New Chaos Knights Codex Stomps Into Warhammer 40,000
May 23, 2022 by brennon
Games Workshop is really enjoying showcasing the forces of Chaos at the moment. Alongside the new Kill Team boxed set, there is also a new Codex: Chaos Knights on the way for Warhammer 40,000 that allows you to get big and stompy with extra spikes.

The new Chaos Knights Codex will focus on offering up new options for those folks who love their big, bad heretics. One of the neat elements of the Codex surrounds the new Harbinger Of Dread rules. This allows you to really showcase the terrifying and evil presence that the Chaos Knights have on the tabletop.
You'll also find new Warp Storm Psychic shenanigans alongside new Strategems, Special Rules and more. There are even Crusade rules allowing you to dive into the narrative elements of bringing a Chaos Knight house to life.
New Chaos Knights Miniatures
As well as the new Codex, the miniatures that were available earlier in the launch box are now heading to regular retail.
Knight Abominant // Warhammer 40,000
The Knight Abominant box allows you to make one of those towering brutes alongside a Knight Desecrator and Knight Rampager. Each of them can be highly customised to match the kind of Dread House that you want to make. Whilst I feel that Knights are a bit "big" for Warhammer 40,000, I do appreciate how unique and interesting you can make them as miniatures.
Bounding alongside the Chaos Knights, we also have smaller variants. A new boxed set allows you to make two War Dogs of your choice.
War Dogs // Warhammer 40,000
This set allows you to make the War Dog Karnivore, War Dog Stalker and War Dog Brigand. Different weapon options and accessories again allow you to make some very customisable Knights for use in your Chaos army.
Whilst the initial outlay is a lot more than making most armies in Warhammer 40,000, at least you don't have to paint many miniatures, right? I think their size might counteract the fact that you're only painting three or four miniatures I guess.
Chaos Knights Datacards
As with all armies, there is also a set of Datacards so you can check on your strategems on the fly rather than diving into the Codex and Rulebook all the time.

Could you be tempted to give the Chaos Knights a go when it comes to playing Warhammer 40,000? It's certainly a unique way to go when it comes to making an army. You could even tinker with the idea of slotting them in alongside a larger Chaos Space Marines force.
Do you like the Chaos Knights as an army?

Great looking war engines love the vultures sitting on their knights back.
While Chaos Knights themselves look really good I am worried what they will do to meta.
Chaos Knights have been around for a while. I think it is the Design Studio moreso than the Codex or army will do to the Meta. If your army cant do well against Knights before or after the new codexes its much of a muchness with their toughness and firepower. The book will probably make it tougher again, then in six months time something might get nerfed. I think the main problem is GW not thinking things through and making knee jerk reactions FAQing stuff, adding rules (Armour of Contempt) and changing points too much in the aftermath of the… Read more »
I’d argue that those aren’t “knee jerk reactions” but calculated design decisions that serve to help sales instead of provide for a balanced game, because it is the same song and dance every single time.
There’s only so many times you can consider that a mistake before it becomes a pattern.
I’ve never understood the need to have these big things on the table in a flippin’ 28mm-ish skirmish game.
If the enemy gets this close to your big titans then you done fckd up (and it also proves that weapon ranges in 40k are ridiculously short).
The Knights and the Wardogs look amazing.
A great way for GW to spearhead their new chaos releases.
Looking forward to seeing what comes next.
