[Update] Age Of Sigmar’s New Edition, Adeptus Titanicus & Plastic Sisters Of Battle
May 12, 2018 by brennon
As some of you will know, Games Workshop is running Warhammer Fest over this coming weekend. Well, the first big bit of news hit for that earlier with the news that Age Of Sigmar was getting a new edition of the game.
As the announcement suggests, we're going to be seeing Age Of Sigmar expand to include a new narrative, refined gameplay choices and interestingly more focus on magic which is cool.
It will also see the forces of Order and Death at the forefront it seems as that becomes the focus after Malign Portents. But, it's not just all Fantasy as the team are also talking Warhammer 40,000 too.
[Update] New Blood Bowl Teams
We also got to see some of the new models coming out from the Specialist Games team for Blood Bowl. The lead was taken by some new Blood Bowl Dark Elves.
The team is looking awesome, especially the Witch Elf in the middle of the piece there. I think the models here are rather ace indeed - showing off plenty of motion.
We also got some more of their specialised players like the Assassin here.
Other teams are not out of the loop either with some new releases which can be seen over on their Blog AND these monstrous new Troll designs.
Some wonderful models which take us back to the Old World!
[Update] Adeptus Titanicus Preview
We got our first look at Adeptus Titanicus as well from Warhammer Fest including some of the new models.
The game is set to be released in August and will offer up a chance to play as these mighty Titans without shelling out for a new mortgage AND comes with some swanky looking new terrain options too.
Check out the teaser trailer that was popped up on their Live Blog this weekend...
Are you excited for this awesome new game set within the world of Warhammer 40,000?
[Update] Plastic Sisters Of Battle
Additionally, we also got to see the first miniature for the Sisters Of Battle which will be available ahead of the main release.
It is going to be very hard not to play Adeptus Sororitas when they come out next year...
[Update] New Edition Teasers & Malign Sorceries
So we get some more word on what's coming for Age Of Sigmar in the form of two new forces.
The first of these is the Nighthaunt who have turned out to be a full-on faction within the Death sphere rather than just a single model!
We also have a new Chamber for the Stormcast Eternals as Sigmar unleashes the Sacrosanct Chamber on his foes.
These new warriors of the storm have access to powerful magical abilities and strange beasts.
We also learned about how massive spells are going to be a part of the world now. This means a major overhaul of how magic works AND lasting effects (as miniatures on the battlefield).
I love the idea of these spell effects remaining on the tabletop as it really starts to develop the cinematic feel of Age Of Sigmar on the tabletop.
Are you being won over by the new look of Age Of Sigmar they are bringing to the tabletop?
New Models
We also got to see some of the first new models for the range which included this updated Stormcast Eternal here wielding their tired and tested hammer.
...and alongside that we also saw this new model for the undead, labelled as a Nighthaunt. It will be very interesting seeing where the game goes in the future but that looks like a Stormcast Eternal with a firm grip on magic!
I'm sure there will be plenty of additional news over the coming few days and we'll try and update this as things go on. However, what do you think of a new Edition of Age Of Sigmar?
Drop your thoughts below...

Cor that nightgaunt!
Couldn’t be more excited. Hopefully a great new box on the horizon, fingers corssed for a stormcast vs legions of nagash set. Or if GW have really been hitting the drink hard, maybe a Deepkin and Legions of Nagash box, Nagash has really got to be pissed that they are making off with all his souls.
I really should have read more of the announcment before excitedly typing away lol. Death and Stormcast it is! Honestly sounds fantastic. Can’t wait to see how they update the gameplay.
As an avid AoS player I am looking forward to this. It will be interesting to see what they do. A new boxed set SC vs Death seems to be a given from the art. I dare say that it will be released mid year the same time as the General’s Handook 2018 is/was due. Will they do a new hardback ? As the last one was largely lore and battleplans there is no real need for one or will they just do a deluxe version of the General’s handbook? or if they do are hardback will the cancel the… Read more »
I heard there will still be a general’s gandbook this year @beardragon14 some chap asked the question apparently.
Cheers thanks mate
It’s a bally shame you folks can’t go there and film, as obvs you can’t show the Titanicus minis as they’re on other sites… or can you?
But yes, they’re glorious minis. I haven’t had a chance to play much AoS but I’ve loved the death models for yonks. Those are staggering.
Nah!

I think they both look awesome.
You’ve officially just made my entire weekend. Those new models look insane. Can’t wait to get in on this.
Some great views of the nightgaunt. I especially like the mounted ones. My wife has given me two Gardens of Morr for some reason over the last few years, and I can easily see an army of nightgaunt rising and drifting among the scenery in our AD&D campaign. Would make for a great Battlesystem rumble!
Quite a turnaround from those idiotic floaty fish elves.
What will this new release do for the existing books and forces ?
Or is it more along the lines of a new starter set with an updated set of rules & war scrolls for the forces involved ?
