The Leviathan Pattern Dreadnought Stomps Out Of Forge World
November 13, 2015 by brennon
If you thought that the Contemptor Pattern Dreadnought was the best looking of the walkers for the Space Marines then maybe think again once you've seen the Leviathan Pattern Siege Dreadnought which is now available to order from Forge World...
This new pattern of Dreadnought does exactly what it says on the tin and that is to siege the enemy into oblivion with a huge frame and some very deadly weapons. You can see a few versions of the Leviathan here with different load-outs as the actual arms are sold separately from the main body.
"Towering over later Imperial walker patterns, this heavily armoured dreadnought is savagely powerful. It was designed for siege warfare and primarily armed with close combat and support weaponry that can rend buildings, vehicles and flesh alike; though it is no less effective when armed with the powerful and esoteric short ranged weaponry uniquely developed for it.
The Leviathan’s oversized reactor allows it to bear weapons more powerful than other classes of dreadnought, and also powers reinforced energy fields that surpass those developed for the Contemptor class."
This is a huge construct and very few of them have survived into the 41st Millennium. They were developed in secret on Terra during the latter days of the Great Crusade to help turn the tide although as you can see some of them have fallen to Chaos.
You can see the various weapon choices available to you HERE with my favourites being the Grav-Flux Bombard and the Leviathan Storm Cannon. I would just make this into a wrecking machine at range. To be fair though I imagine this is quite a beast in combat too.
I think this model rather deserves the name 'Dreadnought'.
What do you think?

Really cool looking model. I was tempted to pick up some Contemptors but I think I’ll skip right over them for this. Not a big fan of the way the head is positioned though. Maybe I’d feel different looking down at them on a table but at the moment the grill in the chest looks like it’s some sort of strange facial armour.
Sweet, like these a lot, although as with all FW stuff not sure if i “72 quid like it” though.
The guns seem to be ambidextrous, any one know if the siege weapons are?
As for the grill, kinda makes it look like a bane bot, almost begging to be nurgleified and have a nurgling grinning out from it, or leaking some foul discharge
Not bad at all. Wish that GW could make model designs like FW can.
Different markets, low yields and lack of pandering to little johnny’s ham fisted adventures with glue gives FW the ability to not compromise on the design
Its a beauty.
Just occurred to me, because its so wide and squatted down looking, its actually got a similar silhouette to the original dreadnoughts.
It’s Awesome ..it’s on pre-order …it will be mine all mine i tell you muhahaha .
Sorry just a little giddy for this one 🙂
What arms you having??
Gone for Storm cannon and Grav-flux bombard as think it looks the business that way but will magnetise the arms so I can change the loadout.
You buying DD ?
Probably!
Gimme now! Pair of Storm Cannons for me I think… At least for the first one.
….you got to like that people “First one” , well played lunchbox.
Awww yeah! That looks really good.
After I saw the leaked images and rules to these on faeit, I knew owning this was a foregone conclusion. Such a cool model, great rules and load out. Far superior to the boat chest dread they came out with a while back.
I think it’d look better with a larger head – if the chest armour was the ‘mouthpiece’ instead of a gorget I think it’d look less silly. Also, can anyone else see a cartoony face formed by the armour around the head? The two round things just above the head are eyes and the slot the head sits in is a mouth – if the helmet was left off it’d look like the dreadnought was making a D: face lol. Other than that I’d say it looks good 🙂
Must have. I love the Contemptor stuff but these are a beauty to behold.
That bloody thing has finally made my mind up on starting an Iron Hands legion to compliment my Mechanicum.
It’s a nice meld between the standard 30k dreadnought and the 40k one, you can now see how the box like body appeared and thicker legs.
I like.
DAMN YOU ForgeWorld!!! Damn You!
This so much better than a space marine within a space marine!
Definitely getting one of these as a sly xmas prezzie to myself. Only problem is that I’ve already blown the present from my wife as she’s funded my TY boot camp. Still I could always try the “what this love???? No……..I’ve had this for ages” line.
How do you manage to blag all of your horde @deaddave???
Man that is a dreadnought I can like love the twin storm cannons, but the siege version looks good as well.
*weeps* its beautiful
It’s beautiful,
but have to be a bit careful with weapon choices as the rules say the Bombard version (my fav) is Heresy only, no 40K rules… 🙁
Am I reading the rules right that this has str 16 close combat attacks (both ccw options state leviathan not dreadnought str x2- base strength 8 therefore str 16) or am I missing something blatantly obvious on this?!?
