Games Workshop previewed what's coming for Warhammer 40,000 10th Edition in the next few months with both new miniatures and rules for the Adepta Sororitas and the Genestealer Cults. Both factions get a new Codex plus a new miniature to lead their forces.

Canoness With Jump Pack #1 - Warhammer 40000

The Canoness With Jump Pack leads the way. She has been a much sought-after miniature for the Adepta Sororitas, allowing you to lead your Zephyrim or Seraphim into battle. She can join these units and become part of an angelic host, descending on the battlefield to smite the enemies of The Emperor. She can also be armed with a variety of different weapons.

Canoness With Jump Pack #2 - Warhammer 40000

Her weapon options range from hand flamer and power weapon to a brutal blessed halberd or the eviscerator. You can suit your Canoness to the kind of unit she is going to be leading, either leaning into the ranged support theme or the brutal, close-quarters melee one.

She also comes with different head options. You can go for a hood (always go for a hood if you can), a respirator or free of accessories entirely. That means that if you want to make three different Canoness miniatures you can and have them all looking individual.

The new Canoness will be available as part of a new Battleforce initially (and then be released separately).

Army Of Faith Battleforce - Warhammer 40000

Army Of Faith Battleforce // Warhammer 40,000

The Army Of Faith comes with the new Canoness leading fifteen Seraphim or Zephyrim, backed up by the Exorcist tank. I don't really see this as a proper fighting force I must admit and I would see this as a way for someone who already collects Adepta Sororitas to bulk out their collection instead. I guess it depends on how much you like flying stands!

If you like the idea of playing Adepta Sororitas but you don't want to take the plunge with a new Battleforce, you can also get your hands on the new Combat Patrol as well.

The new Combat Patrol comes with five Celestian Sacresants and ten Arco-flagellants who make up the melee core of this force. Make sure your enemies are properly purged by getting up close and personal. They are backed up by a Canoness who can either lead the Celestians or the Battle Sisters of which you get ten.

Of course, all of this comes out alongside the new Codex: Adepta Sororitas which contains all of the updated rules for the faction in 10th Edition.

Inside you'll find four Detachments for you to dive into, allowing you to theme your force in different ways. There will also be new Crusade rules and more including rules for the above Combat Patrol and Datasheets for the various miniatures in the range.

New Genestealer Cults!

Not to be outdone, the Genestealer Cults are getting themselves a brand new hero (villain) as well to lead the way ahead of the Day Of Ascension. See what you make of the Benefictus.

Benefictus - Warhammer 40000

Benefictus // Warhammer 40,000

The Benefictus has a vastly swollen brain as you can see which allows them to send "beams of telekinetic force" across the battlefield. Apparently, they have the power of a lascannon meaning that the Benefictus can punch a hole in a tank if they see fit to do so. They can also send waves of fear and horror roiling through nearby enemies using their telepathic abilities.

I think the Benefictus is bloody brilliant and a great addition to an already characterful army in Warhammer 40,000. Genestealer Cults require a bit of finesse to use on the tabletop but if you can get it right, you can really feel the theme of the army coming through. This new character seems to build on that nicely.

The Benefictus' first outing will be as part of a new Battleforce once again, the Biosantic Broodsurge.

This set comes with the Benefictus alongside ten Neophyte Hybrids, a Goliath Rockgrinder, ten Purestrain Genestealers an Abominant and five Abberants. So, a decent mix of miniatures for those looking to bulk out a collection or perhaps get started. I think this works a lot better as a beginning when compared to the Adepta Sororitas offering.

I'm still not a massive fan of Games Workshop locking these characters behind these Battleforce sets during the initial release of the new Codexes. They didn't do this for the Necrons earlier in the year and it feels like a sad trend. The new characters are available separately eventually but it's a bit much to expect a collector of these armies to shell out for miniatures they probably don't need just to get a new character.

Anyway, on the Combat Patrol front, the Genestealer Cults are also getting a new Combat Patrol.

New Genestealer Cults Combat Patrol // Warhammer 40,000

This set feels like a significant downgrade compared to the last Combat Patrol and doesn't seem like it matches up well with the theme behind the Genestealer Cults as this hidden force waiting to ambush. It comes with five Atalan Jackals alongside the Wolfquad and two units of five Hybrid Metamorphs. There is also an Achilles Rockrunner to finish off the set. All of this is led by the Jackal Alpha. If you're a fan of the Genestealer Cults, let me know if I'm right when it comes to this Combat Patrol or if it's better than I think.

There is also a new Codex for the Genestealer Cults which contains everything that you'd expect as you move into the new edition with this faction.

I am happy to hear that the set comes with five Detachments, each with its own theme and some that flow nicely into the idea of them sneaking their way inside the inner workings of the Imperium, ready to overthrow planetary governments and military establishments at a moment's notice.

Both of these new Codexes and all of the relevant miniatures are going to be coming to Warhammer 40,000 later this Summer.

Let us know what you think of these new reveals for Warhammer 40,000