I think it is more along the lines of the second option
That is the existing army boks aren’t invalidated…. except for the 4 pages of rules at the back
All the current stuff out is fully compatible with minor changes to warscrolls which are all still free. The core free rules are changing to reflect the evolution of the game (eg like the way aoe buffs will work to stop conga lines). Got all this and put it into my own words from an official GW slide via the seminar except the conga lines part but the new Death scrolls had aoe buff rules which stopped the player doing that.
New edition but GW still keeps pushing those Sigmarines. That is sure to keep me not interested from AoS.
Well, there’s that big collection of ethereal Nighthaunts too…

So good it needs rewriting before the ink has dried XD
Do it right, do it once!
FML
Sorry but GW along with every other company always releases new editions look at fantasy that had 8 iterations before it was “killed off” there’s always tweaking that goes on so you can’t really grumble like a longbeard just because they’ve updated the rules to accommodate “new and fresh ideas”*
* New and fresh ideas are yet to be confirmed and this commentor takes no responsibility for any failings by GW to do a proper job of making their concepts a reality
Yes god forbid people from actually improving upon a thing as times go by…
And since rules and warscrolls are free, you cannot really bitch about that too.
Are any of you happy with a 2 year turn round on core rule editions?
The constant rules churn has done nothing but put me off GW and if this was unscheduled then it’s little else than admitting that the first edition was an abortion. Fuck the price, I’d rather have a quality product.
Considering the impossibility of any rules system surviving actual use by (competitive) players … I think a 2 year cycle is the best choice, especially when you consider how newbie friendly this is.
The new GW strategy is the best possible option for everyone.
Oh for goodness sake. You got one. You didn’t like it. Fine. It was free. You didn’t lose anything. Stop using disgusting language, grow up, shut up you cretinous whelp.
Talk about fragile snowflake. If other people having and stating opposing opinions and not liking same thing as you makes you angry then maybe internet isn’t right place for you. You only give sensible people that like AoS bad name with that behavior.
I’m far from ‘fragile’ and not a snowflake I just do not see the point in whining about something that is free, especially when there is so much choice in the market to choose from.
You’re the one limiting yourself and that’s a bit sad. Play something else. Adapt the rules to suit you.
@bubbles15 Ironically, your post was far more offensive than the one @twodeesick put up.
Wow, way to make it personal. Keyboard warriors -_- I think that qualifies you for a blackbelt XD
Go home XD
I think you need to go into the corner and have a time out and come back when you can play nicely.
2 years? I’m sure it’s more like 3 as AoA was released in 2015. 3 years is broadly in line with recent trends in versions
>Are any of you happy with a 2 year (well, 3 but who’s counting) turn round on core rule editions?
I don’t mind when the rules are free, update away.
You’re feeling offended because GW have decided to expand upon their product do you actually play any miniatures games?? Flames of War release new editions Privateer Press release new editions, GW released a statement explaining why they had chosen to do this it was not unscheduled, they felt that with the advent of the Generals Handbook and newer races changing the way the games played they felt it was time to give the rules a clean up, makes sense they would also see it as an opportunity to expand a universe which is really quite limited by adding in new… Read more »
I’m not oddended. Just tied of the constant rules churn that has become accepted as the norm. It fucks me right off that rules can’t be written with the intention of being finite as possible. I feel that scheduling a 2 to 3 year core rule update only provides space for poorly tested and slap dash rules.
I’ve been playing wargames for over 20 years thank you very much. Do I play games? Pft
But nothing is ever set in stone and sorry but after 20 years your should be used to the constant change of rules if they followed your logic their games works end up being either stagnant or completely broken, personally I like that they change the rules to keep up with the game it means that it evolves and grows as a format I hated the idea of AoS when it came out (still do in some ways) and while I don’t always agree with the way GW have done things they’ve always tried to keep they’re products fresh not… Read more »
@spicymchaggisjig12345 I would even say there’s no such thing as a perfect rules set so games are always going to change and evolve
Agreed but that doesn’t mean accepting it on such a high turnover. My though process is not flawed, neither am I a cretinous whelp or just moaning got the sake of it. I would rather gave a more efifibed product that has had a more considered approach with appropriate testing that will last much longer than the current status quo. It’s an opinion. You don’t have to prove it wrong or otherwise.
