Games Workshop has been showing off the new Combat Patrols that are coming to Warhammer 40,000 with the Codexes for the Necrons and Adeptus Mechanicus. The Necron Combat Patrol should be familiar to folks but the new one for the Adeptus Mechanicus takes things in a different direction for your Grimdark Sci-Fi wargames.

Shop Warhammer 40,000 @ Store.OnTableTop

This was the Combat Patrol that got shown (and is available to play right now with rules HERE) at the start of 10th Edition. You get ten Necron Warriors, three Skorpekh Destroyers, a Canoptek Doomstalker and three Canoptek Scarab Swarms. They are all led by the Necron Overlord, Amonhotekh who will be asserting his dominance over the battlefield.

So, if you have the miniatures for this right now then you'll be able to play this Combat Patrol right now. If you don't, you'll soon be able to pick this up alongside the free PDF and get playing some Warhammer 40,000.

New Adeptus Mechanicus Combat Patrol

On the Adeptus Mechanicus side of things, you've got a revamped set called Purge Corps Deltic-9.

This set comes with a Tech-Priest Manipulus called Skand alongside ten Skitarii Vanguard, five Pteraxii Sterylizors and three Serberyrs Sulphurhounds. The rules for this Combat Patrol will be free to download closer to the release of the Combat Patrol so, once again, you can dive into the game with these miniatures and some PDFs at the ready.

The existing Combat Patrol, Maniple Verask-Alpha, will be vanishing as a boxed set BUT you will still be able to download the Combat Patrol for it. So, if you have the miniatures in your collection you'll be able to play not one but two different Adeptus Mechanicus Combat Patrols which is neat.

I was worried that new Combat Patrols would remove the old ones but I like that Games Workshop are keeping them around. This means that we might get the design team working on new rules without dedicated boxed sets in the future which could be fun.

Will you be picking up one of these Combat Patrols?
