The Majestic Amon & A Fat Blood Bowl Rat New From Forge World
July 8, 2017 by brennon
We've got two flavours of model for you today from Forge World. The first is quite serious and takes the form of Magistus Amon of the Thousand Sons.
With quite the storied history in the midst of the Horus Heresy Amon is quite the character...
"It was said of Amon that he had served as Magnus’ tutor once, before the coming of the Emperor to Prospero, though the student soon far outstripped the master.
If true then it is likely that he survived the conversion process to Legiones Astartes as an adult, perhaps aided by the Crimson King’s direct intervention, and emerged both as a potent warrior and powerful psyker. Most of his career beyond his public duties remained in shadow and it is believed that he was in fact master of his Legion’s intelligence gathering organisation.
Amon’s fate was to see him survive the Battle of Prospero an embittered and wounded figure, who became increasingly isolated from his one-time peers and master."
It's quite interesting seeing a bearded Thousand Son but it's a great look for the model and I love the pose, rushing forward into battle, still harnessing psychic power to tear his enemies asunder. A tip of the hat to the painter of this model who has worked on those tattoos across his scalp.
Fat Rats!
As well as Amon we have the somewhat silly Glart Smashrip for your Skaven teams in the Fantasy Football game of Blood Bowl.
"An impressively obese Smashrip attends the tryouts for the Warpfire Wanderers, but is laughed out of the line-up. His chances aren’t improved when he eats the team’s assistant coach to prove a point, but news travels fast, and it isn’t long before the Skavenblight Scramblers scout him out and offer him a place on their roster.
Eventually, after some unpleasantness including a lifetime ban for eating a referee (which was eventually overturned), he became a free agent, bombarded with offers..."
Whereas most of the time we see the Skaven as lithe and agile players it's cool for us to now be seeing an entirely different side to them with the monstrously obese Glart.
Rules for him can be found in Death Zone Season Two if you fancy including this particular creature in your roster for an added bit of crunch in your front line. He certainly won't be scoring many touchdowns.
What do you think of these new releases?

I’ve been unimpressed with most of the Blood Bowl minis, the Forge Word ones in particular. Not this fella though. HE IS BRILLIANT!
I broke my Horus Heresy character model duck with Magnus, so I’ll pick up the new lad as soon as I work up the courage to tackle his Primarch.
I like the pose. Not sure on the beard, as in the execution of the sculpt
Im not sure Im a fan of the Skaven guy but more power to whoever likes it. It brings diversity to Skaven I’ll say that much
Both look really good. I like how dynamic pose they gave Amon and how unique that Skaven looks compared to all other Skaven in BB.
This Skaven lad is the business. Much better in my opinion than the 3armed mutant star player. this boy is definately going to in my collection ….. I may even make an elf referee to feed him.
Amon looks good, like the detail work they have done to make him stand out. But apart from the facial sculpts, there’s only so much you can do with a space marine. Glart is great, he’s basically a skaven sumo wrestler.
Love them both, beard is a little odd on Amen but I think that is painting. The rat is just oozing character.
Finally, a SM with a beard. I love beards, even have one myself. Everyone should have a beard, except females that is.
