Mash Up Chess & Warhammer 40,000 In Regicide
May 14, 2014 by brennon
So in the latest iteration of Warhammer 40,000 in digital form we have Warhammer 40,000 Chess: Regicide. See what you think of the teaser trailer for the game above...
The game is set to feature single and multiplayer variants, and apparently a whole host of incredibly detailed and challenging 'missions' made using the tactics and techniques of grand masters. You'll also be playing as the valiant Blood Angels in the main campaign in a story written by Black Library author Ross Watson.
According to a few other websites there will be a myriad of factions available past the Blood Angels and Orks and should stay true to the vision of Warhammer 40,000. I think time will tell on this game but the spiel right now is pretty much on the money.
In the end you can't really go to wrong with chess, and giving it a bad ass veneer of grim dark alongside a few tweaks and changes might make for a pretty interesting game.
What do you think?

Cool little cut scene there .. wonder why no one has made a rogue trader / inquisitor rpg yet. Fallout style with tb and rt gameplay. Just saying cause there are a lot of weird 40k games popping up lately.

These guys are making an Eisenhorn game – although how good it’s going to be I don’t know. Seems to be following a much younger version that we’re used to.
I’m not into chess, but the idea of an Eisenhorn game got me all excited.
Hoping for a game in about the same style as shadowrun for this one
So its 40k digital chess with a hint of Loka?
Looks like it to me. Regicide is often mentioned in the Black Library stories, especially the Thorn and Talon short story series. They say it is a game that is possibly the same or a variant of Chess, popular in the Imperium. It looks like it could be interesting. Not tried LOKA yet, it looks good. Perhaps someone could let me know what they think of it as I don’t know whether to get LOKA or Shuuro. @brennon, I wouldn’t say you can’t go wrong with chess to Tom Vasel at the Dice Tower. You should see how he laid… Read more »
True enough – that was an exciting review haha
Is this just a revamp of Battlechess?
Breaking news! GW has just received a C&D letter from Chess LLP!
Wouldn’t mind seeing a tabletop version released if this is any good…
Seriously?? This is what they are licensing out?? What is this 1994 or something … ugh. Oh how the once mighty have fallen *face palm* …
Thing is, you know the are probably still going to make a buttload of money out of this, so financially its a win, they have already been paid by someone to just use the IP so they have just earned money without even spending any money. Clever buggers renting out their attractive IP, but how dare they…
is this a joke?
Why is GW p*ssing all over their IP? all of a sudden.
We should welcome any attempt to turn Warhammer 40k into a strategy game.
If only people had that attitude with the forthcoming 7th edition…
