic 40K miniature for me and this doesn’t disappoint.
Painting challenge accepted!
this guy , now i’m nervous.
group hug before we start.
I’m throwing my little vial of virtual holy water at the screen mate, to see if it keeps everyone calm.
If that fails, I’m having Tom code up a virtual ganja script to pump it out of people’s screens to create a sense of love and oneness 😉
Here goes… same innocuous comment as last time: it’s too busy for me *crosses fingers*
Agreed, he is a little busy.
Hugs.
yay man look at the beautiful pretty colours peace and love man.
Hugs for the hug God!
Having seen him from other angles I’m relieved that he didn’t have a gold teapot on his head as he seemed to from the top picture.
He’s quite a nice mini, for a filthy traitor.
Thanks, that’s the best laugh I’ve had all week
I was wondering what the Hell that was myself. His helmet is iconic so why they’d ruin it was beyond me.
Can’t help to think he’s tripping over all the skulls dangling around his legs..
He has clearly given too many skulls for Blood God.
There is no such thing.
Cut him off at the waist and then base him on one of these:

Still not enough skulls!!
He be trippin’ on some of the good stuff 😉
For an ordinary Khorne-character, I think the model is just fine (but not to my taste). For Kharn, I would choose the old model any day of the week. The old model is so much more in character with my vision of Kharn.
If nothing else, this model will fit in nicely with the rest of the new(ish) Chaos models IMHO.
I assume this is plastic – some of the detailing is (seemingly) most impressive.
Gee, they sure release a lot of books for a model company. Of course always available in a limited edition that contains more foldy bits and fidly bits for more quids.
I echo the statement that if this mod was not CAD sculpted it would appear more natural, not be falling over, and not contain details that are largely out of scale, even for a GW model.
CAD has been GW’s downfall. You can hide a lot of artist inexperience by cluttering the model with unrelated baggage. A pass from me on price alone. £22? Really?
I prefer the dynamism if this new one to the original pose, although there was no need for them to add “mini-skirt” armour IMO.
I think the painting makes the sculpt look a little busy. If all of the knee / crotch skulls had been painted in gold that would probably tone down the mini a lot. But if any minis deserve to look busy, its 10,000 year old Chaos-worshiping crazy dudes.
Very excited about the Black Crusade campaign books. New Chaos stuff is always welcome.
I like it. I don’t collect Khorne but if I did I’d certainly get this model. I don’t think it is busy and I think it is one of the better models they have produced.
Pose is a looking a little off balance, but it’s not like Khârn has ever cared who he hits with each swing…
I think it’s a solid update, also gives an idea of what the future Chaos Space Marines will look like, he shares more elements in common with the Forgefiend, Raptors and Dark Vengeance core set.
Kharn is rather expensive (22 pounds) in comparison to the DW characters.
Hadn’t even noticed the price. Must admit I’m disappointed after the promising pricing on the Deathwatch stuff.
Also, the plastic Void Shield Generator being £60 is a piss take compared to the pricing of AoS scenery pieces (£35 -45 for similarly sized pieces). Likely due to the fact that the 40k scenery can be taken as part of your army. Thought the pay-to-win mentality for 40k pricing was slowly but surely becoming a thing of the past, but apparently not.
Was hoping they would release playable rules before advancing the fluff with more books
End times ahoy I guess. 13th Black Crusade to end the galaxy and then start afresh for 8th Edition (aka Age of Abaddon).
Minus the chains and the bulging skulls dangling between his legs he’s pretty nice.
He looks like a space barbarian which is what he basically is.
If they had managed to get him as cool as the artwork it had been closer to a buy to paint for me
I’m really looking forward to seeing what the campaign adds to Chaos. There’s plenty of new formations so I’m hoping I’ll be able to utilise a few.
After seeing the 360 views I think he’s even better than my first impression. He sticks close to the original artwork while still looking like he’s gradually warping more demonically than ever – which to me is a good thing and what I like to see, ie. character developing. It means the old model can be used in ‘older’ scenarios, while this one is fit for the latest Crusade. The only thing I don’t like is the choice to paint everything that looks like a skull in bone colour as if it’s actually a skull. The only skulls that should… Read more »
Great sense of motion but a little bit too busy.
