New Warhammer 40K Kill Team Starter Options Pop Up This Week
January 17, 2022 by brennon
Some brand new options are popping up for those who didn't dive into Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team with the release of the initial boxed set. If you want to get started in their Sci-Fi skirmish wargame then Games Workshop has made a brand new Starter Set.

The new Starter Set is a little more cut down than the initial release. It comes with fewer of the big terrain pieces but still gives you a nice bunch of miniatures for the Death Korps Of Krieg and the Ork Kommandos. You also get a smattering of Orky and Imperial terrain which you can hide behind when the shooting starts.
The box still comes with everything that you need to play the game. You've got the core rules, a guide to getting started, dice and those all-important new measuring devices. Coming in at a much lower price point (I would assume), this might be a nice time to dive into the game.
Kill Team Boxes
If you just wanted to pick up the miniatures from Kill Team then you also have that option too. There are new boxes landing for the Death Korps Of Krieg and the Ork Kommandos...
Death Korps Of Krieg // Kill Team
Ork Kommandos // Kill Team
A good option, perhaps, if you just wanted to add some new miniatures into the mix alongside your existing armies of the Orks or Astra Militarum. The miniatures for both sides are looking very nice indeed and I'm sure a lot of folks will be eager to snap these up.
New Terrain Boxed Set
If you wanted to get your hands on the terrain that was previously available in the big boxed game then that is also going to be available. Here is Killzone Octarius.
Killzone Octarius // Kill Team
This gives you a Kill Team layout and all of the modular Orky terrain that you could want. So, if you wanted to expand on the offerings from the Starter Set then this could be a good next step. Again, I could see folks perhaps picking this up and using it for their larger games of Warhammer 40,000 as well as just Kill Team.
A Kill Team Tome
In addition to the plastic, we also have a separate book too. You can get your hands on the separate Kill Team: Octarius tome...
Kill Team: Octarius // Warhammer 40,000
This book covers the Kill Team rules for the Ork Kommandos and the Veteran Guardsmen (if you picked up the boxes separate from the Starter Set for example). You'll also find rare equipment, tactical ploys and other options for using them on the battlefield.
There are also nine bespoke Shadow Operations missions that allow you to play out a campaign across the Octarius sector. Each of them come with special rules and distinct objectives that you need to complete.
So, a good way for you to get stuck into Kill Team?

Humm might need to pick up a box of Death Korps.
…and so it begins
Krieg… Krieg never changes….
and it may take 10 years for him to paint them, particularly as they will be effectively in quarantine for 5 years.
A great looking set of terrain an figures.
Is it just me or is GW still catching up on things it announced last year, but weren’t released when they were planned to….
Pretty sure the separate Kill team boxes and other bits from this news item were announced are the time the Sisters vs T’au KT box set came out.
The AoS pre-orders last week I don’t think were announced long ago, but I could be wrong as I don’t follow it as closely as I do 40K.
You’re not wrong. I imagine Brexit, COVID and all manner of other factors from the last year have been pushing things timeline-wise for GW (and other companies).
It feels like January/February are the last of their catch-up months though with things moving towards the new releases from March onwards – the Eldar/Chaos Space Marines etc.
yep … they announced those teams and the ‘cheaper’ starter set last year. I think a few months after the Octarius set had been released.
GW has already said that a few codexes had suffered from delays due to ‘the event’ and related factors.
I don’t expect this to be the last thing to suffer from delays.
I imagine the general ‘backlog’ from the current events will probably stick around for a few years yet. Not just within the hobby, though I feel like GW’s very constant release schedule makes us notice it a little more with them. I’m actually very surprised they’ve managed to keep up their ‘weekly’ releases as well as they have, to be honest.
I thought they had switched to bi-weekly releases.
Or at least that appears the speed at the moment …
I agree that both the event (and evergreen) will have an impact for at least few more years.
Possibly. I remember them saying something about that, but if I’m honest, I haven’t focused on it as much with school these past few years. 😛
Really dislike the 40k terrain, not just this, but in general. Ork stuff looks like it was designed by children and the whole gothic thing looks stupid in a sci fi setting.
But I don’t like the armies much… pointy helmet elves, american footballer marines, terminator-esque necrons… I could slag off them all, but I think you get the drift.
Some of the AOS stuff is lame too, but there’s some cool stuff like the sea elves and psycho-bitch elves.
The Ork stuff looks like it was designed by Orks, which does make sense. That’s a certain style, I admit, same with the juxtaposition of archaic gothic styles against the sci-fi universe of 40k. The charm of the latter is that it IS ludicrous, but there’s a reason that ‘Grimdark’ is an art style these days. To each their own, as always, but I think the styles sit very nicely in the setting for which they are designed.
This looks great and I’ve been wanting to get a starter set for KT. I saw that Amazon has the KILL TEAM: OCTARIUS set still available but I don’t see anything on when we might see the Starter Set or “squad boxes”. Is there an idea or educated guess when we might see that?
