New 40K Aeldari, Corsairs & Horus Heresy Daemons Revealed
January 28, 2022 by brennon
Some early morning previews from Games Workshop today. We start with a look at what the offerings were for Warhammer 40,000. We thought we might see some news on T'au and Kroot but we instead find ourselves getting a reveal of the first wave of Aeldari releases.
The Aeldari Warhost Revealed // Warhammer 40,000

We start with the big boi that showed up yesterday. He was revealed via potato camera and then over on their Warhammer Community website. See what you make of the new Avatar Of Khaine...
Aeldari - Avatar Of Khaine // Warhammer 40,000
This shows off a towering new version of the Avatar Of Khaine. The Avatar has always been a little diminutive compared to the new characters and monsters in Warhammer 40,000. Now, this mighty shard of a fallen god is now ready to tower over everything else on the battlefield and take some names.
Here are some of the alternative options for the Avatar that will be available in the new plastic kit.
Aeldari - Avatar Of Khaine Options // Warhammer 40,000
This gives you a few different incarnations of The Wailing Doom. You can get it as the traditional sword, a spear or perhaps an axe. I think I would go with either the wild hair variant (centre) or the one with the big ol' helmet. I think that with the spear looks really good.
Reaper Of Souls
The next of the big reveals was for a new plastic Phoenix Lord. Here we have Maugan Ra in all his glory, ready to cut down enemies from afar.
Maugan Ra // Warhammer 40,000
This is, again, quite the glow-up for the original metal (and then Finecast) miniature. He has a big flowing cloak, a collection of skulls and a hood. Everyone loves a good hood. I think this is a great new option and I reckon that I would snap this up.
New Aspect Warriors - Shining Spears!
Keeping with the idea of new Aspect Warriors, we also have the new set for the Shining Spears. This is another of the updates for a very old kit. It has been a long time coming.
Shining Spears // Warhammer 40,000
I think this makes the Shining Spears look fantastic. I love the sleek and polished look and I think the updated poses and helmets look superb. The Shining Spears have always ended up sitting on the sidelines but maybe they'll find their way into more armies now. It would be cool to see their Phoenix Lord introduced back into the mix perhaps?
The Aeldari Corsairs Come To Kill Team
Keeping with the theme of Aeldari, they are also finding their way into the skirmishing wargames of Kill Team.
Corsair Voidscarred // Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team
This was the only preview for the Corsairs (sadly) but they are looking good. There is a nice mix of bits here showing off the way that the Corsairs straddle the line between the Aeldari and the Drukhari. I could see these being a good way to make your own Exodite force too.
These miniatures are going to be available for Kill Team (of course) but you'll also find ways to introduce them into your games of Warhammer 40,000 too. They are also going to be coming up against an as-yet-announced foe. I wonder what that could be?
Here is a look at everything that has been revealed so far (mostly)...
New Aeldari Releases // Warhammer 40,000
Some pretty nifty stuff. The Warlocks seem to have hidden away in this image but there are some great options for folks diving into building or updating a new Aeldari force.
Warhammer: The Horus Heresy - A Classic Daemon
If you wanted to utterly smash the Angels Of Death then you can't go too far wrong when it comes to summoning Ka'Bandha.
Ka'Bandha // Warhammer: The Horus Heresy
This is going to be another of the big resin Character Series miniatures from Forge World. So, whilst we thought we might be getting a new starter set...this is going to be costing you an arm and a leg. The miniature is, undoubtedly, powerful and epic in every respect. It just might slaughter my wallet.
Ka’Bandha, Daemon General of Khorne // Warhammer: The Horus Heresy
Another interesting thing was the reveal of a new title. Warhammer: The Horus Heresy shows that they are potentially going to be working on a way to integrate this more into their expanded set of systems.
Ka'Bandha Details // Warhammer: The Horus Heresy
Overall, this was a pretty standard set of grimdark reveals for Warhammer 40,000. We thought that we might get some more morsels of information on new games and the roadmap for 2022 but, it was mostly stuff that we already knew about.
It would be interesting to hear what you thought in the comments...

And the “Ashes” expansion for Necromunda…. the silhouettes looked like Muties from GorkaMorka… So… “GorkaMorka light” in Necromunda?
Don’t worry – working on a piece for that too haha. That was the most interesting thing but felt like a lacklustre tease, unfortunately.
Personally I felt like that for the complete stream… “more fiddly bits that will break in transport” 😉
But I won’t rant. If you like it it, more power to you. (“You” in general not only you == ben) Not my cup of hot stuff
I’m pretty much on the same wavelength. I liked the new Aeldari stuff but – we’d seen most of it already. Nothing massive really.
Would have thought GW would have used this to answer lots of the unanswered questions floating around. When do we get Cursed City? What’s with Warhammer: The Horus Heresy? What’s the roadmap for the full year? Could have done a lot more to get people excited.
From what I saw in the twitch chat…. the fanboyz seemed to be happy… and that’s all what matters. Keep them spending. S:
Gotta harpoon dem whales :p
It was only the LA open preview and it is still only Jan it is really not the right time for the big items to come out. I expect if the Horus Heresy rumours of a new core set it would be march / april preview with a June release.
I think after 22 years waiting for an Eldar update it was still exciting preview.
Got to say as a younger man Maugan Ra was my favourite of all the Eldar Models – my brother was a huge Eldar fan and he pretty much bought everything. He allowed me to paint Maugan Ra and to be fair purely for that reason alone I would be tempted to buy this new one. He doesn’t look as bulky as the original (which kinda makes sense for Eldar troops) but he has a lot of the original design features (the big skull Shoulder pad and the reaper cannon) looks good – I like him. The Avatar however, I… Read more »
I assume the Corsair will be a case of buy straight away or lose out forever. Corporations don’t like the idea of people planning their purchases wisely, waiting until they are ready.
It looks like it will be available as part of a new Kill Team set. That means that they’ll be available later separately – just like the Death Korps/Kommandos and upcoming Sisters/T’au will be.
Fingers crossed.
Great new figures especially the chaos Lord.
The eldar updates are all good and important updates. It’s exactly what people wanted and what was needed. Nice to see in full, but no great revelation. The rest is all fine, though overhyped. GW did themselves no favours this time. One Corsair and one demon, might as well not have bother, kept the show shorter and sharper and done another in a few weeks.
Not sure what I was expecting them to talk about, but what they did show wasn’t that exciting.
While I mostly like that new Avatar sculpt I don’t really dig that un-helmeted head as it reminds me too much about DnD dark elf. Other than that those good looking updates all around.
They really went all out on not changing a single thing on the eldar, huh? I really would’ve hoped at least the clown shoulder pads on maugan ra would go…
I think I like the old Meagan Ra better. Am I now officilly an old grognard.
The avatar looks good, but ua too big to my taste. I have the forge world one and like that one better.
The shining spears…
Now those have me tempted. The old models really don’t hold up and they are some of the coolest aspext warriors.
Maybe someday…
Preferably cheap and used…
Maugan Ra is a great update to this line. I might think on buying it and get rid of the Foot on Rock.
Ok, so I wasn’t hot on the fat head Eldar releases… until now. I REALLY like this release, and I think they absolutely killed Maugan Ra and the Avatar. I don’t know, its hard to say why but I think they kept the aesthetic but didn’t over do it with extras that theyre known for.
Lots of disappointment over the Horus Heresy BS, so much salt.
