Brand New Death Korps Minis Mobilise For Warhammer 40,000
November 25, 2024 by brennon
Another one of the big reveals for Warhammer 40,000 last week was the introduction of a brand new plastic range for the Astra Militarum. The Death Korps Of Krieg are getting the full regiment treatment from Games Workshop with brand new plastic kits for HQ choices, troops, heavy weapons and more.
Lord Marshal Dreir // Warhammer 40,000
Leading the way is the mighty strategist and warlord, Lord Marshal Varnan Dreir. He is a tough, grizzled veteran who fights alongside the common troopers and on the front lines as often as possible. He equally expects any who follows him into battle to do everything they can in the name of the Imperium, however horrific it might be. He rides into battle on the back of ES819 which has been cloned and "remade" many times, leading to folks believing that the mount is immortal.
A fully reworked Krieg Command Squad will also be available for you to pick up which features a medic, standard bearer and more. They are led by a Krieg Commissar who has taken command over.

As well as the new characters, you'll also be able to get new specialist troops for your Krieg-themed armies. The Command Engineers are good for close combat, armed with shotguns and flamers.

They can also make use of a mine for blowing their enemies to kingdom come! This is a great set for those wanting to play out the trench-based clashes of the Death Korps Of Krieg. I sense a lot of folks are going to be starting a new Astra Militarum army in the next few months.
As well as the Combat Engineers, the Death Riders have been reworked from their original Forge World Resin kit and they get an excellent new set of plastic miniatures.

You can use these as the honour guard for the Lord Marshal and you can arm them with explosive-tipped lances or lascarbines. Add a few of these units into your army and you'll be able to secure objectives across the battlefield.
Big Guns Never Tire
Supporting the Krieg from afar, you can also call on the Astra Militarum's love of big guns. A full Heavy Weapons Squad features weapons for every occasion.
Krieg Heavy Weapons Squad // Warhammer 40,000
You'll be able to give your Heavy Weapons Squads lascannons, auto-guns and heavy flamers. There is a weapon for every occasion. They have all been tweaked and updated to give off proper Krieg vibes, carrying through that World War I aesthetic.
The same goes for the big Artillery Team.

This can be built with a Heavy Mortar, Heavy Quad Launcher, Rocket Launchers or the Siege Cannon. That is some siege-breaking prowess that would make Rogal Dorn a happy man.
New Army Set & Codex
Most of the new releases will find themselves as part of the brand new Army Set that will celebrate the release of the Death Korps Of Krieg.

The new 10th Edition Codex for the Astra Militarum will also be available shortly after the launch of the Death Korps Of Krieg. It will come with a new, themed cover and all of the rules for running the Astra Militarum on the tabletop as the Death Korps Of Krieg and Cadians.
Could you be tempted to build a brand new Astra Militarum army themed around the Death Korps Of Krieg?

The infantry looks great. I can see me getting the artillery for my take on The Last War, sci-fi cavalry … well it’s not for me.
Krieg Cavalry makes sense, their horses are heavily bioengineered for survival and since they’re a siege unit the cavalry are more of a breakout unit than a line breaker. Even in WWI on the Western Front cavalry charges were successful against defended positions, in the Middle East they were much more useful.
TLDR: Cheap breakout unit, all terrain capable and they love to die = Krieg Cavalry Good.
Where are the normal infantry
It will be the reboxed Kill Team Death Korps that they did during the last edition of the game. They’ll just make it a new boxed set for 40K.
Oh boy, Krieg 🙄
GW should have stuck with the OG gasmasks and coats regiment: Steel Legion. But, no, we get the edgelord knock-off version.
steel legion were cool. I can see why people like kreig though.
These will sell faster than toilet paper during the first week of the End Times.
Some really great releases here, great to see the DKoK get a more complete plastic range. Like @somegeezer sci-fi cavalry just seems a bit bonkers but as minis they look rather good, though i think maybe a bit too dynamic, I perfered the less heroic resin version. The command squad has some nice minis but they feel quite static, a lot of standing around poses which feels very different to the rest of the range. The heavy weapon squad looks excellent and the style really gives them that grounded in WWI vibe thats so strong with the DKoK, the artillery… Read more »
It’s more of a “here’s all the new stuff” box than an army box.

It only makes sense with 40k lore which is about as sane and sensible as the One Piece Mangaverse (perhaps less so). As is the only real place horse mounted unites make sense on a modern battlefield is as scouts and other spec ops missions or as police support, by the real 41st millennium those rolls would likely be taken by quantum constructs that are as old by then as rideable horses are today or something even more alien to the modern mind.
“The command squad…a lot of standing around” – so typical management really then. I know what you mean about the odd composition of the Army box. I thought the same. Kinda expected it to be a Command unit, an infantry unit and a heavy weapons unit, with Artillery and Calvary sold separately. That said, I will probably pick up a box of the calvary just to see how they paint out, they are gorgeous.
We have skulls on our gas masks. Are we the baddies?
Damn this set is amazing. Every single model in this range GW have nailed. The quality in detail in Lord Marshal Dreir for a plastic mini is just wow it beats most resin models. The engineers, the horses, the heavy guns and the command squad. Each time I look at the the models you notice those little extra details the bullet holes in the flags, the heavy guns are full on action diorama’s in their own right.
The whole range captures that World War I shift of moving from the napoleonic into warfare at an industry level.

Sadly, I have to agree. Someone at my old club had a huge Krieg Forgeworld army that cost almost as much as a car.
These are going to sell out and be flipped on eBay from day one. Get ready, buyer-bots! Attack!
I love the minis and I’ll definitely be getting some at some point. Not a fan of the Death Riders having Carbines, they never have before in the Lore. They’re shock cavalry who follow up breakthroughs, even in a recon role they never carry one. It goes against their in Lore ethos to carry one.
Good thing I already have 45 Krieg Infantry built and ready to be reinforced 🙂
They are looking brilliant for the game table’s their 👌
Good to see that they spell it correctly. Many in the Anglosphere seem to think that ‘ei’ and ‘ie’ are interchangeable in German……
