Imperial Knights Codex Lands This Week For Warhammer 40,000
May 29, 2018 by brennon
The Imperial Knights are getting an updated outing in Warhammer 40,000 this weekend with the coming of their new Codex which offers up improved ways to play these walking tanks on the battlefield.
As well as the release of the new Codex there will also be a chance to snap up some hefty looking walkers to go along with it. Games Workshop will be introducing the Dominus Class Knights, walking fortresses which are bristling with guns, able to level entire sections of a city. For example, here we have the Knight Castellan...
...and if that didn't charge your motor then you also have the Knight Valiant as well here. I know WHY these exist in the world of Warhammer 40,000, since they are very cool and it must be fun modelling them, but is it any fun actually playing against them?
I'm sure someone with more knowledge of Warhammer 40,000 will be able to help me out here but surely as the person coming up against one of these you're in for a tough time as they practically rip apart entire units and tanks with ease?
I would guess the nuance in the force comes from the fact that you're not going to have many of them and once one goes down that is a big dent in your force. Still, they must be tough nuts to crack!
Trainees!
This weekend will also see the Armiger Helverins make their appearance. These smaller knights that were seen first in Forgebane are going to be available separately so you can start building up some additional support for the big guys.
I suppose a force like this does also allow you to fully delve into the idea of individual character for your force. With a larger army that is relegated to the commanders and such but with an Imperial Knight force, every one of them could have a story behind their rise.
Re-Releases
You will also be able to snap up Imperial Knights: Renegade once more. This boxed game comes with both a Traitor and Loyalist Knight alongside rules for a duel to the death between them. You'll also find plenty more for adding them to your Warhammer 40,000 forces too.
It is neat to see them revisiting this as it could give you a good way to snap up two Knights very easily AND have some fun with them whilst you wait to get your hands on more.
I think it will be interesting to see how deep the rules go overall for the Imperial Knights but from the sounds of it, they have been looking to introduce lots of ways to develop a backstory for them which is neat.
Will you be snapping these up?

New Knights look impressive. That said having weapons on shoulders gives me feel of Khador Conquest from Warmachine even when those were already thing on some of biggest Titans like Imperator class.
These look really nice, although considering how much they’ll cost per model I think I’m more interested in seeing the Adeptus Titanicus versions when they get released for that game eventually.
Also little nitpick, I may be mistaken but the Armigers are peasants, not trainees; in the fluff the knights are piloted by actual knights, ie nobles, and the armigers are piloted by their men-at-arms, attendants, etc, while trainee knight pilots are squires and pilot actual knights.
Good spot there.
Big stompy mechs what more can I say, its not like I have not already got a house full! sigh!
I haven’t played 8th ed. Did they power down the large creatures and vehicles like they did with Age of Sigmar?
In AoS, something big like this pretty much plays like a unit (they lose power as they lose hit points, and aren’t much tougher than a unit of ten or so mooks).
I don’t know the 8th ed rules, though- is it the same?
They do lose a few bits of their stats at certain intervals.
It’s not enough to cripple them with a lucky shot, unless you hit it with something that is big.
We might see more refined stats once the codexes get released.
Never underestimate what a bullet magnet these things are.
Even if their stats are good … the simple fact that pretty much all guns of your opponent will focus on them isn’t going to make them survive for long, unless you plan for that.
Hmmm,I dont know whether I like the new big knights or not. I do like their rules though. It is nice to see the 2 knight box set come back,i just hope they havent raised the price to much
I am really liking the Armigers. As for the Big Guy…I would have like one of the old Knight Variants better, like the Centaur. If they just wanted something bigger why not just go to the Wolfhound Titan and be done with it?
This is almost a Titan. I would like a Titan. But this is a Knight.
They coulda made me a Titan. And I woulda bought a Titan. But they made this Knight, that is not a Titan.
(repeat this mantra and watch how much money you save!)
As a display model a Titan would be cool.
However I’m already having a hard time justifying these knights in a 28mm skirmish …
the new knights are fantastic looking addition’s to the range.
ooh … I kind of missed the Renegades box when it was released.
Now I’m definitely tempted.
I just hope they run out by the time I decide to pull the trigger.
If they sneak in ‘Adeptus Titanicus’ advertising they’d be set …
The Armiger Helverins here are not the same class / loadout as the ones that came in the Forgebane set. Unless they’re multipart models that give you options to do both then this isn’t the release of the Armiger Warglaves separately.
I am looking forward to the new Codex and the Armiger Helverins, but the new Knight Valiant and Castellan are IMO very disappointing. A bit like the horrible Centurions for Space Marines.
“Let’s make the Knights bigger and stuck more weapons on them…”
A wasted opportunity.
I am sooo getting the codex and some Armigers… xD
Duncan (Warhammer TV) is happy (*) to have the Knights :

(*) happy being an understatement of the century …
I couldn’t resist buying Renegade as it justs seems such good value for money, I bought the previous version too when that came out and this is almost identical but I’m not too concerned as I can build all 4 and either add them to a force of my own or play 4 player Renegade 🙂
