New Mechanicus Troops & Codex Spotted For Warhammer 40,000
March 31, 2015 by brennon
Hot on the heels of the Adeptus Mechanicus pre-orders from last week we have a sneaky look at what's coming out for them to pre-order this Friday thanks to another set of images popping up on the internet from Games Workshop. Warhammer 40,000 is getting very exciting!
In the same style as the Skitarii Rangers which you can see above the Adeptus Mechanicus are getting some more combat focused soldiers in the form of the Skitarii Infiltrators and Ruststalkers. Just like their Ranger counterparts these are practically all mechanical in design and they look like some of the best miniatures Games Workshop have put out in a long while.
Both the Infiltrators and the Ruststalkers look like superb creations of Steampunk origin that have found their way into the grim dark future. The mix of the dark metal alongside the red robes and glowing blue power packs/plasma weapons make them amazing additions to an already great looking army.
Reading Time!
As well as the models there's also the Codex which you can see on the link at the top of the page. This gives you a look at the Limited Edition version of Codex: Skitarii which comes in a neat slipcase, as is usually the way, alongside some neat additional extras that appear to be objective markers and more.
Have you been won over by the Adeptus Mechanicus?

I like the heads, torsos and arms – especially the extra arms and teh servo skulls, but the legs don’t appeal to me on these, id personally prefer to mount them on snake-like bodies made of cables or robotic spider legs.
Wait, have I just given myself a new conversion project?
seem like nice additions to the new range 😉
… personally I like the legs, makes them feel more fast and sneaky 😉
I rather like the Sicarian Infilitartors and Ruststalkers. While I have no real clue what the German text is saying, the unit design looks suitably weird and disturbing in a fashion appropriate for an Admech unit, with so much cybernectic modification there can’t be much more than a bag of organs somewhere in there left over from the original trooper. The weapon and equipment design is also very nice, keeping the steampunk stylings and fusion of archaic detailing with high tech componenets seen in the Ranger and Vanguard kit. The bifurcated ‘tuning fork’ swords weilded b the techno-ninja-esque Ruststalkers are… Read more »
I also like the legs @motioninpoetry, but that said, spider legged versions of these units would be seriously epic as well.
I would love to see that conversion if you wouldn’t mind posting up pics when it is done @abstractalien.
I am obviously in a minority I think they are objectively terrible, they look like a reject from cheap sci-fi and no real link with the previous art and style (I personally did not like the walker but at least it fit the aesthetic to a degree)
The background and novels have a wide range of fantastic concepts that could be transferred to the table and they instead release these. Forgeworld have been demonstrating how to do mechanicum right.
To avoid the entirely negative i like the paint effect on the swords.
Tanith First-and-Only Codex? Hmmm…
I’m with you @dags . I get a ’70s schlock sci-fi comic vibe. So much latitude for creativity, in terms of form… yet so little occurred.
…but at least they all have cattle prods, and not the primitive tasers we use that shoot darts.
Forgeworld is demonstrating how to do Cybernetica right. Some of us dont like Cybernetica. Im glad the GW codex has a more Myrmidiae feel, even if I do wish it was more Cataphractoi (i love heavy tanks). Id have been really upset if all the official admech armies were from one faction, and a borderline heretical one at that. It would be like if the only Space Marines you could run were Blood Ravens.
I really dislike the wood parts in the weapons that make them looks like steampunk weapons or high-tech mausers… I know it helps in breaking the 100% metal look but i would rather go for plastic or other kind of weird material rather than an organic element.
Aside of that i really like them and some of the new ones that appeared today look amazing.
You’re not the only person who has said they don’t like the wood bits. Maybe I’m blind but I don’t see any wood on the weapons. I see silver, black and gold filigree. Sure they look like old muskets and flintlock weapons in design but I think that makes them look cool. Old style weapons in new materials (and they fire radioactive bullets!!).
The walkers are growing on me but man I love the infantry models, my bank account is going to be getting a right spanking soon. Wonder if there will be rules to allow my FW Mechanicum to be used?
AM V’s Necrons…. ‘friendly fire’ incidents through the roof!
It’s the future: IFF transponders for everyone!
I dont like them at all. No Not !
such an expensive weekend hahaha
These models are the first that have really made me think about buying some Warhammer stuff. I don’t like the space marines, etc. I find them really boring. These are different and perhaps it is the throw back look that others don’t like that I like.
I find those to be just okay.
Tell you why they look wrong, no heroic pose on rock. Looks like Its rock pose conversion time for these babies.
Foot-on-can would be the sci-fi equivalent 🙂 .
Canned rock, could be a big money maker. Dam just looked it up, GW already own the IP on cans and rocks.
lol. Hmm… Are there any variations of canned rock not covered by a patent or IP? A loophole like canned kimberlite or feldspar? 🙂
Or rock cakes for a baked desert environment.
Initially I wasn’t as excited by these as I was by the last lot, but having taken a closer look there’s a huge number of interesting bits here for my own Mechanicum conversions. That servo skull is fabulous. Definately getting a box of these chaps to stock up my bits box.
Don’t disagree but I don’t think premier bits supplier is a route forward for them
Must admit, I really like them! Something totally different to paint up! 🙂
I think these infiltrators are different enough from the other skitari BUT need a more distinctive paint job to excentuate this. I wouldn’t use the cape-hood build. Also, loose the red and perhaps get a black/carbon fibre type scheme. More assasin like.
I also like the uber weird tendril look FW do but I think perhaps they are saving that vibe for 30k and/or the Dark Mechanicus.
At a guess, the cape-hood build, is the alpha (or commander) of the group. The paint job I’m not going to worry about too much because its designed so as to not intimidate new painters, in addition to the pictures being blurry to begin with.
I vastly prefer the Ruststalker heads vs the Infiltrators (the latter heads really don’t work for me).
I think the Infiltrators/Ruststalkers are the best so far from this new faction of GW’s, got some ideas already for the “Smash” heads.
Spot on @jay188 wondering what they reminded me of 🙂
I’m sold on the rangers and would love to mix in some Vostroyvan allies. All in all I would like to go and buy these next weekend. Good job GW.
These are cool.
But I’ll not be purchasing them direct from GW any time soon. Your £47 bundle costs the the equivalent of £67 in Australia. Or to put it another way GW’S geo-pricing strikes again.
I like them. First GW minis I would consider buying since god knows when.
I am really digging these new models…. This confirms, for me, that my pre-order of the first minis offered was on point!!!!!
Can’t hardly wait for everything Adeptus Mechanicus to be revealed!!!!
…..Did I say I can’t hardly wait…. 🙂
first they peel them with their steely knives