There have been four versions of Flames of War in about 5 years. Games change. This is a good thing. I don’t understand what you want. It seems the usual ‘it’s got to be perfect for me, how I want it because I want it and anything else isn’t play tested/competitive/good/suits my whim’. What it sounds like – and I apologise for my comment as I was in a foul mood and tired of whining about free stuff – is the pointless petulance. There’s Godslayer in the big banner ad. Download the rules for Mythic battles Pantheon (we’re getting a… Read more »

Ok so accepting that other people have been flinging mud around, I haven’t and so I would like to ask what sort of frequency would be acceptable for a rules update. I mean I think we can all agree that rules do need to be updated, even if all they’re doing is including FAQ answers and errata into them. I would also be interested to know what games you play and how frequently those rules are updated. I do think that there’s different expectations among different types of Wargamers as to what sort of maintenance a set of rules requires;… Read more »
This is all well and good but does it also mean that every other army that has been neglected by GW is going to get some love as well? kharadron for example, or sylvaneth both of these armies have been left untouched since they were first released and both of them are in need of some overdue attention especially when you consider that Aelves are now in full swing and the Sigmarines have 3 or else 4 different “chambers” feels like GW are still kind of halfarsing this venture to me but time will tell if I’m wrong.
Must not give in… Must not give in… Must not give in.. Must not….. err what was I fighting again.. Oooh look NitghtHaunts XD
That sister is promising for the eest of the range.
Nighthaunt stuff looks really nice. Stormcast are well stormcast, not my taste. Early indications are the rules changes won’t address what I dislike about the system. The magic stuff, not doing it for me. New terrain bits look nice though.
Other stuff, bb dark elves look great. Orcs cheerleaders are amazing. Titanicus looks really nice, but I don’t want another game with massive minis so probably a pass.
BB Dark Elves? Orc Cheerleaders? Where did you see those, if I may ask?
@dubbidubbi just search #warhammerfest on twitter you’ll see everything
Tales of the tabletop skirmisher and 2 p’s in a pod facebook groups
The stormcaster would look good as a priest with a bit of work.
Lovin the new sister of battle.
I think a second edition is definitely a good idea. For all that I was disappointed that GW didn’t try to fix the Old World / Warhammer, and didn’t much like the way they ended it, I was hopeful that a new game (i.e. Age of Sigmar) would allow them to do a more high fantasy game with larger models in an interesting way that the previous game had not. I was more willing than many to approach the new game with an open mind. And was very disappointed with the (lack of) setting and with the gameplay of the… Read more »
God damnit I’m gonna be so fucking poor.
Fantastic news about Titanicus and those minis just look phenomenal. Loving the new Sister too and the direction in design that it indicates, especially the strong continuity with the old range. I’m just in the process of building an SoB force now from the old metal minis and I’d forgotten how lovely and detailed they were (IMHO). Now do I base my old Sisters on raised up plinth 32mm bases as this one looks to be placed or stay with the old school 25mm and crack out the goblin green and sand as someone mentioned the other day for nostalgia.… Read more »
I like the nightgaunt. Spell effects are a good idea.
Sigmarines: yawn.
Hopefully they can make it so Age of Sigmar can actually be played and not feel like a water down version of 40k. I been playing GW games since 2nd 40k. The fact that Fantasy played different then 40k was the selling point for me. And I have my Stronghold of Dwarves and Raider ships of Dark Elves. It was a kick in the teeth to find that all that was now basically worthless. So here to hoping under the helm of the current Ruler of all Games Workshop he can make Fantasy playable to me again and reward my… Read more »
So many glorious things!
The Titanicus models and terrain look incredible. I need a lot of this.
But the star is that Sisters of Battle render. It is everything I ever wanted aesthetically from that army, and it is so beautifully sculpted. It is also a giant middle finger to every single third party manufacturer who has tried to copy the design.
That SISTER! Loving a lot there. The face, the scars, the hair, the stance, the reasonably fine details…
If *this* is the new standard I might go lunatic. Especially since this faction before any other is so made for the grainy gritty heterogenous Imperial Grim Dark (TM) by itself already.
Anyone know if the Kopinski-AW is supposed to be Ephrael Stern?
Oh, and crazy Trolls and interesting DE -could use these else where… 😉
Don’t think so, that’s the cover art from ‘Faith and Fire’.
Adeptus Titanicus minis look good; anyone got any idea how they look next to 40k minis? I’m thinking they might make for nice Legio Cybernetica alternatives in regular 40k. 🙂 Also, anyone know if it’ll just be titans, or will we see infantry and tanks somewhere down the line? At the very least I’d expect things like the various Bandblade variants somewhere down the line considering some of those are specifically intended as Titan killers. I think these would also look great used alongside some of the new Star Wars terrain we’ve seen over the last week or so; I… Read more »
@lordofuzkulak
For now it will be only Titans and only Imperial Titans because it is set in the Horus Heresy. But if it is sucessfull GW might do infantry.
About the size, go to the live blog https://www.warhammer-community.com/2018/05/11/warhammer-fest-live-blog-2gw-homepage-post-1/
scroll down quite a bit and you will see AT Knights in comparison to the running away human from the Warhammer Fantasy Battles giant kit.
GW really knows how to open up wallets and prepare them for the things that are to come …
Feels like ive been waiting ages for Adeptus Titanicus to arrive and now its nearly hear, I can already feel my wallet crying out. Have to admit though that even though I’m not an AoS player those magic effects are really tempting me.
