Games Workshop are focusing on the launch of Leviathan and the 10th Edition of Warhammer 40,000 this weekend. With the launch box becoming available for folks to dive into, there are also a bunch of pre-orders for those that are eager to get more for this 28mm grimdark Sci-Fi wargame.

Leading the way is the new Core Book for Warhammer 40,000. This book comes with the core rules for the game plus rules for playing Combat Patrol games. You also get six missions to dive into and plenty of lore and artwork for you to submerge yourself in. If you already have Leviathan, there's no need to own this particular book but this comes in as the consistently available option for those who didn't want to pick up the launch box.

There is also a fancy Limited Edition version of the Core Book which comes with a slipcase, new cover and a fair few additional bits and pieces.

You get the Core Book, a limited edition Core Rules book in hardback, six objective markers, double-sided rules reference sheets and a selection of art prints. It's quite the fancy book and I could see having the separate core rules being quite handy at the tabletop. You'll probably want this if you didn't go for Leviathan and you are a lover of the grimdark who wants that special something on your bookcase. Just remember, all of the Core Rules are available online for free so you can give the game a go before you dive in.

As well as the Core Book, there is also both a standard and limited edition book for those looking to dive into the Crusade game mode in Warhammer 40,000.

This book covers ways for you to play out a more narrative take on Warhammer 40,000. You'll find new sets of Battle Traits, Crusade Relics, Crusade Blessings and Agends as well as new ways for you to theme things around the Tyrannic War and this particular lore moment within the story of Warhammer 40,000. Fans of Crusade are also going to be able to update their previous Crusade campaigns from 9th Edition with some free rules later this week.

Index Cards & Missions For Warhammer 40,000

As well as the new books for 10th Edition Warhammer 40,000, there are also some more physical accessories coming up for pre-order this weekend. If you're looking to set up a series of ever-changing missions then you'll want to get the Chapter Approved Mission Deck.

This is likely to be the way that most people play their games following the Matched Play format. You get five Deployment Cards, nine Primary Mission Cards and twelve Mission Rules Cards. You'll also get six cardboard objective tokens and rules for using the set. You can then mix things up with sixteen Attacker and Defender Secondary Mission Cards and a variety of Gambit Cards too. It should allow you to make quick and easy games with plenty of fluctuating objectives that tell different stories each time you sit down to play. I really like this and it's good to see this style of game porting over from 9th Edition.

You'll also be able to pick up the physical Index Cards for each of the different factions in Warhammer 40,000.

These will be handy for those that don't want to flick through their phones when cycling through different units that are taking part in the battle. These should be a thing forever in Warhammer 40,000. If you're looking to have a look at the different factions, all of the digital Index Cards are available online right now for FREE. So, you don't need these but they could be very handy. I will be picking these up for my Aeldari at the very least.

This is the prime time to get into Warhammer 40,000, especially if you've played in the past and have miniatures sitting around. Grab the free rules, free Index Cards and dive in and see if the game is for you. I would love Games Workshop to make the rules and unit profiles (and the points!) free even when Codexes drop but I doubt that's going to be the case.

Will you be diving into 10th Edition Warhammer 40,000?
